Dear Parents/Carers Welcome our July newsletter. It was wonderful to see so many of you at our Zomerfeest. Everyone had a wonderful time and there was no rain! We would like to say a big thank you to all of the parents staff and children who helped to make these events a real success. We could not do it without you.
Lorraine Janet Dean Director International and Frans de Jong Director Dutch Department Staffing In our staff letter we missed out the fact that Mr. Martin Pratt is leaving us. He was employed to cover Miss Potocnik’s maternity leave and is joining the BSN. We wish him every success in his new position.
Sports Days A big thank you to all our staff and parents who made our two sports days at the HDM such a big success. Many parents have commented positively to us about the good co-operation and team work that was demonstrated. An especially big thank you to our team of gym teachers for organising such a great range of activities.

Digital Devices - One Man's Junk is Another Man's Treasure (A message from our technology department) Have you just updated to the newest tablet? Don’t know what to do with your old tablet? HSV can help! Did you know that you can support HSV Schools and provide 21st Century learning for all the children? Throughout the years HSV has had many parents make technology donations to our schools. Just last month, we had a generous donation given to our schools from Europol, Den Haag. One of our KSS parents, Mr. Saldan, heard about Europol looking to donate some of their computers and put us in contact with them. Thanks to Mr. Saldan and Europol, our HSV classrooms at NSL (ID & NA), KSS and VNS will have computers for the students to use for their classroom assignments. You can help too! Next year, HSV will begin using tablets to enhance the children’s learning. We are seeking donations from any of you who have old tablets that we can refurbish for students use. Interested in donating? Just contact one of our technology coordinators, Amy Teske or Eric Stins (
[email protected],
[email protected]). Thank you for your commitment to our students, and their education.
[email protected] of Eric Stins,
MR NEWS The MR has taken notice of a recent traffic incident in front of the school and shares the concerns. Safety has been a standard issue on the agenda in the past meetings, but the incident(s) show that measures taken such as the “school zone” sign, increased police surveillance, repeated calls to drivers to avoid the last part of the Nassaulaan, and a “shame and blame” attitude are not enough. The MR would be very happy to receive suggestions for real safety improvement (
[email protected] ), in order to have input for the next meeting with the management. The MR was invited to participate in “Passend Onderwijs”, an initiative of the Ministry, which obliges the school to organize suitable education for every pupil, by supporting them, or by helping to find a good place elsewhere. The school must create a “schoolondersteuningsprofiel”. The MR is allowed to give advice. The MR is also invited to participate in a regional board which will create a “ondersteuningsplan”. In our area the board is called SSPOH (Stichting Passend Primair Onderwijs Haaglanden).
Another issue on the agenda is the MR website http://www.hsvdenhaag.nl/nassauint/cgioic/pagedb.exe/show?no=944&fromno=909 The MR would very much like to know if parents think the MR part of the school website is meeting expectations and, if not, how the site could be improved. One of the questions which come up regularly is if parents would like the site to be interactive.
[email protected] As far as the new School Plan is concerned, the MR and the management agreed the management would send every next MR meeting "an aspect” of the plan. This is still in its early stages and the management team presented the work done on the mission and aims. There is still a lot more to do. The strategic plan is being worked on in the coming months. MR has indicated that it would like regular updates. The MR was informed that HSV wants to participate in a pilot for bilingual (Dutch-English) education. The goal is attend Dutch bilingual parents or parents who come back from abroad and have bilingual kids. This only applies to the Dutch Department. The MR strongly supports this initiative. Finally, two MR members are leaving: staff member Marlieke Zeegers and parent member Marlies Ruijgrok. In September elections will be organized in order to complete the MR.

Last School Day-Final Countdown On Friday 19th we invite you to the playground to countdown to the last minutes of the Schoolyear. Gymnast NA7 Camille, NA7, was congratulated last month by Alderman Karsten Klein. She, along with her team mates , won a bronze medal in the National Gymnastics Championship. Super Camille!
Dogs and bicycles A quick reminder that there are no dogs allowed in ther playground and school area. As the bridge is an emergency exit it is not allowed to park bicycles or any vehicles there.
Traffic Safety-Safety of our Pupils Both NA and ID parents received an email from us about near accidents which occurred recently. We take this very seriously and have made contact with the appropriate agencies. We will keep you informed.
Heel hartelijk dank!!!! Parent help We wish to extend our thanks to all parents who have given us so much help in the course of the school year. We are very grateful. Your input greatly enriches the school life of your children.
