Is multitasking a special gift?
High multitaskers were constantly distracted by the irrelevant The high multitaskers are always drawing from all the information in front of them. They can't keep things separate in their minds.“ “They're not able to filter out what's not relevant to their current goal. That failure to filter means they're slowed down " (Wagner associate professor)
"They're suckers for irrelevancy" (Prof Nass) 23

© Dr Theo Compernolle MD., PhD. www.compernolle.com
"We kept looking for what they're better at, and we didn't find it" (Prof Ophir, lead author Stanford)

Have you ever chosen to spend time online rather than going out with others? 6. Does going online lift you from a depressed or nervous mood? 7. Phones and email off. Decide what you will do the day before, after your last email check. Use the Outlook rules to protect yourself Fight tooth and nail against internal SPAM all weapons are allowed to fight this plague! But start yourself: think 2 seconds before you add a person in “TO”. Stop CC’ing yourself. Stop CYA mail. II. Sick Buildings Psychological Neglect of the genetic needs of the cave(wo)man in all of us •The circulation of smells become tense without realizing it has anything to do with artificial smell
•Lack of meaningful visual and audio stimuli primitive man in you, after living in the wild for millions of years, is very attached to greenery, seeing the horizon, clouds and the air
Possible causes circulated by the air-conditioning are: - solvents of glue (eg. in fibre-board) - products which protect wood from fungi - insulation materials - the additives used to speed up the drying of cement - the re-circulation of air polluted by smoking mixed with substances emitted by printers and photocopying machines - the multiplication and spreading of fungi, germs and viruses in air-conditioning systems. - Micro-organisms sometimes actually multiply in the filters 45
•Continuous vibrations if the frequency changes with the changing wind strength or wind direction, then the primitive man in you may become alarmed and tense each time, even though you are not conscious of the cause.
•Lack of a clearly-defined territory © Dr Theo Compernolle MD., PhD. www.compernolle.com

Sick Building Syndrome: “a situation where building occupants experience acute health and comfort effects that appear to be linked to time spent in a building, but no specific illness or cause can be identified”
the noise and conversation constantly invades their work-space, others can walk in and out of it uninvited
•Monotonous surroundings monotonous noise, monotonous temperature, monotonous smell, monotonous views and blank walls. If, on top of all that, work is monotonous too, your senses will crave stimulation
•Lack of influence on environment One of the top stress increasing factors. eg. cannot adjust temperature to personal need
•Noise The human being cannot close his ears!
•Conversations Noise and irrelevant speech contribute to mental workload, poor performance, stress, and fatigue •Halfaloges distract more than dialogues and monologues Uit T.Compernolle, Stress:Vriend en Vijand 46
