BETREFT: Prospectieve studie “hospitalisatie wegens varicella” in België

Geachte Collega, Hierbij wensen wij u mee te delen dat de surveillance van varicella aan het surveillancesysteem PediSurv is toegevoegd. In België is de veralgemeende vaccinatie tegen varicella nog niet aanbevolen en er bestaan nog maar weinig gegevens over de impact van deze ziekte. Het Federaal Kenniscentrum voor de Gezondheidszorg (KCE) heeft onlangs gegevens gepubliceerd over het aantal opnamen voor varicella en infecties met Herpes Zoster (1) maar deze gegevens, gebaseerd op de Minimale Klinische Gegevens van de ziekenhuizen in België, volstaan niet om de daadwerkelijke impact van varicella in ons land in te schatten. Deze surveillance houdt een prospectieve opvolging in “Hospitalization for Varicella in Belgium”. Het is de bedoeling om de impact van de ziekte vanuit epidemiologisch standpunt te evalueren en hierbij extra aandacht te schenken aan de ernstige gevallen waarvoor opname nodig is en, meer bepaald op de dienst intensieve zorgen. De methodologie is de volgende: -

De bestudeerde populatie bestaat alle nieuwe gevallen van varicella bij kinderen jonger dan 16 jaar die ten minste 24 uur op een pediatrische dienst zijn opgenomen. De diagnose van varicella is gebaseerd op de klinische presentatie.

De gegevens worden via het surveillancesysteem PediSurv verzameld. Zoals voor de andere aandoeningen krijgt u de gelegenheid om bij elke melding een vragenlijst in te vullen via de website http://www.wiv-isp/pedisurv of die u met de post kan opsturen (zie bijlage 1).

Als u geen tijd heeft om de vragenlijst in te vullen, verzoeken wij u vriendelijk om de gevallen aan te geven op een logsheet die u van ons krijgt (bijlage 2) of aan te vullen op de website van PediSurv (“korte versie”), zodat de incidentie voor de totale pediatrische bevolking kan worden berekend.

Aangezien deze studie louter observationeel is, is er geen geïnformeerde toestemming vereist en worden de gegevens zoals gewoonlijk anoniem gemaakt. De studie begint op 01/11/2011 en eindigt op 30/10/2012. De dienst Infectieuze Ziekten van het Universitair Kinderziekenhuis Koningin Fabiola (UKZKF) staat in voor de coördinatie van deze studie.
