2008. szeptember
ARMENIA-GEORGIA-HUNGARY-SPAIN „BETTER TO BUILD BRIDGES THAN TO BREAK WALLS”
BEKÖSZÖNTŐ Nemzetközi ifjúsági csere JEREVÁN Örményország Szeptember 20-29
Hogyan lehet hidat építeni két fal között? Azért vagyunk itt Jerevánban Magyarországot, Grúziát, Spanyolországot és Örményországot képviselve, hogy válaszoljunk erre a kérdésre. A fal az előítélet a másik kultúrával szemben.Ebben az ifjúsági cserében megláttuk mi rejtőzik a fal mögött... és átmentünk a falakon; a séták, beszélgetések, táncok, éneklések, szórakozások, és álmodások hídján...

GREETINGS International Youth Exchange
How to build a bridge between two walls? We are here, in Yerevan, coming from Hungary, Georgia, Spain and Armenia to answer this question.
YEREVAN
The wall is the prejudice towards other cultures. In this exchange we could see what is hiding behind the walls... and we crossed the walls; through a bridge of walking, talking, dancing, singing, having good time, dreaming...ALL TOGETHER!!
ARMENIA 20-29 September
We want to say “ thanks”to everybody for this exchange...because each of them with their stones has constructed a bridge of dialogue.

MŰHELYMUNKÁK
A spanyol fiatalok problémái a gazdasági nehézségekre vezethetők vissza. Egyre nehezebben tudják megszerezni a tanulmányaikhoz szükséges pénzt, kevés a diák munkalehetőség, sokan mennek Ebben a m űh e l y b e n a külföldre dolgozni.
Magyarország EU-hoz való csatlakozása sokat javított a fiatalok lehetőségein. Számos területen kapnak támogatást, többek között utazás és tanulás céljából jól működő pályázati rendszerek segítségével. A szabad utazás az EU országain belül lehetőség a külföldi egyetemeken való tanulásra. Sokkal könnyebbé vált a külföldi munkavállalás is.
Opportunities and Difficulties for theYoung In this workshop we discussed our opportunities and difficulties. The Georgian group consisted of Armenian young people who belong to the Armenian minority in Georgia, and they pointed out those difficulties that are due to belonging to a minority. Armenians and Georgians have been living together for centuries, they maintain their folk traditions, customs, and they strive to communicate effectively. Nevertheless, their living together is not without problems. In Georgia the Armenian minority is subject to discrimination, due to their nationality they do not find jobs. (There are territories where the population is 70% Armenian but only their 10% find job) The Georgian government wants to assimilate the Armenians. The problems of the Spanish young people can be traced back to the economic difficulties of the country. It is more and more difficult for them to find the money for financing their studies, there is little possibility for
part-time jobs, many of them go to work abroad. It is difficult for them to get independent from their parents. They cannot see a perspective in their own country. What gives them some confidence is that there are organizations that help them financing their studies at home or abroad, the good students receive grants, and also the young now have opportunities to travel abroad, to learn languages and get to know other cultures. Such opportunities are the Erasmus and the Youth Programme of the EU. Hungary’ s accession to the EU has improved the opportunities for the young people. They get supports in
various fields, among them well functioning subvention or grant systems promote their travelling and studies. The free movement within the EU countries is a possibility for studying at foreign universities. Working abroad has also become easier. In spite of this the majority of young people still cannot afford travelling due to the financial situation of their families. It is difficult to find work in the country. There is over-training in several fields (arts, law, economy) and the working young people are overloaded in their workplaces.

Minority Majority Problems In the workshops we talked about minority majority problems. All the 4 participating countries have minorities living beyond and within their borders but the problems and the ways of their solution are different. We have found that the countries in the EU have better opportunities to solve these problems. Nevertheless, we think that this problem never can be solved. Georgia, Armenia, Hungary and Spain have common problems like discrimination and racism. For example, most of the minorities cannot study in their own language, but there are exceptions, because in Hungary and in Spain we can find primary and secon d ar y s ch ool s w h ere t h e
minorities can learn in their mother tongue. On the other hand it is difficult to find a job if you cannot speak the language of the country perfectly. Th is leads to the assimilation of the minorities into the majority society. In our opinion everybody has the same right whether they live in their native country or beyond its borders. Fortunately there are tendencies to make the minorities’life easier, like
the Shengen treaty which makes the borders disappear and let people move freely in Europe and helps to reunite the formerly cut off nations. We believe in a better future when it will not be important whether we belong to a majority or to a minority.

KULTURÁLIS LÁTOGATÁSOK LUSAKERT A hely, ahol a különleges örmény kenyeret, a lavash-t sütik.
A SZEVÁN TÓ Örményország legnagyobb tava, a világ egyik legnagyobb hegyi tava. Az örmények kedvelt nyaraló helye. A tó mellett az egyik hegy tetején az örmény egyház egyik ősi temploma a X. századból. A templom körül mindenfelé khachkár, faragott kereszt-kövek” , az örmények ikonszerűkeresztény szimbóluma. HAGHARTSIN
Csendes hely. Csak a természet hangja töri meg a csendet: a folyó, a madarak, a szél…. Egy kis paradicsom Örményország mélyén. Kis zsebkendők felkötve a fákra, mind egy-egy beteljesülésre váró kívánság GARNI Garniban egy görög pogány templomot találunk a hegy tetején, az 1960-as években restaurálták. A táj lenyűgöző. Geometrikus kövek, mintha a természet falat akart volna építeni a völgyben.
Játszottunk a múzeumban, nehogy unalmas legyen. A régi, 1001 templomos Ani városától napjainkig. Egy kis tanulmányi kirándulás Örményországban.

CULTURAL VISITS LUSAKERT The place of “ Lavash”a special Armenian bread. Going to Sevan we stopped in a little town famous for its traditional bread. It is situated close to a river, in a dry plateau criss-crossed by valleys. The bread is still made by hand and baked in a tonir, a special oven under the earth. LAKE SEVAN It’ s the biggest lake of Armenia, one of the highest of the world. Armenian people like it as holiday place. Next to the lake, on top of a hill an ancient monastery of the Armenian church (915-921 A.D.). Around the church a lot of “ khachkar” , an iconic Christian symbol of the Armenians. HAGHARTSIN After leaving Sevan we continue the trip up to the mountains of Dilijan. Surprisingly we find warm valleys covered by forests. Among the trees is hiding the Haghartsin monastery. It’ s a peaceful place. You can hear nature breaking the silence: the river, the birds, the winds... a little paradise in the depth of Armenia. Small handkerchiefs tied on the twigs of trees all of them representing a wish waiting to be fulfilled. GARNI In Garni we find a Hellenistic pagan temple on the top of the hill, restored in the 1960s. The landscape is spectacular. Close to the temple more archeological ruins: a wall, a church, cuneiform texts ... We go down to the River Azat through a nut tree forest. Geometrical stones, as if nature desired to build the walls of the valley. GEGHARD Keeping on the mountains we go to Geghard. You walk up from the bus to the entrance and find a square. Around the square: churches, chapels and other buildings still used by the monks. Full of “ khachkars” . Some of the churches carved into the rocks. Holes cut into the rocks. Dark churches smelling of candles. Empty rooms decorated with khachkars.
NATIONAL MUSEUM OF HISTORY We played a game in the museum. Don't be bored. Take your plan and find the answers. Swim in Armenian History. Art and past, maps and handcrafts, weapons and dresses, jewelry and khachkar. From the ancient times of the 1001 churches of Ani to the present. A little trip to learn some things about Armenia.

A kereszténység megerősödött, amikor Szent Mesrob Mashtots tudós szerzetes teológus örmény nyelvre fordította a Bibliát.
A Grúziában élősokféle nép mindig is sokféle aktív vallást jelentett. Ma a grúziai lakosság többsége ortodox keresztény, elsősorban a Grúz Ortodox Egyházhoz tartozik (82%).

"Do not be afraid; for see - I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people..." (Luke 2.10)
The Armenian Apostolic Church is the world's oldest national church, one of the most ancient Christian communities. The Kingdom of Armenia was the first state to adopt Christianity as its religion when St. Gregory the Illuminator converted King Tiridates III and members of his court in 301 A.D Christianity was strengthened in Armenia by the translation of the Bible into the Armenian language by the Armenian theologian, monk and scholar St Mesrob Mashtots. Until the fifth century, Armenia had its own spoken language, but not written. The Bible and liturgy were in Greek. The Armenian Apostolic Church is the central religious authority for Armenian Orthodox population in the Republic of Armenia as well as for Armenian Orthodox communities worldwide. It is headed by the Catholicos. He is the supreme judge and the head of the legislative body and it is seated in Etchmiadzin. The Armenian Apostolic Church is one of a few apostolic churches in the world to have a democratic system; the people decide if they want to keep priests in their churches and may ask for different ones. The Armenian Apostolic Church should not be confused with the Armenian Catholic Church, which is an Eastern Catholic Church in communion with the Holy See in Rome.
The wide variety of peoples inhabiting Georgia has meant a correspondingly rich array of active religions. Today most of the population in Georgia practices Orthodox Christianity, primarily the Georgian Orthodox Church (82%). Around 2% follow the Russian Orthodox Church. Around 3.9% of the population follow the Armenian Church, almost all of which are ethnic Armenians. Muslims make up 9.9% of the population, and are mainly found in the Adjara and Kyemo Kardi regions and as a sizeable minority in Tbilisi. There is also a sizeable Jewish Community in Tbilisi served by two synagogues. Georgia has a long history of religious harmony within its borders despite the historical conflicts with the surrounding nations. Different religious minorities have lived in Georgia for thousands of years and religious discrimination is virtually unknown in the country. The Georgian Orthodox Church is one of the world's most ancient Christian Churches, and tradition traces its origins to the mission of Apostle Andrew in the 1st century. It has been a a state religion in parts of Georgia since the 4th century.

Spanyolországban a legelterjedtebb vallás a római katolikus.
A Református Egyház a számokat tekintve a második legnagyobb felekezet Magyarországon. A világon regisztrált magyar reformátusok száma jelenleg 3,5 millió.
Roman Catholicism is the largest religion in Spain. According to several sources (Spanish official polls and others), about 76% self-identify as Catholics, and about 19% identify with no religion. Many Spaniards do not participate regularly in religious services. During the last decade, the involvement of the Catholic Church in politic affairs, through special groups such as Opus Dei or the Legion of Christ, especially personated through important politicians in the Partido Popular, has been recovered. Old and new media, which are property of the Church, such as the COPE radio station, have also contributed to this new involvement in politics. The Church is no longer seen as a neutral and independent institution in political affairs and it is generally aligned with the opinion and politics of the Partido Popular.
The Reformed Church is, in terms of numbers, the largest denomination in Hungary, after the Roman Catholic Church. Reformed believers amount to about 21% of the Hungarian population. They have 1402 church buildings. The Calvinist trend of the Reformation in Hungary adopted two confessions at Debrecen in 1567: the Heidelberg Catechism, and the Second Helvetian Confession. The existence of the Reformed Church in Hungary dates from this Debrecen Synod of 1567. Among the Presbyterian churches it is the only one that has had, and still has, bishops in additions to general curators (lay presidents) at the head of Church Districts. At present the registered number of Reformed Hungarians world-wide is about three and a half million. Of these, some two million live in Hungary. In consequence of the dismemberment of Hungary after World War I, many congregations - even whole Church Districts in Transylvania - were separated from our Church and placed beyond the borders of this country. These believers continue to live in their old homes, but in alien linguistic and religious surroundings. In the United States there are some 70 Hungarian Reformed congregations in two separate church bodies. In addition to these, Hungarian Reformed believers live in considerable numbers in Canada, Western Europe, Australia, and Latin America. The Reformed Church in Hungary maintains close fraternal relations with the Hungarian coreligionists living abroad, whether in neighbouring countries or dispersed throughout the world.

A FOTÓ VERSENY
THE PHOTO COMPETITION
The winners and their photos
At the beginning of the exchange programme we launched a photo competition and asked the participants to take photos not only for themselves but also to share them with the others and nominate one photo in the photo competition. The last day of the exchange each national group collected the chosen photos, we had them printed and then exhibited them so that everybody could vote for the photos they liked the best. One photo came in first from each country. We left the photos in the Spanish Centre in Yerevan, where we had our headquarters during the exchange, so that its visitors can see them and learn about our exchange.

Személyes benyomások Angela Grúziából: Nagyon tetszett ez a projekt. Sokat adott nekem.

Personal Impressions Angela from Georgia: I liked this project very much. It gave me a lot. I have learnt to communicate with people of my age from Spain and Hungary. I have changed in a way. I have learnt how to live together in friendship under the same roof with people from other countries. Thank you for all!
Hripsime from Georgia: It was very pleasant to discover Armenia with the Spanish and the Hungarians. I have learnt a lot from them. They taught me to be always simple and friendly and I taught them some words in Georgian and Armenian. I have never thought that I will meet such wonderful people. Thank you for the possibility to participate. Mher from Armenia: I think this programme gives a great opportunity for communicating with young people from different countries. Through this communication I’ ve understood that Armenian young people are not backward from others, neither in their way of thinking nor with respect to being intelligent. Andrea from Spain: I have a very positive opinion of this exchange. I got to know people very different from me, with other life perspectives and with a completely different way of understanding life. But this difference has not hindered the relationship with the other participants, on the contrary, hugely enriched it. Breixo from Spain: This exchange affected me personally very positively. The cultural difference was incredible. I have learnt to respect and value cultures that are different from mine. And the most important: I also felt respected and appreciated. The exchange had its good and bad aspects, but I have learnt from them a lot and I’ d love to live them through again in another exchange because this experience has enriched me a lot and I would like to improve like a person. Thank you for everything. Vazdan from Armenia: I think this exchange was very important because the world is changing very rapidly and developing countries need help from developed ones. We live in the other part of Europe and our way of life and viewpoints are different and communicating with Hungarians, Spanish and Georgians you start thinking more widely. Barbara from Hungary: I take with me deep memories from this country: the characteristic tastes, the beautiful landscapes, positive human characters, and the interest and open-mindedness on the part of the other participants.
Ági from Hungary: I am very glad that I could be here in Yerevan. I have learnt a lot: to be more open-minded, to try to understand different habits and cultural differences. I have experienced solidarity, tolerance and mutual understanding. The Hungarian group was like a big family. It was great!
Lusiné from Armenia: I am very happy that I could participate in this programme. As I have never taken part in this type of activity this exchange has much affected me. I have gained good friends, astonishing days, knowledge about Spaish, Georgian and Hungarian culture as well as about my own country.
Inessa from Georgia: Personally, I have changed my opinion about foreigners, now I can claim with conviction that they are very friendly and not at all contemptuous. The experiences of this exchange, although it was very short, will remain in my mind till the end of my life. I hope the others also feel like this. Thank you very much for this wonderful encounter!
