Het wereldwijde TBC problem • 1/3 van de wereld bevolking is geïnfecteerd. • 2 miljoen mensen sterven jaarlijks aan TB • WHO doelstelling: detectie van 70% van de microscopische positieve patienten en een genezingspercentage van ten minste 85% • Co-infectie van HIV en TB maakt het probleem erger • Minder dan 40% van de patiënten wordt ontdekt • Geneesmiddelen resistentie vormt een groot probleem KIT Biomedical Research
Hoe moeten we het TB probleem aanpakken • Armoede bestrijden • TB gezondheidsdienst, gelden vrijmaken, goede organisatie, goede staf en management • Verbetering van de detectie van TB patiënten door betere diagnostische testen •
Ontwikkeling van simpele testen die gemakkelijk zijn uit te voeren.
