3 The Jungle Book Read the passage from The Jungle Book. Match each underlined word with its meaning.

6. How to grow bean sprouts If you like fresh peas and salads you’ll like bean sprouts. All bean sprouts have some protein. Like oranges and lemons, they have lots of Vitamin C, and they have other important vitamins and minerals too. Put the descriptions with the right pictures.

a. Rinse the beans twice a day – or more. After rinsing, leave the beans to drain for about half an hour.
b. Drain the beans and put them in a clean jar.
c. Take 1-2 tablespoons of beans. Throw away any broken beans, sticks or stones. d. When the bean sprouts are long enough, rinse and drain them. Then you can eat them or put them in the fridge. Don’t keep them for too long. e. Cut a piece from some old clean tights. Put it over the top of the jar and hold it in place with a rubber band.
f. The bean sprouts usually start to grow after one or two days. When this happens, throw away any beans that aren’t growing – and any that are bad.
g. Always be careful with bean sprouts – broken bean sprouts can die or go bad. h. Keep the beans in a dark warm place – a temperature of about 20-24°is best. i. Rinse the beans. j. Put the beans in a bowl with plenty of water. Leave for 12 hours.
