PROVISIONAL REV.T – DN – ISM 6/1/88 LOC. PAGAK – MALANG REGENCY RAMPAL SERIES The rampal series consist of very deep, well drained, slowly permeable class af soils on side slopes of uplands. They formed in the weathered products of limestone. The slope gradient ranges from 4 to 45 percent. Mean annual temperature is 25 degrees celcius, and mean annual precipitation is 1.900 mm. Taxonomic class : very fine, mixed, isohyperthermic, typic chromusterts Typical pedon : rampal clay, on 20 percent south facing convex side slope in cultivated ridge terrace, 4 to 6 meters wide and about 30 or 40 cm hill ridges or berm terraces, for uplands food crops cassava and maize of rampal clay, 15 to 30 percent slopes.
Ap -- 0 to 20 cm : dark reddish brown ( 5 YR 3/2 ) moist and dry clay; weak fine subangular blocky structure; firm, sticky and plastic; many fine and common medium tubular pores; few fine roots; neutral; clear smooth boundary. Ac -- 8 to 20 cm ; dark brown (7.5 YR ¾ ) heavy clay; brown (7.5 YR 4/4 ) dry; moderate coarse prismatic structure parting to moderate medium angular blocky and coarse wedfe shaped fragments; very firm, sticky and plastic; common 3 to 10 cm wide cracks filled with Ap materials; few fine and medium rounded manganese concretions and nodules scattered throughout the horizon; common fine and few medium tubular pores; few fine roots; few prominent slickensides; neutrals; clear smooth boundary. ) T – 1) ACc -- 20 to 32 cm; strong brown (7.5 YR 4/6 ) heavy clay; moderate coarse prismatic structure parting to moderate medium angular blocky and coarse wedge shaped fragments; very firm; sticky and plastic; common 2 to 5 cm wide cracks filled with Ap material; common fine and medium rounded manganese concretions and nodules scattered throughout the horizon; common fine tubular pores; few fine roots; common prominent and many distrinct intersecting slickensides; neutral; abrupt smooth boundary. ( 7 to 14 cm thick ) AC -- 35 to 74 cm; strong brown (7.5 YR 4/6 ) heavy clay; moderate coarse prismatic structure parting to moderate medium angular blocky and coarse wedge shaped fragments; firm, sticky and plastic ; few medium gray spots ( 10YR 6/1 ) of weathered limestone; many prominent manganese accumulations as a coating on peds and intersperced within peds; common fine tubular pores; few fine roots; few prominent and many distinct intersecting slickensides; neutral; gradual smooth boundary. ( combines thickness of the AC horizon is 30 to 70 cm )
C1 -- 75 to 128 cm: strong brown (7.5 YR 4/6 ) heavy clay; firm, sticky and plastic ; common coarse gray spots ( 10 YR 6/1 ) of weathered limestone and common distinct yellowish brown ( 10 YR 5/6 ) mottles; many prominent manganese accumulations throughout the horizon; common fine tubular pores; few fine roots; few prominent slickensides; mildly alkaline; gradual smooth boundary. C2 -- 128 to 180 cm; mic color yellowish red, grayish brown and brownish yellow heavy clay; firm, stickyand plastic; few prominent manganese accumulations interspersed throughout the horizons; few fine irregular pores; mildly alkaline. (combine thickness of the C horizon is 50 to 95 cm or more)
Type Location : Rampal kampong approximately 2 km western of pagak. The coordinante is 112o30’8” south latitude. Range in Characteristics : The thickness of solum ranges from 70 to 120 cm. the cracks are 2 to 10 cm wide and 50 to 100 cm deep during the dry reason. Depth to bedrock is greater than 180 cm reaction ranges from slightly acid to neutral in the surface layer and neutral to mildly alkaline in the subsoil and substratum. The AP and A horizon has hue of 5 YR or 7.5 YR, value of 3 or 4 dry and moist, chroma of 2 to 4 dry and moist. Texture is clay. Manganese concretions and nodules ranges from 1 to 5 percent. Reaction is neutral. The AC horizon has hue of 7.5 YR or 5 YR, value of 3 or 4 and chroma of 4 to 8. Texture is heavy clay. Manganese concretions and nodules range from 2 to 10 percent. Reaction is neutral. The C horizon has hue of 5 YR to 10 YR, value of 4 to 6 and chroma of 2 to 8. Texture is heavy clay. Reaction is mildly alkaline. COMPETING SERIES : GEOGRAPHIC SETTING : Rampal soils occupy on straight or convex side slopes. The slope gradient commonly ranges from 15 to 25 percent, but the complete range is 3 to 45 percent. The soils formed in weathered products of limestone. The mean annual temperature ranges from 24 to 26 degrees C, mean annual precipitation ranges from 1,700 to 2,100 mm. DRAINAGE AND PERMEABILITY : well drained. Runoff is medium to very rapid. Permeability is slow. USE AND VEGETATION : Most areas of Rampal soils are cultivated for upland crops. : Diagnostic horizons and features recognized in this pedon are :
Orchic epipedon – the zone from the surface of the soil to a depth of 20 cm ( Ap and Ac horizons ). Cracks of 2 to 10 cm wide at a depth of 68 cm and remain open more than 5 months. Intersecting slickensides are present from 10 to 122 cm depth. Wedge shaped soil fragments from 10 to 99 cm. ustic moisture regime.

Terbentuk dari lapukan batu kapur. Gradien lereng berkisar 4-45 persen. Rata-rata suhu tahunan adalah 25 derajat celcius, dan berarti curah hujan tahunan 1.900 mm. KELAS TAKSONOMI : sangat halus, dicampur, isohyperthermic, chromusterts typic KHAS PEDON : liat rampal, pada 20 persen menghadap ke selatan cembung sisi lereng di teras dibudidayakan ridge, 4 sampai 6 meter dan lebar sekitar 30 atau 40 cm pegunungan bukit atau teras tanggul, untuk tanaman dataran tinggi makanan dari singkong dan jagung rampal tanah liat, 15 sampai 30 persen lereng.
Ap - 0 sampai 20 cm: coklat kemerahan gelap (5 YR 3/2) lembab dan kering tanah liat; lemah subangular baik struktur gumpal; perusahaan, lengket dan plastik; banyak halus dan poripori umum tubular menengah; Beberapa akar halus; netral; batas halus jelas. Ac - 8 sampai 20 cm; coklat gelap (7,5 YR ¾) tanah liat berat; coklat (7,5 YR 4/4) kering; moderat kasar struktur prismatik perpisahan sampai sedang menengah sudut wedfe berbentuk fragmen kuning dan kasar; sangat tegas, lengket dan plastik; umum 3 sampai 10 cm retak lebar diisi dengan bahan Ap; beberapa baik dan menengah bulat concretions mangan dan nodul tersebar di seluruh cakrawala; baik umum dan beberapa pori-pori tubular menengah; Beberapa akar halus; Beberapa slickensides menonjol; netral; batas halus jelas. ) T - 1) Acc - 20-32 cm; coklat yang kuat (7,5 YR 4/6) tanah liat berat; moderat kasar struktur prismatik perpisahan sampai sedang menengah sudut berbentuk baji fragmen kuning dan kasar; sangat tegas; lengket dan plastik; umum 2 sampai 5 cm retak lebar diisi dengan bahan Ap; baik umum dan menengah bulat concretions mangan dan nodul tersebar di seluruh cakrawala; umum pori-pori tubular baik; Beberapa akar halus; umum terkemuka dan banyak slickensides berpotongan distrinct; netral; batas halus tiba-tiba. (7 sampai 14 cm) AC - 35-74 cm; coklat yang kuat (7,5 YR 4/6) tanah liat berat; moderat kasar struktur prismatik perpisahan sampai sedang menengah sudut berbentuk baji fragmen kuning dan kasar; perusahaan, lengket dan plastik; beberapa tempat media abu-abu (10 yr 6/1) lapuk batu kapur; banyak akumulasi mangan menonjol sebagai lapisan pada peds dan intersperced dalam peds; umum pori-pori tubular baik; Beberapa akar halus; Beberapa slickensides berpotongan berbeda menonjol dan banyak; netral; batas halus bertahap. (Menggabungkan ketebalan cakrawala AC adalah 30 sampai 70 cm)
