consecutive year, TIME will be held in Lampung. The event will take place in Graha Wangsa from 9 to 12 October 2012.
Lampung Has Seven Main Tourist Attractions
A
s an emerging tourist destination, what does Lampung have to attract tourists? Apparently, Lampung has seven main tourist attractions that have potentials to attract tourists. “Lampung has seven main tourist areas that include Krakatau, Bandar Lampung, Kiluan, South Bukit Barisan, Way Kambas, Tanjung Setia, and Siger Tower,” said Head of Culture and Tourism Bureau of Lampung, Gatot Hudi Utomo. Therefore, according to Gatot, Lampung not only has Way Kambas as a tourist attraction. In fact, he continued, Tanjung Setia has attracted tourists with special interest namely surfers from around the world. Meanwhile, the Kiluan Bay has dolphins as its main attraction. Local travel agencies normally sell dolphin tour packages. “Kiluan starts to gain its popularity. Unfortunately, it has inadequate access to the location. The government is working on improving the road access to Kiluan Bay, “said Gatot. In the meantime, just like Way Kambas National Park, Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park has elephants as its attraction. While Siger Tower that is situated on a hill become tourism icon of Lampung. “Siger tower is still in the process of development to make it as one of main tourist attractions in Lampung,” said Gatot. He added, Bandar Lampung is included in the list of seven main tourist attractions in Lampung and used as the centre of culture. One way to support this is by organizing cultural events in the city. “There will be Lampung Culture and Tapis Carnival held on October 6, 2012,” he said. This year, Tapis Carnival is entering its second year of implementation. According to Gatot, just like Solo Batik Carnival, Tapis Carnival features a fashion show of Tapis wear (traditional songket cloth of Lampung) on the road. Unlike the previous year, Tapis Carnival 2012 is
held together with Cultural Parade that will feature various cultures from 14 regencies in Lampung. The 2012 theme is “traditional clothes.” “The difference is that the Tapis carnival is more contemporary. The Cultural Parade appears more traditional such as presenting special clothes for the King. Tapis Carnival and Cultural Parade are intentionally held close to the implementation date of TIME 2012. “We hope that the participants of TIME 2012 could also watch the cultural parade and join the tour,” said Gatot. The tour includes watching the Cultural Parade and Tapis Carnival on October 6, 2012 and then, on October 7, 2012 the participants are invited to

ampung is hostin the Tourism Indonesia Mart and Expo (TIME) 2012 for the second time. The event which will take place at the Graha Wangsa, Bandar Lampung on 9 – 12 October is targeting transaction value up to US$ 19 million. The Chairwoman and Steering Committee of TIME 2012, Meity Robot, said that this year the event aims to bring in 80 buyers from 27 countries who will buy tour packages offered in the event. “Our target this year surpassed the achievement of last year’s transaction, which was US$ 15.7 million by presenting 77 buyers from 27 countries,” she said during a press conference in Sapta Pesona Building, Jakarta recently. She admitted that the transaction value earned in TIME 2011 was indeed under transaction value obtained during TIME 2010 in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, which valued US$ 18.9 million. Watching the activities of Anak Krakatau
and a beautiful view from the top of the mountain are things that make Anak Krakatau worth a visit. Mount Anak Krakatau is situated in the middle of the Sunda Strait, a strait that separates the island of Java and Sumatra. There are several ways to reach Anak Krakatau. You can choose a short flight from Jakarta to Bandar Lampung or use Ferry via Merak harbor. The main destination is Canti Village, which is a small village in the southern of Lampung. It is the nearest fishing port to Anak Krakatau. Meanwhile, from Bandar Lampung, you will continue the trip to Kalianda and then to the village of Canti. However, if you choose to use the ferry, first you have to take bus to Merak Harbor (Banten), after that crossed by ferry to Bakauheni Harbor in South Lampung and then to the village of Canti by a chartered car.
From the pier of Canti village, a fishing boat can be hired to visit the Krakatau Islands. Travel time reached 150 minutes. It costs around Rp 1.2 million to Rp 1.5 million for 20 people in a boat. Alternatively you can choose a package offered by Krakatoa Nirwana Resort located at Merak Belantung village, Kalianda. In addition to accommodation, the resort also provides a package of marine tours, including Krakatau Volcano Trip package for 10 people at a price of Rp 3.5 million, including lunch. The trip from Canti village to Anak Krakatau is generally started in the morning. Some islands will be visited for a short resting and enjoy the beauty of these islands. The first stop after traveling for about an hour is Sebuku Kecil Island, a small island that is very beautiful with white sandy beaches, blue stretch of sea that surrounds the island. This island is uninhabited and the entire island is still a natural

The Deadliest Volcano eruption has created layered of lava emerged from the crater of Mount Krakatau to the sea surface with a height of one meter above sea level. The crater is getting bigger and higher and then finally named Anak Krakatau (the child of Krakatau), which is a group of four large islands of Anak Krakatau, Sertung, Rakata, and Panjang. As an active volcano, Anak Krakatau has an interesting tourist attraction. forest, really pretty. The next stop is Sebesi Island. It is the nearest island to Mount Anak Krakatau and has a stunning underwater panorama. Not far from Sebesi Island, there is another island called Umang-Umang Island, which covers the area of 50 × 50 square meters. Although it is small, the island has a beautiful cluster of coral and pristine white sandy beach. You can have lunch or snorkeling here and at the same time enjoy the nature panorama of Sebesi Island and Anak Krakatau. Rakata Island will be the next stop. During the two-hour drive from Sebesi Island, we can see the black grayish top of Mount Anak Krakatau emerges among the dunes that surround it. There are very few pine trees around the foot of the mountain with an elevation of 337 meters. On Rakata Island, you can do snorkeling in the Cabe Lagoon, where unspoiled coral reefs and colorful ornamental fish looks so beautiful when viewed directly in their habitat. Enjoying the volcanic activities of Krakatau is best done at night. It is much prettier than in the daytime. You can enjoy dinner while watching the red and golden yellow lava burst from the crater. Here are some tips for those who want to do trekking to Anak Krakatau. First, do not forget to bring sunblock with a high SPF considering the hot temperature there. Second, try to leave as early as possible from Canti pier so that you don’t have to do trekking in the afternoon.

The bay is famous for its beautiful sea panorama and this bay is also the habitat of dolphins. From Bandar Lampung to Kiluan Bay, we are presented with stunning nature panorama. Passing the

It is a perfect place for surfers who want to concetrate conquering the waves. Finished spending time on Pasir Putih Beach, we crossed to the island situated in the middle of Kiluan Beach by a small boat that can accomodate as many as 8 passengers. It took us around 10 minutes to reach the island. At night, you can spend time fishing or having barbeque on the beach. On the next day, around 6 am, you need to get ready for dolphin watching. There are a lot more dolphins in Kiluan Bay than in Lovina Beach, Bali. Dolphin has become interesting attraction in Kiluan Bay. (*)

apis (Tapis fabric) is one of the traditional crafts of Lampung people who align their lives in both the environment and the Creator of the Universe. The making of Tapis fabric is taken through the stages that lead to perfection of its weaving techniques, and ways of providing decoration in accordance with the cultural development of the society. According to Van der Hoop, Lampung people have been weaving Brocade called Nampan (Tampan) and Pelepai fabric the 2nd century AD. The motifs are kait and konci (Key and rhomboid shape), Hayat trees and buildings containing the spirit of the deceased. There are also motifs of animals, sun, moon and jasmine. There is also a layered Tapis, which is embroidered with white silk thread called Inuh Tapis. The ornaments found in Lampung woven fabric also have elements in common with decoration in other areas. Tapis fabric is made from cotton yarn and gold thread. Cotton yarn is used as a raw material in the manufacture of Tapis. Meanwhile, gold thread and silver thread used to make decorative embroidery on Tapis using the embroidery technique.
Tanjung Setia Beach: Lampung’s Surfers Paradise A nother beach that should be visited by marine lovers is Tanjung Setia Beach in Lampung. It is perfect for those who like diving and surfing. Tanjung Setia is located about 60 km from Liwa (capital of West Lampung). It is one of the beaches found in Krui, West Lampung and known for its high waves. Although obscured from spotlights, the waves at Tanjung Setia are touted as among the world’s best by surfers from all over the globe, and at par with the world famous surf of Hawaii. With the waves that can reach as high as 7 meters and 200 meters in length, it is not a surprise that not less than 100,000 tourists from Australia, Portuguese, Holland and Japan regularly visit this beach every year for surfing.
Not many people know the beach. It is secluded along the western coast of Lampung. Beyond the the thick forests of the Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park lies this enchanting hidden paradise. Located about 273 km or about 7 hours driving from the province’s capital Bandar Lampung, in the Tanjung Setia Village of the West Lampung district, the Tanjung Setia Beach lies directly in the path of the large Indian Ocean currents that enhance it with constant fascinating waves. This beach is best visited during the month of June to August because the waves are very nice. In that month, the waves can be as high as 6-7 meters and a length of 200 meters. It’s really a paradise for surfers. Considering its high waves, only professional surfers surf here. However, if you like surfing and want to test your skill here, do
give a try. Away from the beach and the high waves, Tanjung Setia Beach has calm waters. This is where the diving lovers and anglers gather and explore together the underwater potentials on the western side of Lampung with their own way. With few people know about its existence, Tanjung Setia offers pristine beach with white sand and crystal clear water as well as beautiful nature panorama. Amazing phenomenon that should not be missed is the sunset. Orange sky meets with the big waves it can make you endlessly amazed. So, if you love Surfing, Tanjung Setia would be one choice that should be considered. A surfing camp is available to make it easier for travelers who want to surf. (*)

ast Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province is already known rich in natural and cultural potentials. Unfortunately, the number of tourist visit to the region is still considere to be low. It is considering the limitation in terms of connectivity and transportation. This was said by Secretary Directorate General Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Fathul Bahri during the NTT Tourism Direct Promotion at Sanur Paradise Plaza recently. He further said that Indonesia as an archipelago should ideally develop sea transportation. “But ship has many limitation. To provide faster access, connectivity via air transportation is required. Therefore, the development of air transportation to support tourism is very essential,” Fathul said. Head of Sub Division of Promotion NTT Culture and Tourism Bureau, Bona Rumaat said that NTT is the province with the largest number of airports in Indonesia. Unfortunately, there are not many airlines consider to open flight route to this region. “Almost every regencies and cities in NTT has an airport,” he said. Besides air route, private sectors have also taken part in the development of speedboat service from one island to another. He expects Sail Komodo 2013 will support the infrastructure development in NTT. “For Sail Komodo, we will gather all elements of the government to take part in succeeding the event, and one of them is by developing infrastructure,” he said. The provincial government of NTT is ready to welcome the event, including preparing the local community to support the event. Currently, said Fathul, air route service in NTT is served by Garuda Indonesia, Merpati, TransNusa, Batavia, Lion Air and Susi Air. It is planned that NTT will open a direct flight to Australia. Chairman of ASITA (Indonesia Association of Travel Agency) Bali, Ardana said that tour operators that become members of ASITA offer not only tour packages to Bali, but also to other areas in Indonesia by making Bali as the hub for international tourists. “NTT’s potentials are incredible,” he said. Ardana admitted that one of the problems that should be dealt with regarding flight access to NTT is the unavailability of direct flight to the region. Hopefully, in the future the local government more actively promote their region by establishing cooperation with airline companies in order to provide easier transportation access to NTT.

outheast Asian countries are determined to fight against the sex tourism. Aggressive action to fight sex tourism has been done in the period of 20042009 and aimed particularly to activities involving child sex workers. Senior Officer Infrastructure Division ASEAN Secretariat Eddy Krismeide said that his division has carried out massive campaign to inform that in ASEAN, there is sex tourism with children as the victims or pedophilia. “The massive campaign involved tourism destination operators and stakeholders in the country of destination type to suppress pedophilia. After 2009 until now, the campaign against sex tourism has been changed into preventive action by asking every tourism school to apply the ASEAN curriculum that is specially discussed about pedophilia, “he said. He further explained that now there is special subject of protection against child sex and how to protect children from being the victim of child sex. Responding to the issue, former Minister of Culture and Tourism I Gede Ardika said that there are severe penalties for pedophiles. There are two sentences. First, be punished in accordance to the rules in force in the country where the pedophile committed his crime. Once he is free, he is going to be prosecuted and punished in accordance with the rules in force in the country of origin. “The implementation of the tourism code
of ethics could improve the quality of tourism products and services, enhance competitiveness, answer the trend of tourist’s needs, and to improve the nation’s image. Tourism is not just about the economy, but also contributes to alleviate poverty by building understanding among nations in a variety of differences to create world peace, “he said.
While Eddy Krismeidi said that as an organization, ASEAN has not adopted tourism code of ethics. “The recommendation will be brought to the tourism ministerial meeting, in January 2013, in Laos. evelopment of various types of traditional Balinese musical instruments, especially the gamelan, provides export opportunities to musical instruments from the island. Head of Public Relations Bureau of the Provincial Government of Bali, I Ketut Teneng said Bali has exported 998,562 units of musical instruments worth US$ 107,759 over a seven-month period from January to July 2012. “The condition in terms of volume increased 10.04% and the value achievement rose 28.39% over the same period in the previous year, which was US$ 83, 931 from the shipment of 9847 units. Balinese craftsmen and artists produce instruments with a distinctive and unique design combined with the technology of musical instruments, so as to attract the attention of consumers in various countries, “he said. Moreover, he said that foreign tourists enjoy traveling on the island and also bought many souvenirs, including a musical instrument to be taken back to their countries. However, tourists who buy various kinds of souvenirs brought directly those products to their countries so that the actual foreign exchange generated is much greater than the data collected by the local Industry and Trade Bureau. “Musical instruments of Bali have great potential to generate foreign exchange although so far the foreign exchange earned is quite fluctuated following the demand of the world market. During this time, he argues, the musical instrument is one of the 17 types of commodities of Balinese crafts that can penetrate foreign markets that generate foreign exchange worth US$ 124.94 million or 44.13% of the total exports of Bali as a whole during the period of January to July 2012, “he said. Exploring the beauty of Manado City
At Chinese New Year celebrations, the temple becomes more beautiful with lantern decorations. Ban Hin Kiong is a place of worship as well as historical site for the city of Manado. The next activity after visiting the temple would be a culinary tour. You should try the typical dishes of Manado called Tinutuan consisting of various vegetables. Tinutuan is not porridge. Another special food from Manado is yellow rich, which taste and presentation is different from yellow rice in other areas. There are also grilled snapper’s head and dabu-dabu. Dabu-dabu is a typical condiment of Manado that is very popular. It is made from a mixture of sliced red pepper, cayenne pepper, red onion and diced fresh tomatoes and soy sauce. After enjoying Manado’s culinary, the next destination would be Bunaken National Park. Bunaken is a favorite tourist destination in Manado. It is a beautiful marine park that has been known throughout the world. There are many things that can be done in the park having a species known as one of the largest and most unique in the world. Therefore, imagine Bunaken is like imagining a giant aquarium park. If you visit Bunaken, watching the underwater beauty from the boat is not enough. Although it looks very beautiful with colorful marine life, but it will be much more beautiful when you can directly touch the anemones, corals and fish. Diving (diving) to the seafloor is the most perfect choice of activity if we want to enjoy Bunaken maximally. However, to diving someone should have diving certificate or if not must be accompanied by a guide,

T
raveling around Indonesia during holiday season is a fun activity. Besides the charm of unspoiled nature and culture, Indonesia has a lot of unique historical relics that are worth a visit. This time I tried to share the fun of traveling in Indonesia. Not long ago I had the opportunity to traveling to Manado with the media and travel agents from South Korea. They came at the invitation of the Directorate of Marketing of Tourism, Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy Indonesia. After a 3-hour flight from Jakarta, we have finally arrived in the city of Manado. Manado city located at the northern tip of Sulawesi Island is the provincial capital of North Sulawesi. Ban Hin Kiong Temple is the first place that should be visited once you arrived in this city. The red temple has a long history, there are even two cannons from Dutch colonial in this place. In addition to being a place of worship, Ban Hin Kiong Pagoda is also a favorite destination of the traveler. It is located in the center of Manado and easy to reach. This temple is about 4 centuries old and a silent witness to the development of the city of Manado. The name of the temple has the meaning of “Blessed Palace”. It is located precisely on Jalan DI Panjaitan. It is unfortunate that details of the history of this temple have gone in the fire incident that occurred on March 14, 1970. Entering the temple, red color will dominate every corner. The statues of gods and incense became a daily sight here. Interestingly, on the top floor you will find two cannons from the Dutch colonial. Letters VOC printed on the cannon has become interesting historical remain.
and more importantly, renting diving equipment is quite expensive. For a set of scuba gear, we must spend about $ 1 million. Not to mention the cost of equipment and the cost of the tour. Even if you cannot dive, snorkeling being the most rational alternative to enjoy the underwater beauty of Bunaken. Your hard work will pay off once to see the beautiful corals, anemones, and other marine species. They are arranged to form a very high cliff of the ocean depths around 60-150m from the seabed. In the middle of the reef, the fish swim to and fro, from one anemone to another. There are schools of fish with different colors there. Diving in Bunakes, touching the softness of anemones and watching colorful fish swimming around, you will remember famous Disney’s movie “Finding Nemo.” Spending the evening watching the sunset at Beach Boulevard would be lovely. The beautiful evening colors on the sky and reflected on the surface of water definitely cheer up your evening in Manado. However, if you come at the weekends, you should arrive earlier if you do not want to trap in the middle of traffic on Tendean Street. Boulevard can be reached by public transport or private vehicles. The location is quite strategic and it is one of the most popular tourist areas in Manado. Boulevard is also the center of people’s activities in Manado. There are plenty of accommodations here with prices ranging from the cheapest to the highest. It won’t be difficult to get a place to stay in Manado. Don’t forget to bring your camera for the beauty of Boulevard and the city of Manado is for sure should not be missed. (*)

Pariwisata Sektor Penting Pembangunan Berkelanjutan
Sapta Nirwandar saat membuka Konferensi Pembangunan Pariwisata Berkelanjutan
W

inum kopi kini menjadi gaya hidup. Bukan hanya di kota besar, di pedesaan pun gairah minum kopi meningkat. Tiap tahun terjadi peningkatan penikmat kopi sebesar tujuh persen. Belakangan, kebiasaan ini merambah kaum perempuan. Sejumlah kedai kopi pun bermunculan.

“Ukuran keberhasilan pariwisata bersifat multimensi.
