WOORD VOORAF Eigenzinnig specialist en exclusief importeur van de mooiste wijnen uit de Nieuwe Wereld, dat is wat we zijn. Die eigenzinnigheid spreekt voor zich. Wat heb je als importeur immers te vertellen als je geen uitgesproken ideeën hebt over wat wel de moeite waard is en wat niet? Dat veronderstelt in onze ogen dat je weet waarover je praat: eerst kennis van zaken, dan de ideeën. Vandaar dat we specialist zijn en geen generalist. In plaats van een klein beetje van alles weten we heel veel van een klein beetje en zo hebben we echt iets te vertellen. Ons specialisme ligt in de Nieuwe Wereld, dat doet onze naam al vermoeden. Het is hier dat de behoefte aan diepgewortelde kennis het grootst is. Specialisten in wijnen uit de Oude Wereld zijn er voldoende, maar hoeveel mensen zijn er nu die echt iets te vertellen hebben over bijvoorbeeld de Australische wijnwereld anno 2011? Die kennis hebben van de historische wortels, de regionale tradities, de belangrijkste wijnstijlen en de voornaamste ontwikkelingen? Je hebt ze nodig, niet alleen om bijzondere wijnen van een context te voorzien, maar ook als tegenwicht tegen alle dooddoeners die je ook onder professionals nog steeds over de Nieuwe Wereld hoort verkondigen. Ons assortiment bestrijkt niet alle landen die tot de Nieuwe Wereld worden gerekend. Australië staat centraal, simpelweg omdat het volgens ons het meest gevarieerde, interessante en kwalitatief hoogwaardige wijnland binnen de Nieuwe Wereld is. Het beste uit Australië is van wereldklasse. Dat geldt ook voor Nieuw-Zeeland, zij het vooralsnog in iets bescheidener mate. De wijncultuur is er jonger en de verscheidenheid aan wijnstijlen beperkter, maar de belofte die dit wijnland in zich draagt mag met recht grenzeloos heten. De toevoeging aan ons assortiment van Greywacke, het fantastische nieuwe domein van Kevin Judd, getuigt hiervan. Tot slot presenteren we in deze catalogus onze eerste wijnen uit Chili en Argentinië, twee wijnlanden die in rap tempo volwassen worden en waar we derhalve niet langer omheen kunnen. In het hierna volgende overzicht van al onze domeinen en wijnen doen we er zelf het zwijgen toe en laten we internationaal erkende wijnschrijvers aan het woord. Dat doen we echter niet zonder zelf alvast de stelling te verkondigen dat ons assortiment, binnen het specialisme dat we beoefenen, in termen van diversiteit, karakter en pure kwaliteit misschien wel het beste en mooiste is van de Benelux. Kijk, daar ben je nu eigenzinnig en begeesterd specialist voor.

“Liqueur Muscat and Liqueur Tokay are two of Australia’s great gifts to the world: sumptuously hedonistic dark, sweet liquids that taste something like a cross between madeira and Málaga. They are made from, respectively, a very darkskinned strain of Muscat blanc à petits grains called here Brown Muscat, and muscadelle, traditionally known as Tokay in Australia. The centre of production is a hot north western corner of the state of Victoria around the towns of Rutherglen and Glenrowan. Grapes are semi-raisined on the vine, partially fermented, and then fortified with grape spirit before being subjected to an unusual wood-ageing programme that resembles a cross between a sherry solera and a Madeira estufagem. The results can be uncannily fine quality, are bottled when they are ready to drink, and do not change with bottle age. These wines are quite sweet enough to serve with virtually any dessert. In the late 1990s, the wine-makers of Rutherglen joined forces to create a four-tier nomenclature for Muscat (and, by extension, Tokay). At the bottom is Rutherglen Muscat; next is Classic; then Grand; and finally Rare. It is an original block near the winery, which was replanted to Mendoza Clone Chardonnay in 1990. This wine is made similarly to the other two single vineyard wines except that it gets a bit more new oak. The 2008 Mate’s Vineyard Chardonnay begins with butterscotch, toast and apricot kernel notes, leading to fragrant aromas of orange blossom, honeysuckle, coriander seed and warm Golden Delicious apple slices. The palate is very tightknit with great tension, wonderfully crisp and pure acid, and a creamy richness that lingers on and on in the mouth. The grapes are grown organically and hand-picked at different stages of ripening, culminating in some years in a final harvest of botrytis-affected fruit. Fermentation is in tanks and large, 620-litre French oak casks, used in the Loire for Chenin Blanc. Still a baby, the 2009 vintage is very fresh, crisp and lively, with no sign of botrytis at this stage. Racy, with a basically dry impression on the palate (7 grams/litre of residual sugar), and a very subtle oak influence, it is minerally and lingering.” (Michael Cooper, 4/5)

VERKOOPVOORWAARDEN Alle vermelde prijzen zijn per fles in euro en inclusief BTW. De inhoud van een fles is 0,75 liter, tenzij anders aangegeven. Bestellen is mogelijk per verpakkingseenheid van 6 of 12 flessen (zie vermelding per wijn). Voor de levering van onze wijnen maken we gebruik van de diensten van Verhoeven Wijn Distributie Centrum te Tilburg, een betrouwbare partner gespecialiseerd in de opslag en distributie van wijn. Afhankelijk van de regio vindt levering plaats op twee, drie of vier werkdagen per week. Levering geschiedt franco aan huis bij een bestelling ter waarde van tenminste € 200,00 inclusief BTW. Bij kleinere bestellingen is een bijdrage in de vrachtkosten verschuldigd van €15,00 inclusief BTW. Op al onze transacties zijn de Algemene Voorwaarden van de Koninklijke Vereniging van Nederlandse Wijnhandelaren van toepassing. Deze zijn gedeponeerd ter griffie van de arrondissementsrechtbank te Amsterdam onder nummer 44/2008. Een exemplaar van de voorwaarden wordt desgevraagd toegezonden. Geleverde wijnen blijven eigendom van New World Wineries totdat het volledige factuurbedrag is voldaan. Deze gids vervangt alle voorgaande edities.
