Radiografi panoramik dapat digunakan untuk melihat dan mendeteksimanifestasi penyakit sistemik pada rongga mulut, seperti osteoporosis. Osteoporosis adalah penyakittulang paling umum pada orang dewasa, terutama pada wanita pascamenopause. Gold standard untukmendeteksi osteoporosis hingga saat ini adalah teknik DXA, namun mental indeks sebagai salah satuindeks radiografi panoramik telah dikembangkan untuk mendeteksi osteoporosis. Mental indeks adalahketebalan kortikal mandibula rata-rata dihitung secara bilateral pada radiografi panoramik di daerah dibawah foramen mentale. Tujuan. Mengetahui sensitivitas, spesifisitas, dan akurasi mental indeks padaradiografi panoramik dalam mendeteksi osteoporosis pada wanita pascamenopause. Metode. Subjekpenelitian ini adalah 18 orang yang menderita osteoporosis dan 18 orang yang tidak osteoporosis, yangdidapatkan dari pemeriksaan DXA. Foto panoramik dilakukan pada subjek tersebut, kemudian dilakukanpengukuran mental indeks pada hasil radiografi panoramik. Hasil Pengukuran mental indeks padaradiografi panoramik wanita pascamenopause menghasilkan sensitivitas sebesar 83%, spesifisitas 67%,dan akurasi 75%. Simpulan. Pengukuran mental indeks terhadap wanita pascamenopause yangmenderita osteoporosis efektif sehingga mental indeks dapat digunakan sebagai indikator awal untukmendeteksi osteoporosis. Background. Panoramic radiograph can be used to see and detect the systemic manifestation inmouth, such as osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a bone disease which is often happened in adults, especiallyin postmenopausal women. Gold standard for detecting osteoporosis until now is DXA technique, butmental index as one of panoramic radiograph index has been developed to detect osteoporosis. Mentalindex is the mandible cortical width which is measured bilaterally at the site of mental foramen onpanoramic radiograph. Purpose. To know the sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of mental index onpanoramic radiograph for detecting osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. Method. Experimentalsubjects were 18 osteoporotic females and 18 non-osteoporotic females as the results of DXAexamination. Panoramic radiographs were obtained from those subjects, then the measurement of mentalindex on panoramic radiograph was done. Result. The measurements of mental index on panoramicradiograph of postmenopausal women yield sensitivity 83%, specificity 67%, and accuracy 75%.Conclusion. The measurement of mental index for osteoporotic postmenopausal women is effective, so itis able to use as the early indicator for diagnosing osteoporosis.
