ABSTRACT Biasanya novel menceritakan tentang kehidupan manusia. Memoirs of a Geisha adalah salah satu novel yang ditulis oleh Arthur Golden pada 1997. Novel ini adalah salah satu novel terlaris dan telah diterjemahkan ke dalam 32 bahasa. Novel ini juga di angkat ke dalam film yang di sutradarai oleh Rob Marshall dengan judul yang sama pada 2005. Tesis ini menganalisis tokoh utama dalam novel Arthur Golden, Memoirs of a Geisha. Tokoh utama dalam novel ini mengarah pada orang secara individu maupun kelompok yang mana membawa jalan cerita dari awal sampai akhir. Oleh karena itu, analisis karakter berhubungan dengan kualitas studi seseorang sebagai individu dan sosial. Fokus dari analisis ini ditujukan pada geisha yang berjuang hidup dengan mengandalkan keberadaannya sebagai perempuan. Geisha di anggap negative dalam kehidupan masyarakat karena menjadi korban dari pria.
