2nd Symex 2012 – We made it happened
from initiation to execution It
is still in our memory that 1st Symex was done in December 2011 and finally the continuation of our dream has been fulfilled when 2nd Symex was done in November 13-14, 2012 in Yogyakarta. Why we keep on having the Symex? It is simply because we keep on transforming our dreams and passion in project management into real execution. We also do not want to lose the momentum of this excitement. The growth of PMI Members and PMP in Indonesia is a proof that the project management awareness has been improving a lot since the day we boost our spirit to grow our professional project management mindfulness.
of XL Axiata and Mr. CaoXi a Director of Services APAC Huawei sharing their great presentation in the Symex, followed by other great speakers from PMI San Fransisco Ray Ju, PMP and former PMI Hawaii Chapter President, Amin Leman, PMP. A nice networking dinner was embedded into 2 days agenda, where it was located in Prambanan Temple, one of the oldest and biggest Hindi Temple in Indonesia. It was a great experience to have an outdoor dinner closed to the most precious temple in Indonesia.
The 2nd Symex had the subject “Reveal the Unknown”. Yes, we want to know more in how the prominent speakers and project management experts manage their projects. They shared their precious experiences, knowledge and skills to the participants, so we could learn a lot from them. This time, the Symex took place in Yogyakarta, one of the most beautiful and history rich city in Indonesia. Not to forget, where Borobudur Temple is located closed to Yogyakarta and it symbolizes PMI Indonesia Chapter uniquely.
Before Dr. Moylan spoke in the Symex, he had a chance to speak in from of hundreds Students of Engineering Faculty in University of Gajah Mada (UGM) with cooperation with Dr. Budi Hartono a Faculty Lecturer of UGM. The speech was so inspiring to all of general lecture participants, hence Dr. Budi and his students were so convinced to re-establish Yogyakarta Branch. Of course, this moment was so important to notice as one of major milestone achievement of PMI Indonesia Chapter. The Symex was closed by Rector of University Gajah Mada, Prof. Pratikno after an interactive talk to show where PMI Indonesia now and where they will move in the future.
It was our honor to have Prof. William Moylan, one of PMI BoD; Chapter Presidents PMI Singapore Umesh Ursekar, PMP; PMI Malaysia Robert Gan, PMP; and PMI Philippine Ray Lamdagan, PMP and also SoHyun Kang and William Boivin from PMI APSC. Furthermore, other prominent speakers such Ms. Dian Siswarini CTO
It is our commitment to keep on trans forming our dreams into reality and to grow together in Indonesia with our passion and spirit in Project Management. We will keep on moving forward and we will move much faster if you support us by volunteering yourself to the chapters and keep on sharing your great experiences to the others in a
professional way. So, fasten your seat belt and get ready for more fun in 2013. See you in 3rd Symex soon! Mohammad Ichsan, PMP President of PMI Indonesia Chapter

S
Memberikan sertifikasi sebanyak 462,083 credentials. Ayo bangkit Indonesia!

Taking Charge of Change Projects are designed to deliver value at every level. They should be purposeful, measurable and should successfully manage risk and change. Purposeful projects are aligned with organizational strategy and deliver benefits and values beyond tactical deliverables. Purposeful projects must also be measureable, which means that the scope, resources and schedule are well defined. Evaluation and corrective action also need to be done to ensure the projects meet the objectives. A project also needs the project manager or team member to be responsible for the project. The responsibility for the person in charge means that project is managed for changes that will be occurred. Value for Society Projects are crucial to the development of countries. Based on a report from The Economist in 2011, the biggest GDP growth in the world was China with 10.6%. This number was followed by India with 8.0% growth within 2001-2011. These two countries are known as the most quickly developing countries in the last decade. Eastern Europe and South East Asia also grew significantly. Meanwhile, developed countries like Japan, US, UK, the European region and Canada show a small growth in GDP. Reports also showed that numerous projects and opportunities have occurred in the world. China adds electrical power equal to Germany’s every year, while India adds more than 6 million mobile phone accounts every month. In other parts of the world, Latin America increased exports faster in 2000-2010 than at any time in the 20th century and Africa has more children in school and faster infrastructure growth than ever before. The description above shows a common language for projects across borders, languages and cultures. Efficient adaptation by project managers as well as team members should be done for anticipated change and flexibility for unforeseen change. In line with those magnificent countries development and global projects, developing countries are seen as a new market for global companies to expand their businesses there. Organizations built branches and centers in those countries, especially in China and India. Some companies in the Fortune 500 now have 98 R&D facilities in China and 63 in India. IBM is now the second-largest private employer in India. Microsoft’s Beijing R&D center is its largest outside its US headquarters while GE’s Bangalore technology center is its largest anywhere. Project Management Value Project management delivers value for all stakeholders. It meets the scope, cost and schedule of completing the initiative. Program management can also reduce conflict, group projects and maximize the objective of

the projects. Meanwhile, portfolio management is better aligned with organizational strategy, allowing fuller realization of project/program benefits. The performance level is constrained by time, cost and scope, along with technical, leadership and strategic management capabilities. These constraints can be transformed into technical, leadership, and strategic/ management. Research studies indicate that a higher success rate is achieved when the project management practices are implemented. SUCCESS RATE 75% Have active sponsors on 80% or more of projects 72% Have over 35% of project managers certified with the PMP 72% Always use risk management practices 71% Always use portfolio management practices 71% Have a carrier path for those in project/program management 71% Always use change management practices 70% Have a formal process for developing project/program managers 68% Often use agile methodologies 64% Study average Project management also delivers values for practitioners. In long term, practitioners can increase their skills, and the demand for skilled project managers will increase in all markets. Therefore, project managers must be ready for global opportunities. PMI is the most trusted institution that gives global gold-standard certification and professional development. Through the communities both face-to-face and online methods, networking and knowledge sharing is done among the members to increase skills. PMI also gives broad opportunities for its members to access the world’s leading collection of research and career resources for project managers. The growth of project management skills is in correlation with the increase in salary. In terms of annualized salary, the total number of years experience does appear to impact salary, the stronger correlation is with the number of years a person has actually worked within the project management profession (PMI 7th salary survey). Project management delivers not only the project deliverables but, most importantly, organizational value. The value of projects engages the future of society. The implementation of project management turns strategy into success and the practitioners become agents of change. This is also in line with PMI’s envisioned goal where worldwide, organizations will embrace, value and utilize project management and attribute their success to it.

Starting this edition onwards, board of editor add a new column namely “from member to member ”. In this column, every PMI member particularly Indonesia chapter member can share his experience, his testimonial or topic discussion, anything relates to project manage ment. In our first edition of “new face” of our beloved Excellentia, some members shared their success story in passing the PMP exam and gained precious benefit by joining PMP Exam Study Group.
Surya graduated from Telecommunication, STT Telkom Bandung in 2007. He worked at Indosat Devisi Presales & Engineering Solution. Currently, he is working at PT Sigma Cipta Caraka (telkomsigma) as Project Manager Pembangunan Infrastructure Data Centre Terima kasih atas support yang diberikan selama ini dari PMI Indonesia Chapter.
Endri Sie, PMP PMI ID # 2433573 He is currently working at UOB as HR Project Management Manager. He dedicated his PMP certification to his beloved wife and daughter. Luar biasa.
It is an opportunity and honour for me to part of PMI Indonesia Chapter and PMI Study Group. Even personal commitment and work hard is an important thing as PMP examination preparation, but PMI Study groups support me on how to easily understand with difficult understanding of PMBOK concept terminology, ITTO definition and understanding and serials of process group.

Most credentials must be renewed every three years. Standards • PMI standards are targeted at projects, programs, people, organizations and the profession. Currently, some of the published standards are: • A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK Guide)— Fourth Edition (2008). Recognised by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) as an American National Standard (ANSI/PMI 99-001-2008). • The Standard for Program Management— Second Edition (2008). PMI Roadshow to Ministry of Finance

@Ministry of Finance, Jakarta - 30 July 2012
s the culmination of the efforts of several volunteer committees, PMI plans to launch updates to three of its core standards in January 2013. PMI global standards are developed under a process based on consensus, openness, due process and balance, and provide rules, guidelines or characteristics integral to achieving project, program and portfolio management results. Because the standards are vetted by the general public in the exposure draft phase, you can be assured that PMI standards continually and accurately reflect the evolving profession. These widely accepted standards will help you, your global peers and your organization achieve professional excellence.
The Standard for Program Management – Third Edition This standard provides a detailed understanding of program management and promotes efficient and effective communication and coordination among various project management groups. Updates include:
After enrolling the PMBoK training, they joined the 4-hours exam preparation session which was held in MOF office in Jakarta on July 30, 2012. The result was satisfactory, most of them passed CAPM, thus making MOF the institution that has most CAPM certified holders in Indonesia. This showed Indonesian government is gradually adopting project management practices in the ministries.
Program Life Cycle has been assigned its own section to provide details of the unique set of elements that make up the program management phases. The Third Edition highlights the full scope of program management and clarifies the supporting processes that complete the delivery of programs in the organizational setting. A more detailed definition of program management within an organization is provided, including the fundamental difference between project management and program management.
attracted around 250 students from various faculties (e.g. engineering, business, social science) and faculty members alike. The organizer had to decline many other incoming students to attend the talk due to the fully occupied seminar room.
The Standard for Portfolio Management – Third Edition Portfolio management is an integral part of the organization’s overall strategic plan. While project and program management focus on “doing the work right”, the purpose of portfolio management is “doing the right work”. This standard offers the most up-to-date information regarding accepted practices in portfolio management and includes the following new material: Three Knowledge Areas have been added that map to the Portfolio Strategic Management, Portfolio Performance Management and Portfolio Communication Management Process Groups. One Process Group (the Defining Process Group) has been added and one (the Monitoring and Controlling Process Group, now the Authorizing and Controlling Process Group) has been renamed. These updated core standards will be available in January for PMI members as read-only PDF files on PMI.org. Printed copies of the three standards will also be available in January, but can be pre-ordered on PMI Marketplace, http://marketplace.pmi.org. Save by ordering bundles of multiple standards. For example, order all three updated standards for a member price of USD 112.95, a savings of USD 40 over the non-member price, USD 34 over the member price of the three ordered individually and USD 75 over the non-member price of three ordered individually. A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide) – Fifth Edition The PMBOK® Guide provides the fundamentals of project management as they apply to a wide range of projects. This internationally recognized standard gives project managers the essential tools to practice project management and deliver organizational results. New for the fifth edition are: A tenth Knowledge Area, Project Stakeholder Management, expands upon the importance of appropriately engaging project stakeholders in key decisions and activities. Project data information and information flow have been redefined to bring greater consistency and be more aligned with the Data, Information, Knowledge and Wisdom (DIKW) model used in the field of Knowledge Management Four new planning processes have been added: Plan Scope Management, Plan Schedule Management, Plan Cost Management, Plan Stakeholder Management. There were created to reinforce the concept that each of the subsidiary plans is integrated through the overall project management plan.
The event was started by an opening speech by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, UGM and was followed by an introduction of PMI by the General Secretary of the PMI Indonesia. The key speaker of the event was Prof. Dr. William A. Moylan, PMP – the board director of the PMI, USA. In his inspiring talk, Prof Moylan shared his insights and thoughts on the Value of Project Management for Society, Organizations, and Practitioners. A lively discussion followed immediately, as many aspiring students wanted to have more information on the subject.
PMI Goes to Campus Universitas Gadjah Mada @Kampus UGM, Yogyakarta , 12 November 2012 The ‘PMI Goes to Campus’ event, once again, came to Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The highly anticipated event was co-hosted by the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, UGM and the Project Management Institute (PMI) – Indonesia chapter on Monday, November 12th 2012. This event
The event marks the new level of co-operation between UGM and PMI – Indonesian Chapter. The years of 2011 and 2012 had witnessed a mutual collaboration between the Faculty of Engineering, UGM and PMI. These include the first PMI ‘Goes to Campus’ event in UGM (PMI GTC 2011); the UGM National Conference on Industrial Engineering (SENTI 2011, Yogyakarta), the 6th IEEE International Conference on Management of Innovation and Technology (ICMIT 2012, Bali), and the PMI International Symposium on Project Management (Symex 2012, Yogyakarta). The re-establishment of the PMI Indonesia, Yogyakarta Branch during Symex 2012 would definitely open new opportunities for even closer, mutual collaboration between the institutions.

“Going global” or like Agnes Monica, one of our best actress often says “Go International” is a current trend in Indonesia work culture. Many people have a passion to work or live overseas and imagine all good things will happen if we work abroad. However, there are some challenges to work and to live in different culture. Mr. Amin Leman shared his thoughts how to globalize yourself in his presentation at the 2nd Symposium Exhibition (Symex) 2012, Yogyakarta. Many Symex participants are excited with his presentation and gained new understanding about global mindset. As part of PMI Indonesia Chapter service to project management community, we would like to share his presentation into some key points in this article for whom cannot attend the symposium, so you still can learn how to globalize yourself. There are three capitals of global mindset, which are: 1. Intellectual Capital: reflects your global business savvy, your cosmopolitan outlook, and your cognitive complexity. Global Business Savvy: • Knowledge of global industry • Knowledge of global competitive business and marketing strategies • Knowledge of how to transact business and assess risks of doing business internationally • Knowledge of supplier options in other parts of the world Cognitive Complexity: • Ability to grasp complex concepts quickly • Strong analytical and problem solving skills • Ability to understand abstract ideas • Ability to take complex issues and explain the main points simply and understandably Cosmopolitan Outlook: • Knowledge of cultures in different parts of the world • Knowledge of geography, history, and important persons of several countries • Knowledge of economic and political issues, concerns, hot topics, etc. of major regions of the world • Up-to-date knowledge of important world events

environment and city planning aspect, financial aspect, economical aspect.
Introduction
Every construction project should give benefits for the investor. These benefits consist of profit, business development, resources utilization, job opportunities, etc. Profits are achieved in long period and should have an accurate investment forecast so the investors still have willingness to invest their money. Effective and efficient use of land not only reduces the routine expenditures but also exchange into income source.
In feasibility study of building construction project, top ranks of risk variables have relation with economical aspect and financial aspect. This shows that economics are easy to change and unpredictable so be an important aspect in project investment. The changes of economics factors have a direct influence to the benefits that will be achieved by investors. The examples are devaluation and inflation will cause the increasing of materials price and services costs, increasing in interest rate and high overhead cost will cause increasing in expenditures that have to pay by investors. Other extreme risks that have most influence to feasibility study of building construction projects are: policy in increasing of loan interest rate, high overhead cost, national economic growth does not match the projection, leak of law enforcement, cancellation in giving loan, exceeded loan, complicated and difficult bureaucracy in giving construction and operational permission, exceeded investment in inappropriate time and uncontrolled inflation.
Project feasibility study is used to get the alternatives of optimal land use that give the highest profits. Feasibility study analysis also gives information about the value of investment and the benefits that investors will get. Definite return of investment can be seen from feasibility study. Commonly, Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR) and Payback Period are value that used by investor to consider this project is feasible or not. According to the characteristic of construction industry, which has high uncertainty, so it will occur many risks during construction phase and or operational building. Risks can influence the profit and it will decrease the feasibility parameter until infeasible condition for investing the project. To those assumption, risks should have been anticipated and calculate it into the feasibility analysis so the not happening for risks will be the addition advantage for the investor. 2

Overview: Feasibility Study
Investment in construction projects needs a big amount of money with high uncertainty. Even high profits can be achieved but to reduce the uncertainty, it has to make the good forecast and feasibility study. The efforts to reduce the uncertainty and increase the certainty of project successfulness is depend on the plan. One of the most phases in planning is feasibility study that is the study of feasible or not the project to be constructed with succeeds [2]. The plan needs not only uneasy efforts but also cost in a not small amount. Decision, which is taken based on the planning, will reduce risks that will be faced. The risks can make project into failed even in the construction, operation or marketing of the building. In the project cycle, the biggest opportunity to reduce total cost of project is in the planning and feasibility study phase [3]. Some aspects that is examined in the phase of feasibility study are [3]: Market aspect, learn about demand, supply and prices; technical aspect, discuss the direct relation with operational effort, such as production capacity, technology that is used, production scale, process, location, etc.; management aspect, learn thinks which have relation with the management of the project; financial aspect, discuss about cash flow, money

sources and financial projection even input or output. A risk is such condition where exist possibilities of bad deviation from the wanted or expected result [4]. A risk will be influencing when it produce a change to the result and have a possibilities to happen. Risk management is done to manage risk so that the main goal of the project can be achieved. There are some phase to be done in risk management that is: risk identification to search and find out a type of risk that could be happen; risk evaluation to the identified risks so it can be known the impact of risks; risk allocation to determine who will be took the responsibility of possible risks that could be happen; risk mitigation is used to transform risks to other parties that could not be take by ourselves. 3
Risk Analysis in Feasibility Study of Building Construction Project
Feasibility study analysis calculates risks in building construction projects and the risk variables include 8 aspect of investment feasibility that is consist of marketing aspect, technical and technological aspect, political aspect, regulation and policy aspect, social and cultural aspect,
Conclusion
In this case study which is building construction project, risk factors give a significant influence to the investment plan of research object. Risk factors that have the highest influence to the construction project are those that have relation with economical and financial aspect. Uncertainty of construction project can carry problems on the change of assumption value that is used in study. Economic factors have close relation with investment parameters that can make the significant changes of feasibility parameters.

edikit sharing dan kilas balik mengenai organisasi not for profit PMI Indonesia Chapter. PMI

Borobudur Temple is one of the best places to see the moment of sun setting. In this place you can enjoy a joyful evening in between the rows of stupas. Borobudur is also the largest Buddhist temple in the world, located in the Borobudur village, Magelang Regency, and was subsequently listed in 1991 as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Mr. Moh Ichsan, Mr. Arisman, Ms. Anna and Mr. Budi some boards of PMI Indonesia Chapter together with the Director of Project Management Institute from USA Dr William Moylan and PMI Manager Chapter Development Asia Pacific Ms. Sohyun Kang and Mr. William Boivin had a chance to enjoy the exotic dinner at Manohara Restaurant just exactly behind the temple. A lot of tasty and tempting food served for the dinner. ‘Gending Jawa’ also enlightened the atmosphere of the dinner. Ms SoHyun from Korea seemed love Indonesia traditional food, it was looked by how she knew most Indonesian food and recommended everyone to try ‘ayam bakar’ that became the most favorite food for everyone at that night and everyone loved it. Traditional dance from java as a closing performance successfully attracted our attention and the dinner became joyful experience for everyone.
