GreenPeace & NL Consumer Union measure performance of electricity producers & traders Essent en E.ON verkopen weliswaar groene stroom, maar investeren intussen ouderwets in kolencentrales. Hiermee blokkeren zij de overgang naar een schone, veilige energiehuishouding. Andere bedrijven, zoals Oxxio en Nederlandse Energie Maatschappij, zeggen 100 procent groene stroom te leveren en laten klanten denken dat ze goed bezig zijn. Maar in de praktijk blijkt dat deze bedrijven helemaal niet bijdragen aan de vergroting van de hoeveelheid groene stroom die geproduceerd wordt. Ze kopen stroom in via de handelsmarkt en ‘vergroenen’ de stroom met goedkope certificaten van waterkrachtcentrales uit Noorwegen.
