Bahasa Inggris 2013 MINGGU 4 Diskripsi singkat : Mahasiswa diingatkan dengan beberapa bentuk past tense mengingat mereka sudah pernah mendapatkan di SMP dan SMA, hanya sekedar mengingatkan. Juga dilatih membaca bacaan dari literatur teknik serta menterjemahkan, dan menterjemahkan dari bahasa Indonesia ke bahasa Inggris
Manfaat : Setelah mengikuti kuliah mahasiswa dapat : 1. Mahasiswa bisa lebih memahami beberapa bentuk past tenses dalam bahasa inggris. 2. Mahasiswa bisa membaca dengan pronounsation yang benar dan cepat 3. Mahasiswa bisa menterjemahkan bacaan bahasa Inggris dengan istilah
teknik 4. Mahasiswa dapat menterjemahkan dari bahasa Indonesia ke bahasa Inggris
Relevansi : Bab ini memperkenalkan mengenai beberapa bentuk past tenses dalam bahasa inggris. Dan memperlancar membaca juga melatih menerjemahkan, serta latihan
menterjemahkan dari bahasa Indonesia ke bahasa Inggris. .
Learning Outcome Mahasiswa mampu menerangkan beberapa bentuk past tenses dalam bahasa inggris. Dan bisa membaca dengan pronounsation yang benar serta mampu
menerjemahkan dengan baik.

Bahasa Inggris 2013 PAST PERFECT ( I HAD DONE ) a) We form the past perfect with had + the past participle (gone/opened/written, etc). We use the past perfect to say that something had already happened before this time. - When I arrived at the party, Tom had already gone home - When I got home, I found that someone had broken into my flat and had stolen my coat. - George didn’t want to come to the cinema with us because he had already seen the film twice. - It was my first time in an aeroplane. I was very nervous because I hadn’t flown before. b) The past perfect (I had done) is the past of the present perfect (I have done). Compare these situation : Present I’m not hungry. I’ve just had lunch The house is dirty. We haven’t cleaned cleaned it It for weeks.
Past I wasn’t hungry. I’d just had lunch The house was dirty. We hadn’t for weeks.
c) Compare the past perfect (I had done) and the past simple (I did) : - Was Tom there when you arrived ? No, he had already gone home Was Tom there when you arrived ? Yes, but he went home soon afterwards. - Ann wasn’t in when I phoned her. She was in London Ann had just got home when I phoned her. She had been in London I. PAST PERFECT CONTINUOUS ( I HAD BEEN DOING ) a) Example : - it wasn’t raining when I looked out of the window the sun was shining. But it had been raining. That’s why the ground was wet. - When the boys came into the house, their clothes were dirty their hair was untidy and one had a black eye. They had been fighting. - I was very tired when I arrived home. I’d been working hard all day. b) We can use the p.p.c. to say how long something had been happening before something else happened : - the football match had to be stopped. They had been playing for half an hour when there was a terrible storm - Ken had been smoking for 30 years when he finally gave it up c) The p.p.c. (I had been doing) is the past of the present perfect continuous (I have been doing). Compare : Present Past - How long have you been waiting ? How long had you been waiting when (until now) the bus finally came ? - He’s out of breath. He has been running. He was out of breath. He had been running. Exercises : I.
