„Welcome to microregion Mikulov“ In the warmiest part of the Czech Republic there is situated region full of natural beauties, valuable historical monuments, living traditions and hospitable people. The vineyards, rows of wine, wine-cellars and wine itself are beyond despute part of your walks through the Mikulov region. According to archeological discoveries is presumed, the wine tradition in Moravia dates back to Roman legionary times in the 3rd century AD and the very first vineyard appeared right here at the foothill of Palava heights.
Wine Region Moravia The Wine Region Moravia is highly promising for the production of white wines that combine an interesting spectrum of scents complemented by typical spiciness, which do full justice to the raw material emanating from the fertile Moravian soil. Lately the character of red Wines has changed under the influence of applied modern technology, which endows them with greater suppleness. The picturesque landscape of the southern Moravian region together with the unique natural growing conditions endow its wines with a specific identity.
The Mikulov wine sub-region – surface 4500 ha This sub-region is characterised by the limestone elevation of the Pavlov heights (the last outcrop of the limestone Alps), which are not only beautiful, but mainly they allow wine to ripen wonderfully. The most significant variety of wine is Welschrieslink, which ripens to a very high quality with an uninterchangeable character. Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Riesling (Rheinriesling), Palava and Aurelius also give of an excellent quality here. Saint Laurent and Lemberger are the most commonly grown blue varieties here.
The Velke Pavlovice wine sub-region – surface 4750 ha In the central part of the region one finds soils of limestone loam, marl, sandstone and conglomerate rock, which allows for growing of blue varieties such are Blue Portugal or Saint Laurent. In the northern part of this sub-region thrive white varieties – Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer, Neuburger or Sauvignon. The Slovácko wine sub-region – surface 4400 ha Slovácko lies in the south-east of Moravia and has very heterogeneous natural growing conditions – thus giving wines that burst forth with varietal character. The varieties that fare best here are Müller-Thurgau, Grüner Veltliner, Riesling (Rheinriesling), Pinot Blanc, Lemberger. The Znojmo wine sub-region - surface 3800 ha Znojmo is a region of white aromatic wine – Müller-Thurgau, Sauvignon. The nothern part of this area and its stony soil is excellent for the cultivation of Riesling (Rheinriesling), Grüner Veltliner and even for black varieties, above all Lemberger.
