Of iets anders …
EN On the 4th of September 1995, P.A.R.T.S. opened its doors to a first generation of dance students. Over the years, more than 400 dancers and choreographers have studied at P.A.R.T.S. Ten generations of students – from every corner of the world – have finished the entire trajectory: initially three years, later on four years, and five years from the present 11th generation onwards. We have asked three generations of graduated students to put together an evening. Each generation is free to determine the contents of the programme: existing or new work, re-enactments of old P.A.R.T.S.-formats or improvisations, impromptu, live or through projected images. A bridge between what was and what is. Or something else altogether. Generations Nine (who studied from 2008 till 2012), Six (2002-2006) and One (1995-1998) have received a carte blanche. Each evening is coordinated by an artist duo from the generation in question.

The silent song (2013) Video: Pauline Fosny Performers: Sue-Yeon Youn, Liza Penkova The work on the project The Silent song by Sue Yeon Youn and Liza Penkova started some years ago with an intention to last through out a life. Friends and colleagues since 2005, Youn and Penkova have been continuously working/ collaborating in-between the professional and private. The wish to work together is very similar to the wish of two friends to share their view on life, work, love and other daily matters as the life and time goes. Therefore the intention is to sustain, to keep alive this work until their very old age, that hypothetically has been defined around 86 years old. The idea started with a simple practice of long backwards walks in a park. The backwards walking puts one into another awareness, a state that is normally hard to achieve in the daily life. A concentration, a sensitivity enabling one to de-construct the environment in several layers. This brought them further into defining a practice that they could share together, a one hour long task-based improvisation that they could execute no matter the environment around them: a closed room, a studio, a train, a station etc... no matter the age. The purpose might be the desire to re-look, re-discover, de-construct through a long stretch of time (52 years to go) the components of the world with all its given and pre-decided names to sensations, to objects and to coordinates. A process that might look like a naive approach of a child who looks for answers in all, while at the same time it becomes a serious research, demanding a strong focus and concentration, while uncovering the layers and textures of colours, of emotions, of sounds in all that what we seem to take for granted, in all that we seem to think we understand. Finally, The Silent song is a creation in silence while all else is passing by. Like a creation of a song that, through time, takes shape of a melody with rhythm lyrics and echo. To allow some insight into their process, they decided to invite a videoartist (Pauline Fonsny) to follow their work during two days. Without giving her any indications besides accepting her presence, Pauline was able to capture some moments, details through her lens. A glimpse into a beginning of a 52 year long process.
