Voor ons was het een feestje, maar voor Sheila Edwards, Boudica Babes Colchester, was het een ander verhaal. Zij kwam een dag voor de Hoot te vallen bij het Anne Frank Huis en brak haar heup. Dearest Queen Marlene The Blueberry Muffins of Worthing, England would like to extend their most fabulous red & purple thanks for a magnifi-cent Hoot. The organisation was first class and everything went per-fectly to plan. The canal trip was great fun and the meal delicious and well organised - a sel-service buffet was so much better and worked really well. Please would you pass on our thanks to all the lovely ladies that assi-sted you and helped to give us such a marvellous day. We will now look forward to hearing where the next Hoot will be taking place.

I looked for you at the restaurant to thank you, but Kathy (the other American) said you had just left. Too bad I missed you. Let me take the opportunity to thank you now, in the name of all my enthusiastic Ladies. You prepared very well and were able to tell us dates, facts, stories, and even personal tales about each of the places we visited, told in fluent English. And the places were amazing! Beautiful old wood, ancient casks, a secret tunnel to a Catholic church, wooden floors with sand, delicious drinks and food, monkey statues, old tiles on the wall, and friendly bar-keepers. The transportation between places was organized well, whether by tram, by foot, or by the surprise bicycle-taxis! (What an experience!)

I'm only sorry you were put behind schedule by one bike-taxi arriving late, and by the slow walking of our group (one lady had problems with her knee, but she didn't complain, just kept walking). It was clever to have the last bar near Café Heffer, so those of us who wanted to go straight on to the restaurant could easily do so. Our group from Germany felt very welcomed by you, and thought it was a great privilege to have an expert in Amsterdam show us around to places we would have never known about! It was fascinating how multinational your group was -- two Americans, four Germans, and several English and Dutch women. We mixed around quite a lot and enjoyed getting to talk to Red Hatters from other countries in a small group. You were very responsible in seeing that we all kept together and no-one was left behind. Thank you for enrichening our experience of the Amsterdam Hoot! I hope we can see each other again sometime, maybe at next year's Hoot? With a thousand thanks, Becky

Kan me in alle opmerkingen vinden behalve in die over de (je raadt het al) de catering. Zowel als Pub 1 als Heffer was voor ons een debacle. Geen 2e kop koffie en rampvertoning bij Heffer. Edoch: de manager, aangesproken door 1 van mijn ladies, kwam zijn excuses aanbieden en nodigde ons uit voor een 3-gangen goedmaakdiner! Man was echt in de stress. ik denk dat niet veel horecamensen zo excuses aanbieden en compenseren. Eind goed, al goed. Dus voor ons nog een reisje naar Amsterdam..... De Bossche Ladies willen iedereen bedanken voor de ENORME inzet tijdens de HOOT! We hebben van begin tot eind genoten al waren we wel iets Eerder weg want de zaal was zo vol, we konden er niet meer bij. Geeft niets,iedereen was voldaan en ik heb me de hele dag lopen realiseren wat een UNIEK iets we zaterdag meemaakten!!!!! Prima boottocht georganiseerd door chapter van Tinie, veel lol onderweg . Met zo veel voorbereiding al maanden van tevoren is 5 september een overweldigend succes geworden. Chapeau! Ik heb van af het eerst tot het laatst moment enorm van genoten! Als enigst van mijn Chapter die aanwezig was, heb ik mijn geen enkel moment alleen gevoeld. In tegendeel. Ik heb de Historisch kroegentocht gedaan met Queen Monique. Zij had het goed voorbereid en bracht ons in de leukste, aparte cafés met de bus, met bike taxi en te voet. Haar verhalen waren interessant, soms bizarre en soms grappig. Echt TOP! Ik wou mijn fotos op de Hoot site zetten maar weet niet hoe het moet, dus stuur ik ze naar jullie toe. Nogmaals mijn dank voor een absolute fantastische Hoot. I'm sorry we didn't actually introduce ourselves although I believe I had a photo taken with you without realising who you were. We were late arriving at the venue Saturday morning due to a problem we had with our hotel so everything was a little chaotic. I heard that there were 500 red hat ladies altogether which was incredible and we met so many new friends. You organized everything so well and chose such beautiful sites, both in the morning and evening. The Meet & Greet at the 1e Klas was a great success for our first contacts, and it was very welcoming to have a drink and waffles (for a low price) while greeting old faces and meeting new ones. Getting our vouchers was quick and easy because of your detailed preparations starting many months before. We had fun mixing and chatting with each other, seeing the beautiful variety of styles and hats, and enjoying the music of the RedtekeHat choir!

For the group photo afterwards in the Great Hall, we were disappointed not to have been in it. We had brought German flags and had a banner printed ″ RHS in Europe″ especially for this group photo. For some reason, we didn't hear the announcement (in Dutch?) to go down to the Hall. The Swedish with their flags also seem not to have been there, plus some others I talked to later. Too bad! Well, we hope to have better luck next year! The gathering in front of the station was a joyful event, thanks to your surprise of having a hurdy-gurdy play music for us. A wonderful idea, that prompted many of us to dance! It was good to have it paid for by contributions from various Dutch Chapters. Your idea of having host chapters show us through Amsterdam in small groups was very successful! As I wrote to Monique, we thoroughly enjoyed having her take us into different cafes and pubs we would never have seen otherwise. She was very well prepared and sprung quite a number of surpri-

Café Heffer was a beautiful venue for our evening dinner. Having a buffet was a great improvement over last year in Brussels, when we had everyone choose beforehand from a multitude of choices, which slowed the service down too much for some groups. Also, it was a good idea to negotiate a set price for the buffet and ask people to pay for it when they registered – again, at a very reasonable price. Well, let me tell you all about it, as it involved over four hundred of our Red Hat "sisters". These beauties joined to celebrate the third annual RHS European Hoot from countries throughout Europe, while I traveled by myself from Chicago! As I attempted to piece together my patchwork travel quilt, I was graciously assisted by three VERY busy Red Hat Queens.

They were Queen Mum Marlene of The Netherlands, Queen Elizabeth Deutsch (the overall coordinator of the European RHS Hoots) from Germany, and Queen Carina of Sweden. Whether my questions pertained to hotels, taxis, trains, currency or phone usage, these three wonders rapidly and thoroughly answered my questions, and this in turn helped put me at ease. The day of The Hoot included a group photo shoot in the morning, at least ten possible city tours during the day, then a delicious buffet for one and all at Cafe Heffer in the evening. The incredible attention to detail by the planners was obvious, and this event was flawless! Over fifty Dutch chapters supported The Hoot, and warmly welcomed us to their country. Even the weather co-operated, and the sun finally began to shine. Being able to celebrate the Red Hat Society abroad while viewing the wondrous fashions, and creative hat choices was an incomparable experience indeed. Cobblestone streets, a hurdy-gurdy, a Dutch choral group, and lots of wine and beer? Yes, it was all there!
