In September 1935 the 9th World Congress of Dermatology was organised by the HDS, the congress secretary was István Rothman, the congress president was Lajos Nékám. Aims of the society: This is an organisation of natural and legal entities, who are involved in researches on dermato-venerology. The goal of this society is to develop dermato-venerology and cosmetic treatments, to enrich the scientific knowledge of the members, as well as to train the members in the fields of medical ethics. In order to reach its goals, the Hungarian Dermatological Society organises lectures, national and international conferences, publishes a learned journal (Bőrgyógyászati és Venerológiai Szemle – in English: Journal of Hungarian Dermatology and Venereology) and other publications. An important aim of HDS is to maintain and improve good relationship with national and international societies. Conferences: The most important conference of HDS is the Annual Meeting in December each year since 1928. HDS joins the Euro Melanoma Day every year since 2007, when doctors of our society are doing melanoma screening.
HDS also arranges activities for the press and patient associations on the occassion of the Psoriasis World Day on the 29th of October every year. Paediatric Dermatological Days are also organised regularly by HDS. In every two years HDS organises a cosmetological conference together with the Association of Hungarian Private Dermatologists. Also in every two years the DUDG (German-Hungarian Dermatological Society) has an international congress. Sections of the HDS: - Contact dermatitis section - Dermato-chirurgical section - Dermato-infectional section - Dermato-oncological section - Section of experimental dermatology - Paediatric dermatology section - Section of history of dermatology - Cosmetological section - Lymphoma section - Mycology section - German-Hungarian section - Photodermatological section - Psychodermatological section - Psoriasis section + Task force of dermato-venerology nurses Professional organs: Dermatological and Venerological Review of the Hungarian Dermatological Society (www.derma.hu). Supporting activities The Board of Directors determines a financial frame every year, from which the presence of young dermatologists, residents on international conferences is supported. Traditionally, one conference is chosen every year, and all the financial frame is dedicated to support that conference. Other supports: HDS awards the best dermatological study on the Contest of Scientific Research of Students in every Clinic, every year. There are also special courses for residents, organised or supported by the HDS.
Foundations: There is one foundation supported by the HDS: Fekete Zoltán Foundation. It awards one young dermatologist every year.
