MAIN RESEARCH INTERESTS •
• • •
Ongoing research project: History of ideas, in particular the world history of "equality" from antiquity to the present day. The focus is equality and common humanity across boundaries between cultures, religions and civilizations. It represents a follow-up of my book François Poulain de la Barre and the Invention of Modern Equality (Harvard, 2004). It is a broad project that will result in several books (see papers and published & accepted articles for 2004-2007 below). The Enlightenment and concepts of equality and difference / early-modern feminism. The interconnections between European state formation and the history of political culture and political discourse. The history of liberal political thought.
