Het doel van PPM is: het selecteren en prioriteren van die projecten en programma’s die optimaal bijdragen aan de bedrijfsstrategie gebaseerd op de beschikbare resource in de organisatie. Daarbij moet de portfolio geoptimaliseerd blijven onder invloed van veranderingen in de organisatie en projecten

Doel is schaarse resources (€ en FTE) daar inzetten waar het effect het grootst is zoals verlagen risico’s, betrouwbare installaties, omgeving, rendement etc. Dit door te adviseren over prioriteiten in het projecten programma in relatie tot de operationele doelstellingen en strategie. Hiervoor is nodig: 1.In een vroeg stadium goede business cases 2.Transparant processen van prioriteitstelling (phase-gates) 3.Heldere overzichten van lopende en toekomstige projecten (database), en goede management rapporteringen
