Arjunani, MM Keywords: Love, Novel, Pesan Dari Nam This study is conducted to analyze the literature importance especially about the type of love in Pesan Dari Nam by Daniel Steel. The writer hoped to analyze and describe about love and the type of love in this novel clearly. In this cases, the writer uses Sternberg (1988 ) theory known as the Triangular Theory of Love to analyses about love and the types of love in Pesan Dari Nam novel by Daniel Steel. The writer uses descriptive qualitative method to analyze this study in Pesan Dari Nam novel. The writer looks for, complets, analyzes, describes and interprets the statements that explain and describes about love story between Paxton Andrews and her boyfriend in Pesan dari Nam by Daniel Steel and then the writer making summarize from that statements. Pesan Dari Nam by Daniel Steel is a literature work bears that love story themes inside. The story of this novel is about the woman journalist, Paxton Andrews who loses her love in war of Nam. As a journalist in Nam war, Paxton is not only tries to fight the war for herself and her love but she fights the war for all of the people in this world by her write. Love theme choosen by the writer. One of the reasons is the literature that has a love theme always becomes an interest public topic. The writer wants to give some love information to the reader. The other sides, there are many positive things here such as moral value, spiritual, nationalism, heroic, and so on. All the positive things can be a lesson to applied to the reality human live.

PREFACE I would like to thank to Allah that give God’s mercy to us until we can finished this thesis. This thesis explains about love and the type of love in Pesan Dari Nam novel by Daniel Steel. The purpose of this thesis is in order submitted in apartial fulfillmant of the requiremants for the sarjana degree in English Department and the writer wants to give some love information to the reader that can be a lesson to apply in reality human live. CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION A. Background of Study Literature in etymologically comes from Latin; literature the means of writing formed with letters. Literature has many roles function in many sides such as social, society, education, phsicology. The role function of literature in social is introduces us to new world experiences because literature represents a language or a people. In society, literature tells the story of the society itself and also helps develop cultural trend and tradition by showing various activities in every region. In education, literature helps the students how to write well, how to learn the art and so on. Literature separates in two branch; finction and non fiction and separates into two major branch; poetry and prose. One of the prose kinds is novel. Novel is a long fictional prose narrative. It was the forms that close relation to the real life. Novel always relates to the two elements; intrinsic and extrinsic. The extrinsic element is an element that came from novel outside such as the biography of the writer, politic, religion. The instrinsic element is an element that came from novel inside such as plot, theme, setting, character. Talking about theme of the novel, there are many kinds of theme in novel. But the most favourit novel theme is about love. Recently, there are many love novel published in this world. One of them is Pesan Dari Nam by Daniel Steel.

Pesan Dari Nam by Daniel Steel is a literature work bears that love story themes inside. The story of this novel is about the woman journalist, Paxton Andrews who loses her love in war of Nam. Daniel Steel was not only drawn the feel of love in this story. But she combined any emotional feel, romantic, happy, sad, hate, strained situation of the war. Based on this interest story the writer wants to explain the love story and the types of the main character love. Why does the writer want to choose about love here? Because love is an abstract feel that can not to separated from the human live. Since a child the man have been learned about love; the love of parents, friends, ourselves, God, and so on. In every human daily activity will be connected with love because love will always be there in every live aspect, including literature. Almost all of literature has a love topic story. There are many famous writer of literature in the world always inserts about love story in every their story written. Whatever themes of literature, the love story always be there although just a little bit. One the reason is love usually becomes an interest public topic. So, we can imagine if a literature didn’t have a love story inside! Is it so bore, right? Talking about love, actually we have to know what love is and what types of love is. There are many different opinions about the definition of love because love is related with the individual and personal character. When there are ten people speak about the definition of love, there will be ten opinions about the definition of love too based on experiences of different people.

Love is universal where everyone has been felt it. Love is a strong emotion that makes interest feels to the people. The other opinion said that love is an active action that people do to another object like the object wants. Love is a feeling of sympathy which involves deep emotion. Love is abstract. Love is only able to feel but anyone didn’t know about the concrete shape of love. For example, when the people met someone else and they fallen in love with that someone, they only can to felt the taste of that love in their mind and heart without knew the concrete shape of love. Is it big or small? Or is it Black or white? In fact, we will answer that we didn’t know about it because love can not to see by our eyes but it only able to feel. Although there are various definitions of love, but no one is perfect or complete definition can encompass the entire meaning of love itself. According to Sternberg ( in Sternberg & Barnes , 1988) , love is not a single entity , but rather a combination of various feelings , desires , and thoughts that occur simultaneously resulting in a global feeling called love. In this case, the writer uses three love theories to analyse love and the types of love in Pesan Dari Nam novel based on the three theories among Sternberg (1988 ) has a theory known as the Triangular Theory of Love, Jhon Allan Lee with theory known as Six Colors of Love and last is Abraham Maslow with the theory known as two poles of love. The theories mentioned above are the most famous love theories in the world. By using those theories, the writer wants to make a perfect written that explained and described about love here especially about the types of love in Pesan Dari Nam by Daniel Steel.

By doing this, the writer wants to give some love information to the reader. The other sides, there are many positive things here such as moral value, spiritual, nationalism, heroic, and so on. All the positive things can be a lesson to applied to the reality human live. The important thing is by reading this, the writer hopes that the reader can starts to analyses what type of the reader love is. It will be important to do because if we know what type of our love is, we can to know the character of our love and our couple, how deep our love is, how we can make the best action to our couple with their different character, how to manage the love conflict easier, how to make our relation to be the best condition and so on.
B. Statements of the Problem Based on the Background of study, finally the writer found the statements of the problems that can be analyzed such as: What is type of love that occurred between Paxton Andrews and her boyfriend in Pesan dari Nam by Daniel Steel?

CHAPTER II THE REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
In this chapter the writer used some theories that include to analysis about love such as love theory that include about the definition of love and the types of love. A.
Theories of Love “Love is “happening“something that is often not planning or expecting of
even intending.’’ ( Brennecke and Amick, 1978 : 36 ). According to this, love is a feeling that able to happen suddenly without a plan before and it is able to happen wherever and whenever. There are a lot of feel inside love such as big responsible and a lot of care. Like Brennecke and Amick said that Love involves levels of consciousness, self developmant, emotional freedom, personal and social responsibility, tolerance, physical awareness and acceptance, knowledge, and much-much caring. According to C.G Boefree , ‘’Love is a feeling of care, sympathy and empathy to the ones else.’’. How much our love are as much as our feel to care, sympathy and empathy to the ones else. The care, sympathy and empathy can be a power of spiritual to do anything to make our couple feel happy. Abraham Maslow takes the love as a one of the human need. Moreover, love is important as house, food and drink, healthy, knowledge and freedom. Love has a poll position in its step. It means that love considers as an urgent thing to create a good condition of human.

According to that theories mention above, love is a deep heart feeling that includes self developmant, emotional freedom, personal and social responsibility, tolerance, physical awareness and acceptance, knowledge, caring, sympathy and empathy. Love is the highest position something that human need in life. B.
The Origin of Love Where does the love come from? This question always there in every
person who are falling in love. People said that love come from the first sight and then get down to the feel of heart. But, there are many theories about the origin of love in this world. And almost the knowledge can give the answer about the origin of love such as: 1. Action Theory Love come from the positive action power that occurred inside person by the live experiences. The person feels that those something are happy, positive, true or excellent and happen simultaneously and finally the brain will record, remain, and write that those something is love. 2. Cognitive Theory In this theory, love is only the part of perceptions. Love is not as the relation feedback between each individual. Love will come from our perceptions, statements, and think that we love something. If we don’t think that we love something, so we never do any action without there are feedbacks of that something. 3. Evolution Theory

This theory learns to the human to make some evolution. Love come from of human natural need such as protection, comfortable, proliferate, reproduction, continue our genetic. All of them are the natural ancient elemants inside of human because in this theory love is everything that related with human need to continue the thoroughbred human. 4. Biology Theory Love is a biological process that occurred inside the human. There is an essence in every human or animals call as feromon. Feromon produces by hipotamalus. The feromon makes the person has a desire to the couple. When the feromon was out, there was a desire to make a relation serious commitment. The other word is the feromon in one person body attract to the feromon in the other person. It is related to the couple. It is not about the mind, feel, habitual but it just about the attraction of one feromon to the other feromon.

Types of Love There are many types of love that explained by the love scientist. In this
chapter the writer will describing the three theories of love among the Stenberg’s theory known as Triangular Theory of Love, Jhon Allan Lee’s theory known as Six Colors of Love and the last is Abraham Maslow with the theory known as two poles of love. 1. Triangular Theory of Love by Stenberg Sternberg (1988 ) has a theory known as the love triangle theory of love ( The Triangular Theory of Love ) . In theory that Sternberg characterizes love

consists of three components , intimacy, passion, decision or commitment (decision / commitment) . Intimacy is a relationship feeling that enhances of closeness, attachmant , and relationship or in other words that implies intimacy as affective elemants that encourage people to always do the emotional closeness with loved ones. The Intimacy couples who have a very high attention to elemants of a warm relationship, closeness , safety , tranquility , comfort , confidence . Passion includes a sense of deep longing to be united with loved ones is an expression of desire and sexual needs or in other words that passion is a physiological and biological elemants that cause a person to feel like physically close , enjoy or feel the physical touch , or sexual intercourse with their couple . Decision or commitment is a person's determination to persist with something or someone until the end. In other words, the commitment is often interpreted as a decision to stay with a partner in our life. Commitment is also an elemant that related to cognitive considerations such as reliability, intelligence, skills, personality. Stenberg said that the ideal love conditions would be created if the three components are balanced until the sides of triangle have been made According to that three elemants in Triangular Theory of Love, Stenberg also create the 8 types of love are Non love, Liking , Infatuation , Empty love , Romantic love , Companionate love, Fatuous love and the last is Consummate love. 1.
Non Love

There is no intimacy, passion or commitment that occurred in this love type. You don’t interest with the physically, didn’t have a closeness and you didn’t understand what the positive thing that able to look in the couple until you need to closer with the couple. 2.
Liking there is only intimacy elemants in this type. The relationship of this type
usually occurs of the friendship without a commitment or decision to make a special relationship. 3.
Infatuation The blind love is the other name of this type. Why is it call like that? The
reason is there is only passion elemant in this type. The reason of someone can be felt in love with ones else is interest physically without special experience relations. Generally, this type can be occurred to someone who feels the first love sight. 4.
Empty love There is only a commitment elemant in this type. So, the couple of this type
just have any importance and commitments without a passion and intimacy. People said the relations of this type like a desert. 5.
Romantic love Intimacy and passion are elemants of this type. You feel interest from the
physically to the one else and he feel confidence. But, unfortunately there isn’t a commitment elemant in this type. 6.
Companionate love

The combination between intimacy and commitment elemants where you feel get some profits to commitment and emotional closeness, but you don’t interest from the physically. 7.
Fatuous love The combination between passion and commitment elemants where you
agree to commit with one else because you get some profits and you feel interest of the physically but there is not emotion closeness. 8.
Consummate love The other name of this type is perfect love. The Elemants among passion ,
intimacy and commitment are completed in this type. You able to feel interest from the physically, emotional closeness and you want to make a sure commitment with your couple. Everybody wants this love type.
2. Six Colors of Love theory by Jhon Allan Lee Jhon Allan Lee find the different type of love. According him, love divided into two priority part; Primary love and Secondary love. The Primary love has three elemants. They are Eros , Ludus and Storge. The Secondary love has three kinds love combination. They are Mania ( the combination between Eros and Ludus ) , Pragma ( the combination between Ludus and Storge ) and the last is Agape ( the combination between Eros and Storge ). 1.

Eros is an exclusive relationship in which the lovers do not like separation. However they are not jealous, not do they suffer from despair when they are separated. Eros is the type of love that focused of the couple’s physically and beauty
including job, money, social status,
carrier, face, intelligence 2.
Ludus Ludus is a game playing love. Ludus involves few deep emotional
experiences. Those concerned to be playing at being love. It just to fulfill the biological desire such as a refreshing , hobby and game. 3.
Storge Storge is the kind of love that begins as friendship. Storge includes an
elemant of seriousness and excludes game playing of love. There are a high level of emotion and commitment. 2.
The Secondary Love 1.
Mania Mania is combination between Eros and Ludus. Mania is a type of
manic lover who is consumed by emotion, jealousy, joy, sorrow, despair, and ecstasy all flash in rapid order. Manic lover often destroy what they are seeking by the excess of their emotions. Often mania takes the form of loving an unattainable person from far. The character of mania love is when you who feel falling in love, you will interest from the physically, high level desires, but you also think that it just a playing game without a serious commitment.

2. Pragma Pragma is combination between Ludus and Storge. Pragma is the kind of love where in the partner sits down and draws up balance sheets on each other. A person develops a list of characteristics desirable in a mate and then goes hunting for the right mate. Compatibility of life style and personality are the major consideration. The Pragma lover views love as useful relationship that makes the rest of life easier. 3.
Agape Agape is combination between Eros and Storge. Agape type is feel
interest from the physically, seriously and want to make a serious commitment.
3. Two Poles of Love by Abraham Maslow Abraham Maslow has a theory about love. According from the Character, he divided love into 2 poles; Love to be and Love to have. 1.
Love to be Love to be is type of love that make the couple freedom, give chance
to express the couple’s love and not possessive type. 2.
Love to have The opposite of love to be, love to have is a possessive type. It loves
because it wants something from the couple. It will more take anything than just give something.

Paradigm of Analysis There are three famous theories of love that writer mention above among
Stenberg with Triangular Theory of Love, Jhon Allan Lee with Six Colors of Love, and Abraham Maslow with two poles of love. After the writer make some comparison about the theories above, finally the writer only choose one of theory to analyses the type of love in Pesan Dari Nam novel by Daniel Steel. The Stenberg theory was choosen by the writer. The Stenberg theory describe that love contents of three elemants; intimacy, passion, decision or commitment. And the type of love here consists of eight types; Not love, Liking , Infatuation , Empty love , Romantic love , Companionate love, Fatuous love and Consummate love. The Stenberg theory is the most famous theory. There are many literatures that use this theory to analyses in many aspects. The reason is the theory of Stenberg is more complete explanation, easy to learn, easy to understand, and the most important that the Stenberg theory more fit to analyses the type of love in Pesan Dari Nam novel than the others.
CHAPTER III RESEARCH METHOD This research is a descriptive qualitative. Descriptive research method is a research that has purposes to identify, explain, draw and describe about something that make the statements of problem in the research. Sugiyono ( 2011 ) said, “penelitian desktiptif adalah sebuah penelitian yang bertujuan untuk memberikan atau manjabarkan suatu keadaan atau fenomana yang terjadi saat ini dengan manggunakan prosedur ilmiah untuk manjawab masalah secara aktual”. Sukmadinata (2006) said, “sebuah metode yang berusaha mandeskripsikan, manginterpretasikan sesuatu, misalnya kondisi atau hubungan yang ada, pendapat yang berkembang, proses yang sedang berlangsung, akibat atau efek yang terjadi atau tentang kecenderungan yang sedang berlangsung.’’ Based on the meanings mention above, descriptive research is a method that can be used to identify, describe and interpret about something with the scientific procedure to answer the statements of problem actually. Qualitative research method is a new research. It caused by the popularity of this method is not long yet. Postpositivistik, artistic, interpretive, etnography and naturalistic methods are the other name of qualitative research method. Qualitative research method based on the positivism philosophy and the process of this research method is artistic (less of the pattern). The research data came from the interpretation of the real data found in research object. This method research usually used to research the natural setting where the researcher is

instrumant key. The collect data by do the compound of some collect data tehniques and the analyses data is qualitative or inductive
type. Qualitative
research method use to find the data deeply that based on the facts in the object research and then constructed to the theory or hipotesis. It is the reason why the writer uses the descriptive qualitative research method. It caused by the descriptive qualitative research metodh is more appropriate than the others to answer and help the writer research to describe the type of Love in Pesan Dari Nam by Daniel Steel.

Data Collection The writer uses two kinds of data to analyse the type of in Pesan Dari
Nam; main data and supporting data. 1. Main data The main data of this study is the novel Pesan dari Nam by Daniel Steel. The novel was published in 2005 and released by Gramedia Pustaka. 2. Supporting data As the supporting data, the writer uses any references related to the main data and supported to the main data which are literary references. Literary references include any interpretation about the type of love to the main data. B.
Method of Collecting Data There are some ways to collecting the data such as: 1. The writer choosing a novel that interested her.

2. After finding the novel, Pesan Dari Nam, the writer reading the novel to make deep understanding and make identifying of the story and deciding the topic, the type of love to analyses. 3. The writer looking for the statements or sentences that related to the love story between Paxton Andrews and her boyfriend 4. Looking for the collects data throughout that related with the study from any references such as library sources, articles and essays and internet. That’s collects data about the theory of love and the type of love
C. Technique and Procedure of Data Analysis The writer using a technique and procedure to completing the data such as: 1.
Reading the text through close reading is the first step to understanding the data found in novel. This step also meant to trace the existence of the data throughout the novel.

Second step is encoding. It is meant to identifying, marking and adopting the spreading data in the source of data

Selecting the data based on classification and using the selected data which was suitable to her study as much as possible.

The writer looking for, completing, analyzing, describing and interpreting the statements that explain and describe about love story between Paxton Andrews and her boyfriend in Pesan dari Nam by

CHAPTER IV RESEARCH FINDING AND DISCUSSION The analysis of the statements of problem is the purpose of the writer in this chapter such as the type of love that occurred among the Paxton Andrews as the main character and her boyfriend in Pesan dari Nam by Daniel Steel. There are three people as the Paxton Andrews’ boy friend that mention in the novel; Peter Wilson, Bill Quin and Anthony Compobello and to explain about that, the writer will analyze the main character and the supporting character statements that related to the type of love. A.

Pada awalnya keadaan itu merisaukan Paxton, sebab berbeda dengan Gabby, yang paling tidak dia inginkan adalah manemukan suami. Peter plans to buy a ring as a symbol of their new serious commitment.

But, all of the plans fail. It caused by the death of Peter. Peter called by the government of USA. It is the one of USA military to look for the teeneagers who will become USA soldier to joint in the Nam war. Paxton can’t accept this reality. They will marry but Peter must go to Nam war. She afraids if there is a bad thing accurs to Peter and their plan to marry will fail. But, Peter feels that it is his obligatory to help his nation and he promises that he will come back to Paxton. He will still lifes and marry with Paxton as his promises before. Finally Peter goes to Nam war as a USA soldier. Paxton worry begins. Day to day she always waits Peter news. She always hopes that God will bless him. Seven days later, she gets news about Peter from Mr.Wilson as Peter father. He says that Peter died in Nam war. Paxton doesn’t belive it. She can’t accept this fact. Her boysfriend dies. After the failure of her wedding and the death of Peter, Paxton feels destroyed and she doesn’t have a power to life without Peter. She wants to fight the War in Nam. Nam war is killer. It kills her boyfriend. She hates Nam war so much. Finally she makes a decision to go to Nam war as a journalist for The Morning Sun magazine. She goes to Nam war to stop the war by her writes in magazine and actually to find the answer why Peter died.

At that place, Paxton meets capten William Quiin or known as Bill. Paxton feels interest from the physically for the first sight with Bill. Bill has good looking face, perfect body, moreover he is a captain who always protects anybodies such as Paxton. Paxton falls in love to the Bill. She feels that Bill can be someone to change Peter in her life. But, Paxton can’t forget about Peter. He dies in Nam war. How about Bill? Will Bill die in Nam war same like Peter? If it is true, Paxton is not ready to lose her boyfriend for second time. But the other side, Bill loves Paxton too. He promises that he will not killed by Nam war. Finally, they do a special relation.They feel confidence and they think that they need to share together in Nam. They need each other. Unfortunately, Paxton and Bill don’t have serious commitment. It caused by Bill condition. Bill was married. He has wife and three daughters so Paxton and Bill don’t have a brave to make serious commitment. Matanya seperti manembus mata Paxton dalam-dalam dan sesaat Paxton lupa apa yang ditanyakannya. Kapten Quinn sangat tampan , dan memancarkan kekuatan dari dalam dirinya, sikap penuh pengendalian, namun juga ada suatu sikap lain, agak sedikit liar dan barangkali sedikit gila. ( 2005, hal: 292) Paxton feels that Bill is so amazing. She comes to the war region to finds news for her newspaper but she is so crazy to the Bill until she forgets anything about her needs to get the news about Nam war. Quinn kagum padanya. Dia perempuan amerika pertama yang bersedia turun kebawah sana. Dia masih muda, cerdas, dan penuh minat, dan itu membuat dirinya berbeda. But now, she is really – really close with Tony.Paxton afraids has new realition with Tony at the first time. She still remembers about Peter and Bill who did die in Nam war. She always wrongs herself about their death. And Paxton doesn’t want to lose her boyfriends

for third times. Will Tony die in Nam like Peter and Bill? Paxton can’t to stop think about it. Tony loves Paxton so much. He tries to make sure that all of the thing is’nt Paxton wrong. If Tony die like Peter and Bill, it caused by the God decision. They are in war. They know the risks. Finally, Paxton accepts Tony love. She tries to build her power to love again. This tragedy makes Paxton crazy. Tony is always there for Paxton anytime and he always stronges Paxton. It makes Paxton loves Tany so much. Few months later, Tony’s duty as a war soldier will be end. And Paxton’s duty as a war journalist will be end too, so they make a decision if the duty ends, they will come to USA and life together there with their son. When Paxton and Tony are happy, one time Tony must continues his duty in Saigon and he promises to call Paxton when he arrives. Paxton writes news for her newspaper while she waits Tony call. And finally, Paxton get news about Tony. When Tony is in his duty journey, suddenly Vietnam soldier or known as Charlie attacks him and Tony disappears in at that time. Again, Paxton have to feels like before when she sads to Peter and Bill. Paxton feels destroye again. In the middle of Paxton destoyed, she still has upportunity that Tony is still in one place. It makes Paxton stronge because the USA governmants soldier said that Tony disappears not dies and the USA soldier will always try to find and safe him. But they make sure that vey difficult to life in there. So there just a little chance to life for Tony. This fact makes Paxton sad. She must to accept this fact now that Tony was died. Tak peduli bagaimana perasaan didalam hatinya, sama sekali tidak ada kemungkinan Tony masih hidup saat ini. Dalam pikirannya, meskipun dalam hatinya tidak, dia tahu itu. Her mind believes that Tony was died. But, her feel says that Tony still a life in one place. Finally, she comes back to the Nam again. But she can’t find Tony and finally she gives up and this fact can accept by her mind and her feel. The new USA president was made decision that USA soldier must to come back to their nation. And this war must to stopp. It makes Paxton happy. She was hoped like that for a long time. This war makes her three boysfriend killed. The president promises that Paxton will get a chair to come back to the USA. Paxton goes to the USA governmant office for Vietnam to ready comes back to the USA. There are many people there. They hope to get chair to come back to the USA. And when Paxton walks in one road to the USA governmant office, someone touches her hand. She tries to free her hand but she can’t. She looks that someone. He is old man and dirty. He is full of feces until Paxton can’t look his face. When Paxton tries to look his face, suddenly she knows that man is Tony. Tony is still life. He tries to speak to the Paxton about his name but Paxton

knows who he is. She was looked for him for a long time. And she can find him now. Finally, Paxton brings Tony to the plane. She is very happy. She wants to bring Tony comes back to their nation. “Aku mancarimu,” kata Paxton lirih, mangusap kotoran yang manutupi wajah kekasihnya dengan lembut. They are the one who belive that Tony is still life. And now it is true. Paxton is happy. She loves Tony so much. And she knows that Joey will be happy. “Selamat datang di rumah,” kata sebuah suara, ketika seseorang manolong mereka turun. “Selamat datang di rumah!” kata suarasuara itu ketika mereka di sambut di tempat yang aman. Tony berdiri dan manangis, memeluk Paxton, dan bendera mereka berkibar-kibar di atas kepala, dan dia berbisik ditengah keramaian. “ Aku cinta padamu, Delta Delta…” “ Di kapal USS Blue Ridge, Paxton dan Tony meluncur pulang, manuju putra mereka, dan Dunia yang sudah mereka tinggalkan terlalu lama. Dunia yang sudah mereka lupakan . tetapi Nam sudah hilang sekarang. Kenangan jauh…mimpi buruk…mimpi. Bagi mereka, dan setiap orang lain, sekarang, semua itu akhirnya selesai. ( 2005, hal: 499-500) Finally, after all of the suffering, sad, lose, bad dreams, sacrifice, the Nam war can stop. All of the people are happy include Paxton and Tony. Paxton and Tony can back to home to reach and continue their own world which they have leaved for a long time to the their happiness and actually for their son, Joey.

Conclusion Love is a deep heart feeling that includes self developmant, emotional
freedom, personal and social responsibility, tolerance, physical awareness and acceptance, knowledge, caring, sympathy and empathy. Love is the highest position something that human need in life. When someone who feel love, they can not know where does love come from.There are many theories about the origin of love in this world; Action Theory, Cognitive Theory, Evolution Theory and Biology Theory. Every people have ways to express their love that relate with their own quality love. The quality of love that they bulid will relate with their type of love. There are many type of love such as; Non Love, Liking, Infatution, Empty Love, Romantic Love, Companionate Love, Fatuous Love and Consummate Love. In this novel, there are two types of love that describe such as; Romantic love and Cosummate Love. To find them, the writer looking for, completing, analyzing, describing and interpreting the statements that explain and describe about love story between the character in Pesan dari Nam by Daniel Steel and then the writer making summarize from that statements.

SYNOPSIS This novel tells the story of an intelligent and beautiful woman named Andrew Paxton Paxton , a beautiful and intelligent girl who lives in the luxurious surroundings with his mother , brother - a man and a maid who had been regarded as his own mother . After graduating high school , Paxton decided to get out of the house to go to college in another city. She met Peter at there and get serious relation. The marriage had been planned , then Peter must sent by the American government to Vietnam war and Peter died there. Death of Peter makes the world Paxton destroyed . Until one day he decided to go to Vietnam as a clerk at a time to find out about the death of Peter as a journalist. Paxton meet Bill and got the serious relationship. Love of Bill and Paxton did not last long . Vietnam killed Bill . Bill died after he stepped on a grenade while he was conducting military operations in the Cuchi .after that tragedy, Paxton met Tony and they got a srious relation. Tony is an American army sergeant. Tony declared miss in military operations. But Paxton didn’t believe that Vietnam has killed her love again for the third time. But this time Paxton did not give up to reach her happiness. She looked for Tony for 5 years
and finally, she found Tony. Along with the

Danielle Fernandes Dominique Schuelein-Steel (born August 14, 1947), better known by the name Danielle Steel, is an American novelist, currently the best selling author alive and the fourth bestselling author of all time, with over 800 million copies sold. Danielle Fernandes Dominique Schuelein-Steel was born in New York City, the only child of Norma da Câmara Stone dos Reis and John Schulein-Steel. Her father was a German Jewish immigrant, a descendant of owners of Löwenbräu beer. Her mother, born in Portugal, was the daughter of a diplomat. Steel was raised Catholic and had wanted to be a nun during her early years. She spent much of her childhood in France, where from an early age she was included in her parents' dinner parties, giving her an opportunity to observe the habits and lives of the wealthy and famous. Her parents divorced when she was eight, however, and she was raised primarily in New York City and Europe by her father, rarely seeing her mother.
Steel started writing stories as a child, and by her late teens had begun writing poetry. A graduate of the Lycée Français de New York, class of 1963, she studied literature design and fashion design, first at Parsons School of Design in 1963 and then at New York University from 1963–1967.
In 1965, when she was 18, Steel married French-American banker ClaudeEric Lazard. While a young wife, and still attending New York University, Steel began writing, completing her first manuscript the following year, when she was nineteen. After the birth of their daughter, Beatrix, in 1966, Steel worked for a public relations agency in New York called Supergirls for several years. A

magazine client was highly impressed with her freelance articles and encouraged her to focus on writing and suggested she write a book, which she did. She later moved to San Francisco, and worked for Grey Advertising, as a copywriter.
Based in California for most of her career, Steel has produced several books a year, often juggling up to five projects at once. All her novels have been bestsellers, including those issued in hardback. Her formula is fairly consistent, often involving rich families facing a crisis, threatened by dark elements such as jail, fraud, blackmail and suicide. Steel has also published children's fiction and poetry, as well as raising funds for the treatment of mental illness. Her books have been translated into 28 languages, with 22 adapted for television, including two that have received Golden Globe nominations.
After nine years of marriage and many years of separation, Steel and Lazard divorced. In 1972 her first novel, Going Home, was published. The novel contained many of the themes that her writing would become known for, including a focus on family issues and human relationships.
While still married to Lazard, Steel met Danny Zugelder while interviewing an inmate in a prison near Lompoc, California, where Zugelder was also incarcerated. He moved in with Steel when he was paroled in June 1973, but returned to prison in early 1974 on robbery and rape charges. After receiving her divorce from Lazard in 1975, she married Zugelder in the prison canteen. She divorced him in 1978, but the relationship spawned Passion's Promise and Now and Forever, the two novels that launched her career.

Steel married her third husband, William George Toth, the day after her divorce from Zugelder was finalized. She was already 8 1⁄2 months pregnant with his child, Nicholas. With the success of her fourth book, The Promise, she became a participant in San Francisco high society while Toth, a former drug addict, was left out. They divorced in March 1981.
Steel married for the fourth time in 1981, to vintner John Traina. Traina subsequently adopted Steel's son Nick and gave him his family name. Together they had an additional five children, Samantha (April 14, 1982), Victoria (September 5, 1983), Vanessa (December 18, 1984) a fashion stylist, Maxx (February 10, 1986) and Zara (September 26, 1987).
Coincidentally, beginning with her marriage to Traina in 1981, Steel has been a near-permanent fixture on the New York Times hardcover and paperback bestsellers lists. In 1989, she was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for having a book on the New York Times Bestseller List for the most consecutive weeks of any author—381 consecutive weeks at that time. Since her first book was published, every one of her novels has hit bestseller lists in paperback, and each one released in hardback has also been a hardback bestseller. During this time Steel also contributed to her first non-fiction work. Having a Baby was published in 1984 and featured a chapter by Steel about suffering through miscarriage. The same year she also published a book of poetry, Love: Poems.
Steel also ventured into children's fiction, penning a series of 10 illustrated books for young readers. These books, known as the "Max and Martha" series,

aim to help children face real life problems: new baby, new school, loss of loved one, etc. In addition, Steel has authored the "Freddie" series. These four books address other real life situations: first night away from home, trip to the doctor, etc.
Determined to spend as much time as possible with her own children, Steel often wrote at night, making do with only four hours of sleep, so that she could be with her children during the day. Steel is a prolific author, often releasing several books per year. Each book takes 2½ years to complete, so Steel has developed an ability to juggle up to five projects at once, researching one book while outlining another, then writing and editing additional books.
Her fear of flying created so many challenges in the early 1980s that she attended and successfully graduated from the non-profit organization The Fear of Flying Clinic, going on to serve as one of its directors for some years.[citation needed]
