A földtudomány valóban historia naturalis, azaz természettörténet. E történeti megállapítások rendszerében azonban nemcsak az élőlények, hanem a Föld élettelen anyagának története is benne van, a hegységek lepusztulásától és az üledékek lerakódásától egészen a kontinensek vándorlásáig. Helyesebb lenne tehát nem evolúcióról, hanem földtörténetről4 beszélni. Idős vagy fiatal-e a Föld? A földtörténeti jelenségek nagy része lassú, év-százezreket, sőt évmilliókat igénybevevő folyamat.
Az egyes élőlények megjelenésének sorrendje, földrajzi elterjedése a földkerekségen, a mindehhez szükséges idő ehhez a külső formához tartozik, amit bizonyos fajta képes beszédként jellemezhetünk.
A Hegyi Beszédben előforduló természeti képek is mind mint Isten közvetlen munkája állnak előttünk: „Az égi madarakat… a ti mennyei Atyátok eltartja” (Máté 6,26). … Nincs kisiklás, nincs perverzitás, mert ők beleilleszkedtek a teremtő Isten rendjébe.” Valóban minden Isten akarata a természetben? Látva a szép rendet a természetben, feltehetjük a kérdést: vajon nincs-e mégis kivétel ez alól, olyan eset, amikor mégsem Isten akarata teljesül?
A „magától” termő gabona, amiből a mindennapi kenyér lesz, Isten ajándéka. Ezért is tanított Jézus érte imádkozni (Máté 6,11).
A 17. A teremtéskor „ami látható, a láthatatlanból állt elő” (Zsid. 11,3). Az események mögött nemcsak időbeli, hanem logikai értelemben is „kezdetben” (I. Móz. 1,1) a teremtő Isten áll16.
Összefoglalásképpen ennek utolsó néhány sorát idézzük: „Akkor – magától – szűnik a vihar, Akkor – magától – minden elcsitul, Akkor – magától –éled a remény. Álomfáidnak minden aranyágán Csak úgy magától – friss gyümölcs terem. Ez a magától: ez a kegyelem”. Jegyzetek: 1
