versterker A en een kethodestreel-indicator I. De wiuselspenning van 1000 Hz wordt geleverd door de oscillator CIM 4260, d die met de klemmen K, en K, op de me.etbrug wordt aangesloten. Deze oscillator is bestarnd voor netvoeding. Is 818 stroombron oen accu oonwozig, dan moot tus80n do oocu en oscillator nog een Philips trilleromvormer CM 4226 vrorden geschakeld, welke wisselspenning ven 250 V eon de oscillator levert. De dompelcel wordt in het wetermonoter geplaatst. Het echo-lood is een Instrument, d e t korte geluidsimpulsen uitzendt venaf de k i e l van een schip. Het beponldt d e t i j d , d i e d e d u t w u i t voortkomende echo k i e l t e doorlopen en g e e f t deze tijdmenodig h e e f t om d e ofstand: zeebodem t i n g weer i n d e vorm ven een dieptemeting. De mechanische opzet v e r i e e r t b i j de verschillende aoorten instrumenten aanzienlijk. Fig. 1 geeft een typische echolood-installatie aun. Een electro-motor ( i )d r i j f t door m i d d e l van d e tandwieloverbrenging ( A ) d e trommel ( 8 ) aan, Atin deze trommel is de penarm ( C ) en een mintol schekel a a r s en eleepringen bevestigd. U i t betekent d a t de pen zich over een g r o t e r e breedte van het papier h e e f t verplsutst,, vóordat r e g i a t r e t i e p l e e t 8 heert. De ontvangen echo's'geven dus de contour ven de bodem weer op het papier. De beweging ven h e t papier I s een r e c h t l i j n i g e t r a n s l a t i e en wordt veroorzaakt äoor de r o l l e n (R), De i n r i c h t i n g i s meestal zodanig d a t BBn papierrol voldoende is voor 1.5 bedrijfauren. De snelheid wearmee h e t papier wordt afgerold en de vaarsnelheid ven het bepeien de sohasil wearop d e door h e t schip afgelegde afstanden worden geregistreerd. Deze z i j n op hun beurt d e oorzaak van een magnetisch wisselveld, d a t t e n s l o t t e een, ZIJ h e t zeer l a g e , wisselspanning i n de apoel doet optreden. Deze wisdelspanning wordt op d e id$engstransformator van de versterker (GI gedrukt. Na belangrijk v e r s t e r k t t e z i j n (max. 1 O00 000 m n i i l i wordt deze wiedeloponning, g e l i j k g e r i c h t , naer de schrijfpen gevoerd.

Onderdrukking van het beginsignaal. Onder i d e a l e Omstandigheden zullen a l l e inkomende signalen, van d e resonantiefrequentie, welke i n d e ontvanger worden ontwikkeld, afkomstig z i j n van d e door d e r i v i e r - o f zeebodem teruggekaatste echo. D i t i d e a a l kon e c h t e r n i e t a l t i j d worden gerealiseerd. Uen zekere hoeveelheid geluidsenergie, door do zendoscillator geproduceerd, z a l v i a d e ruimte t u s s e n de p r o jectoren, de ontvang-oscillator d i r e c t bere iken ( d u s zonder d e afstand : kiel bodem k i c l t e hebben afgelegd). Dat verachijnae1,"directe ontvangst" genaamd, i a vooral h i n d e r l i j k , wanneer men zeer k l e l n u d i o p t e n p e i l t . Dan t o c h keert de echo na een zeer k l e i n t i j d s i n t e r v a l terug na h u t t i j d s t i p van zenden. (B.V. p e i l t men 0,jO m diep, dan b e r e i k t da echo 1/2400 sec na het t i j d s t i a van zenden de ontvsng-oscillator). Het is den ook een dwingende e i s , d e versterker v r i j t e houden van aignelen andere den d e echo. Men b e r e i k t dit door gedurende h e t t i j d a i n t e r v a l , dat " d i r e c t e ontvangst'* optreedt, de gevoeii(gheid ven d e versterker d r a s t i s c h t e reduceren en wel door do negatieve roostervÓ6rspenning van één d e r versterkerbuizen op t e voeren. Is de amplitude van het d i r e c t e ontvangstsignaril voldoende afgenomen, dan voert men de gevoeligheid ven de versterker weer op, zodat dan het echosignaal volüoende versterkt op h e t r e g i s t r a t i e p a p i e r doorkomt. De electramotor is een shuntmotor, met eon vermogen von 1/65 pk. u i j een a a n t a l omwentelingen van de motor van 2tiUO/min. kan de achrijfpen er 9 0 of 250 doen. I n serie met de veldwikkeling ven de motor is eon weerstand geschakeld; deze weerstand i n aangesloten op de klemmen van een regulateur.

De regulateur h e e f t t o t taak : de anelheid van d e motor conatant t e houden b i j g r o t e schommelingon i n d e hoofdvoedingsspcinning. b. d e snelheid van de motor t e wijzigen ( e n dus ook d i e van d e s c h r i j f p e n i , wanneer d t t vereist wordt door een verandering ven de geluidssnelheid i n h e t water. Ue draaiing van de motor verooraeakt o.a. een centrifugaalkracht op onderdelen van d e regulateur en zodoende tevens oen drukking op een koper-koolcontaot. Een d e r g e l i j k contact h e e f t i n eterke mate de eigenachap,dat do overgangsweerstand erven v a r i e e r t met de drukking, d i e d e contactstukben op e l k a a r uitoefonen. De weeratand, d i e in s e r i e l i g t met de y e l d w i k k e l i n g van de motor, kan nu i n meerdere of mindere mate door het koper-kooloontaot worden overbrugd. Nu g e l d t voor een shunt-notor binnen zekere grenzen : a. toenening ven d e Veldstroom: a f n m i n g omwentelingssnelheid, b. afneming ven de velcîstroom: toaneming omwentelingssnelheid. V e r i a t i e s i n d e overgangsweerstand hebben nu de onder a en b genoemde gevolgen. Bij een bepaalde I n s t e l l i n g van h e t koper-koolcontect houdt d e regulateur d e snelheid dus constant en door wijziging ven deze i n s t e l l i n g kan men de snelheid van de motor i n beperkte mate varieren. a.

De e l e c t r i a c h e energie, bestemd voor de zend-oscillator wordt gevormd door de hoofdvoeding-gelijkspanning van 36 Volt d.m.v. een v i b r a t o r om t e vormen t o t eon wisnelspanning. Deze spanning wordt dan omhoog petransformeerd (350 È 400 V o l t ) , g e l i j k g e r i c h t , en l a a d t dan d e zgn. zend-condensator op. Via een electsioch r e l a i s , d a t gestuurâ wordt door d e zendcontwten i 1 1 h b t r e g i s t r a t i e apparaat, wordt de energie van de zend-oondbnsator op d e spoel i n d e zendo s c i l l a t o r gedrukt. Behalve de hoofdstroombron en een roterende omvormer heeft men bib dit toestel nog nodig : een acoumulntor, een anode-batterij, een roostersyanning-batterij en een batterij voor de meterlijnen. Het ijken van de echopeiltoestellen van Hughee heeft els uitgangspunt een constant enntel omwentelingen van de mot& van 2800 toeren per minuut bij oen gemiddelde geïuidssneìheld in weter van 1500 m/sec. Door het aantal omwentelingen van de motor ts wijzigen kan de gebruiker het toestel zodanig instellen, dat het nog de juiste diepte aapwijat, ondanks pen verandering in de voortplantingssne~eldvan het geluld In water ten govolge van 8en verandering in temperatuur en chloorgehalte tijdens het pellen, en wel door toeFasaing van de VOlgEndB formule v = 1410,+ 4,21 t 0,037 t2 + 1,14 2 (zie fig. 3ì waarin v voortplantin&ssnelhoid in m/sec. t temperatuur in Oc. 2 chloorgehalte in mg/liter. In het l a a t s t e geval rnoet de p l a a t s ven d e r a a i dan nog met één van d e g e b r u i k e l i j k e methoden van de geodesie worden ingemeten. H e t echo-lood t o e s t e l is meestal. opgesteld aan boord van een vlet. De p l s a t s van d e o a o i l l o t o r e n op deze Vlet wordt anngeduid door een mast, d i e voor een goede z i c h t b a a r h e i d is gemerkt met afwisselend w i t t e en zwarte strepen. De a f s t a n d i n de r a a i van deze mast t o t een'íngemetan vast punt aen de wal kan worden bepaald met behulp van o p t i s c h e afstand8meters. Voor nauwkeurige metingen geschiedt deze afstendsbepaline! om de 10 m. 'Telkens wanneer d e waarnemer met d e afstandsmetor z i e t , d a t d e mast z i c h weer 1 0 m i n d e r a u i v e r p l a n t s t h e e f t , g e e f t een tweede waarnemer een signoe1 met een'vlag on op h e t z e l f d e moment drukt een derde waernemer op het sch,ip een knop van h e t echo-lood i n waardoor a s n doorlopende s t r e e p op h e t r e g i s t r a t i e - p a p i e r v e r s c h i j n t ; zodoende wordt e l k i n t e r v a l van 10 p1 g e r e g i s t r e e r d .
