In 1968, the founders of the Biennale Interieur introduced an innovative model which defined design as a commercial as well as a cultural entity, to be enjoyed by a broad audience of professionals and design enthusiasts alike. Today, the Interieur format stands out in the crowded landscape of trade fairs and exhibitions. Its two-yearly rhythm allows for time to digest evolutions and to create noteworthy concepts driven by the vision of each edition’s newly appointed curator.
With its status of a non-profit organisation, the Biennale Interieur is unlike other trade fairs. Its concept and priorities differ from the traditional format. Interieur is able to guarantee a qualitative selection, diversify the range, activate avant-garde models and appoint committees to help guide and advise the team to guarantee the most relevant representation of the contemporary design scene.

The results of the exhibitor questionnaire indicate that 85% of respondents judged their participation to be satisfactory to excellent. 90% said they achieved their objectives, 80% expressed satisfaction with the quality of the audience, and 30% immediately confirmed their intention to return in 2014.
Uit de exposantenenquête blijkt dat 85% van de respondenten hun deelname algemeen als voldoende tot excellent beoordelen. 90% zegt zijn objectieven te hebben gehaald, 80% is tevreden over de kwaliteit van de bezoekers en 30% geeft aan zeker terug deel te nemen in 2014.

The Biennale Interieur sets itself apart with an outstanding context in which exhibitors can present brands and values.

During Interieur 2012, the 40.000 m2 exhibition halls of Kortrijk Xpo were transformedinto a DesignCity. Its ‘streets’ were lined with a considered display of commercial stands, while diagonals were reserved for specially curated exhibitions. The central piazzas in each of the halls became lively meeting places with installations by international designers, artists and architects and a selection of custom-designed bars.
The exhibition layout of INTERIEUR 2014 will continue to focus on creating an elegant and qualitative setting, with improved navigation, to offer visitors an inspiring place to discover and experience design: a landmark in the world of fairs!
Op 40,000 m2 tentoonstellingsoppervlakte van Kortrijk Xpo werd een DesignCity in scène gezet. Straten waren gevuld met zorgvuldig gepositioneerde commerciële standen, diagonale lanen waren gereserveerd voor speciale tentoonstellingen en de centrale piazza’s in de hallen waren levendige ontmoetingsplaatsen met speciaal ontworpen bars en installaties van internationale ontwerpers, kunstenaars en architecten.
Het uitgangspunt van de tentoonstellingslayout is de creatie van een helder, esthetisch en elegant plan met verbeterde navigatie. Het wordt een inspirerende plaats waar bezoekers design kunnen ontdekken en beleven: een unicum in de wereld van beurzen!
The custom-designed Interieur bars will be the subject of the ‘Spaces’ category of the Interieur Awards 2014. Designers can team up with supporting brands and five winning designs will be executed at Kortrijk Xpo, a new opportunity for great visibility in front of our large audience. A SERVICE ORIENTED APPROACH
Digital services: Create Leads & Reduce Costs Interieur 2012 saw the introduction of digital Interieur Cards and scan stations at registration, entry and stands, facilitating swift information exchange of brand information and contact details between exhibitors and visitors. The service also proved to be a tool for cost reduction in terms of catalogue printing. For 2014, Interieur will improve and expand the innovative digital services.

Shuttle Service
The services and bespoke visitor packages organised by our travel partner Seauton facilitated the presence of international professional visitors, buyers, influencers and press.
The introduction of a shuttle service in partnership with Audi was a greatly appreciated new service linking Kortrijk Xpo and Kortrijk city, which ensured an uninterrupted day & night Biennale experience.
De diensten en de op maat gemaakte bezoekerspackages die verzorgd werden door onze travel partner Seauton, faciliteerden de aanwezigheid van internationale professionele bezoekers, aankopers, opiniemakers en journalisten.

DESIGNCITY
2012 A new approach The 23rd Biennale Interieur expanded into the cultural heart of Kortrijk city. Together with the Kortrijk Xpo venue, the new city locations created a temporary DesignCity, showcasing avant-garde designers, innovative exhibitions and custom-created installations. The injection of city-life extended the Biennale experience and allowed for moments of encounter beyond the usual opening hours and borders of a fair. The Interieur Bistro proved to be the hot ticket in town, a busy meeting place for business and pleasure.
De 23e Biennale Interieur breidde uit naar de stad Kortrijk. Samen met de hallen van Kortrijk Xpo vormden de nieuwe stadslocaties een tijdelijke DesignCity met plaats voor avant-garde designers, innovatieve tentoonstellingen en speciaal ontworpen installaties. Het stadsluik verlengde de Biënnalebeleving en liet ontmoetingsmomenten toe die konden plaatsvinden buiten de typische uren en beperkingen van een beurs. De Interieur Bistro was dé plaats van afspraak in de stad.

International guests A longstanding tradition of Interieur is to offer a podium for the vision of 1 guest of honour, to complement the commercial backbone of the Biennale. In 2012, under the curatorial direction of Lowie Vermeersch, 7 groundbreaking designers, artists and architects were invited to create installations, put on display thoughout Kortrijk Xpo en Kortrijk city.
De Biënnale Interieur heeft een lange traditie in het uitnodigen van een eregast als cultureel tegenwicht voor de commerciële ruggengraat van de Biënnale. Ventura Interieur, a partnership with the Dutch team Organisation in Design, brought a selection of 70 emerging brands, designers and institutions to Interieur 2012. This new independent exhibition platform for the avant-garde is committed to created interactions between cultural and commercial fields.

programme biennale interieur 2014 The Biennale INTERIEUR 2014 will return to a 10-day programme, starting with the opening day on Friday October 17th reserved for design professionals, followed by a festive opening weekend. The ‘industry days’ will take place on Monday 20th and Tuesday 21st October 2014 and feature a varied programme aimed especially at design industry professionals.

01 02 01 _ Deltalight illuminated several custom-designed Interieur bars. 02 _ The Interieur Bistro was a hybrid of a restaurant and an exhibition. It came to life with an eclectic mix of 200 different chairs, over 20 tables and 100 suspended lamps provided by Interieur exhibitors.

The selection committee led by the curator selects the brands/exhibitors conform to the rules outlined in the application booklet. Important selection criteria include quality, product innovation, stand concept and product presentation.

The Biennale INTERIEUR 2014 introduces new stand options for exhibitors, amongst them equipped units with basic infrastructure. These stands will be grouped in clusters located though out the halls at Kortrijk Xpo. Exhibitors opting for these inclusive packages will be free to concentrate on their actual product presentation, rather than having to deal with the organisation and logistics of building a stand. De Biënnale INTERIEUR 2014 introduceert nieuwe opties voor exposanten waaronder standen met basisinfrastructuur. Deze standen zullen gegroepeerd worden in clusters die over de verschillende hallen van Kortrijk Xpo verspreid worden. Exposanten die voor dit nieuwe pakket kiezen kunnen zich concentreren op hun eigenlijke productpresentatie en kunnen de organisatorische en logistieke beslommeringen die komen kijken bij het bouwen van een stand achterwege laten. Exposanten kunnen kiezen uit vooropgestelde groottes en een voorkeur aangeven voor de configuratie van de stand.*
