Y SOFT MY TEACHER TOLD ME
MATERIÁLY PRO UČITELE
I hated the school. It was really nothing what I wanted to do. I remember a story when my teacher told me: “Muchna, do you really believe that typing to keyboard will let you survive?” and that was, you know, their attitude. Their attitude was – typing to (a) keyboard is a work for assistant, you know, and electronics that´s the key thing but my father, he led me to programming from my, I don´t know, seven, eight years old, so I started very soon with, you know, small stupid things like drawing a small house on a screen, really, these basics. So when I came to the school, to high school in 1994, 14 years old, I was already able to do some basic programming. And then I met with this attitude so it was like, we really haven´t been good friends. I passed the school some way, I even don´t understand how, they probably neither. And then I went to university. First of all, nobody including me believed that I was able to get to the university, pass the exams. But somehow, anyway, I don´t remember and I don´t even understand how I did that, but I´ve done that and I passed the exams to Masaryk University, Faculty of Informatics. And that was the thing which led me to Brno. The reason was that at that time there were no software-oriented schools. The closest one (was) Faculty of Mathematics in Prague. But that was Faculty of Mathematics and one small part of this faculty was just about programming. But this Faculty of Informatics here in Brno was really Faculty of Informatics, software, and then you have subsequent lot of things to do. So, that´s why I came to Brno and that´s what took me here. So, I started my studies and regarding the beginning, I remember it like it would be today, 10 years ago, more than that – 12 years ago, I needed some cash, you know. Parents didn´t feed me enough, it was good just for dormitory and basic living but I needed something more. So the time has come to do some work for living, too. And the first thing I took was a temporary job in Makro, that´s a wholesale store. And I was moving, shifting, waters, you know, cans of water during the night. The session started like 6 p.m., maybe 8 p.m., we ended like 6 a.m. in the morning. And the salary for that was 35 Czech crowns per one hour. That equals something roughly around 7000, OK, for month. I was able to do that for two and half days, or three days and after that I realized that hard work, or work with my hands wouldn´t be something to do for living. And after that I started to think: ”OK, you´re programming (have been programming) for couple of years already, why don´t you try to use this?” I tried that and it worked. The first thing was that…, my personal problem is …, I had and probably I still do have problem with authorities. So, for me it was not acceptable to be employed, so I started like a freelancer and I was doing this for two years and after that we established Y Soft company in year 2000 and… well, that was my background. Provided that, I didn´t finish the school. After three years I quit because the business went up and the opportunity from the business environment for me was simple – it was calling, it called me from the school.
