Getting a breath of fresh air on Texel Texel is the largest of the Dutch Wadden Islands: an island formed by the wind, the sea and the hands of man. The Dunes of Texel are a National Park. They are very exceptional and are a part of the network of European Natura 2000 regions. The National Park is an important link for migrating birds between their resting and foraging areas. In this region, adventurous paths run along damp dune valleys, variable woods, open heath fields and dune lakes. Naturally, there is a tremendous diversity in plants and animals. However most importantly, Texel is a bird paradise. Every spring and fall is a coming and going of migrating birds. And when the tidal flats flood, the dunes swarm full with waders, ducks and gulls.
