"Goodbye, Hello!" Tiba waktunya kita untuk berpisah dengan Presiden Direktur yang kita hormati sekaligus sahabat yang kita cintai, JC. Empat tahun berlalu begitu cepat, namun begitu, keberadaannya serta kontribusinya telah memberikan udara segar bagi L’Oréal Indonesia.
The time has come for us to part with our esteemed President and beloved friend, JC. Four years passed by, and his presence and contributions have given L’Oréal Indonesia a tremendous breath of fresh air.
Edisi surprise special ini dipersembahkan untuk mengenang pencapaian yang telah kita ukir bersama dengan JC serta untuk memberikan apresiasi atas segala kontribusinya terhadap L’Oréal Indonesia sampai dengan hari ini.
The release of this surprise special edition is dedicated to highlight the great successes we’ve achieved together with JC, and to show our sincere appreciation for his astounding contributions in making where we are today at L’Oréal Indonesia.
Empat tahun kepemimpinannnya di Indonesia telah membuahkan perkembangan pesat bagi Perusahaan kita secara keseluruhan; peningkatan penjualan serta peluncuran produk-produk yang inovatif dan dibuat khusus untuk pasar Indonesia, merupakan sebagian dari buah kepemimpinannya. Tidak hanya fokus pada kemajuan bisnis, sebagai seorang humanis ia juga berperan dalam pembentukkan reputasi Perusahaan sebagai warga korporat yang bertanggung jawab dan sederet penghargaan yang kita peroleh atas komitmen di bidang CSR. Dan tentunya, beliau adalah seorang yang sangat peduli dalam membangun L’Oréal Indonesia sebagai tempat kerja yang menyenangkan untuk kita tumbuh dan berprestasi bersama.
Four years of his leadership in Indonesia have given a high boost to the overall growth of the Company; sales increase of our fantastic brands, and amazing launches of highly innovative and made-for Indonesia products, to name a few. Not only did JC focused to excel the business of L’Oréal, the line up of our CSR awards was also due to this believer in humanism. And most importantly, he also cared about the comfort of making this Company a great place to grow and to work, for us all, the employees of L’Oréal Indonesia.

In this special edition, we will revisit the milestones etched together with JC, hear from our friends and partners on how they’ll remember him by, find out some of his special traits and reminisce our sweet journey together in some of the best captured moments. As sad as we are to say goodbye, we believe that it’s a golden beginning for JC in the future.

3rd Indonesian International Fellows of The L'Oréal - Unesco For Women in Science This time round it was received by Penia Kresnowati from ITB who was also the winner of the national fellowship program in 2008. She was the 3rd Indonesian scientists chosen to receive this prestigious international fellowship due to her research entitled “Bioprocess technology: conception of a bioreactor prototype for the production of stem cells”.

L'Oréal E-Strat Challenge 2008 2 Indonesian teams won the International L'Oréal E-Strat Challenge in both Bachelor and Post Graduate degrees in Paris. This online business simulation competition invited students all over the world to experience the life as a General Manager of a cosmetics company. Well done Indonesia!
L'Oréal Paris Men Expert Launch L'Oréal Paris launched the first skin care product for men and appointed Nicolas Saputra as the local brand ambassador in the following year. The advertisement was a success giving a boost to the selling of the product as well.

Indonesian Asia Responsible Entrepreneurship Awards (AREA) 2009 L'Oréal Indonesia was awarded 'Best Community Engagement' which recognizes our continuous commitment in supporting women and science through the For Women in Science program.
L'Oréal Professionnel Hairducation Remembering that L'Oréal concerns about education. On this educative program for vocational secondary schools and hair beauty academies, aims to provide hairstyling education and internship opportunity at L’Oréal Professionnel salons. The event was also combined with a hairstyling competition called L’Oréal Young Generation Color Challenge which was participated by the students from the Hairducation program.

Kerastase Family Launch Kerastase embraced 10 Indonesia public figures into its prestigious community by launching Kerastase Family. The event also presented awards for best media partners and best salon partners.
Jean-Paul Agon visit The visit of L'Oréal CEO in Iate January became an important foundation for further growth acceleration particularly on the mass market product category. Mr. Agon also announced the development plan of L'Oréal Indonesia's new Yasulor factory in Jababeka with investment worth of USD 50mio and declared Indonesia as one of L'Oréal Group's priority markets globally.

4th Indonesian International Fellows of The L'Oral - Unesco For Women in Science UNESCO announced young and talented Indonesian female scientist, Sidrotun Naim (32), as one of the 15 winners of the 2011 L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women In Science international fellowship program. Naim who also won the national fellowship program in 2009, is scheduled to receive the international award in March 2012, making her the 4th Indonesian scientists to be awarded at an international level. It's proud to know that Indonesian scientists are able to compete in world class levels. we hope to see more shining scientists from Indonesia in the coming years ahead.

Dear Mr. Letellier, you are my fifth boss in L’Oréal after Mr. Stephane Gattat, Mr. Christophe Ruffat, Mr. Philippe Bocchino and Mr. Richard Matalon. I remember we first met in January 2008, a moment when L’Oréal Indonesia was designated as the host of CPG Asia in Bali, and the event was a great success and very memorable. Our second most memorable moment was the “Red Carpet” project, which was the visit of L’Oréal’s No.1 person to Indonesia in January 2010. You prepared it very well and put attention to every smallest detail. We dedicated our time & energy, and at the end it was all really worth it.

Michel Toth - PPD General Manager Pertemuan pertama saya dengan JC adalah 10 tahun yang lalu di Belgia…saat itu ia memegang pemasaran Garnier dan kemudian saya berkesempatan bekerja lebih dekat dengannya saat ia menjadi GM CPD dan saya sebagai Commercial Director-nya. Orang-orang terkesima tak hanya dengan pengetahuannya tentang pemasaran, tapi juga kemampuannya dalam hal penjualan dan urusan finansial. Sampai CPD Controller kami saat itu mengakui kalau JC mengerti P&L CPD sebaik dia! 4 tahun setelah masa di Belgia, saya senang sekali untuk bisa bekerjasama lagi dengannya di Indonesia! JC selalu membantu saya dan selalu tertarik dengan bisnis PPD. Melalui kepemimpinannya dan pendekatannya yang humanis, ia telah berhasil mengembangkan L’Oréal Indonesia sebagai suatu organisasi yang maju dan modern serta bagian dari “The Next Twelve!”
The first time I met JC, it was 10 years ago in Belgium, he was marketing coordinator for Garnier and then we worked more closely when he was GM for CPD and I was his Commercial Director. People were impressed not only by his marketing knowledge, but also his ability to manage sales and financial issues. Our CPD Controller at that time used to say that JC knew the CPD P&L as well as him! 4 years after that, I had the opportunity to work with JC again in Indonesia, and I was very happy for that! He was always helpful and very interested in the PPD Business. Through his leadership and very humanistic approach he modernized and developed L’Oréal Indonesia to become one of “The Next Twelve!”

JC is a well-rounded professional that cares both the business and the people. He cares for long term development and also drives for short term achievements. He is one of few country manager that I ever met that sees opportunities of what supply chain can do to accelerate the growth with outsourcing and customer collaboration.

I still remember the first time I met JC. My first impressions were he's someone who's young, tall and full of energy. It was quite difficult for our Indonesian tongue to pronounce his long and very French name! So on his 3rd day in the office I proposed to call him by his nick name, JC, he didn’t mind at all and that's how we all call him until today. I recall the earlier days when he arrived, he seemed to be very serious and reserve. I then saw a very big change. I see JC now as someone who always challenges us on business but smiles a lot, likes to joke around and very friendly; He has become the icon of L’Oréal Indonesia.
Kita juga bangga mempunyai Country Manager yang selalu mendukung dan peduli dengan karyawannya. Sejak masa kepemimpinannyalah kita mulai bisa menunjukkan bakat-bakat Indonesia di kancah L’Oréal internasional, meluncurkan kompetisi Brandstorm dan berhasil meraih posisi ke-3 di tingkat internasional tahun lalu, dan tentunya terlihat nyata bahwa tempat kerja dan fasilitas kita di kantor saat ini menjadi lebih nyaman dan menyenangkan.
More seriously, I'm very happy for having JC as our Country Manager since he shows big concerns and support towards people. It was during his leadership that we're able to give our talents the first international assignment abroad, launched the first Brandstorm competition and managed to win third prize at international level, and more noticeably, we now have better working condition at the office.

Rasanya baru kemarin saya bertemu JC di Bali dan mendengar dia berkata “Kamu pasti Ashwin…”, Itu 4 tahun yang lalu!
It seems like the other day that I first met JC in Bali and heard him say “You must be Ashwin…. “, but that was four years ago!
Empat tahun berjalan dengan perdebatan di koridor kantor, perancangan strategi sambil ngopi, dan perdebatan seru dengan JC. Masa-masa closing yang menegangkan, perebutan pangsa pasar yang kadang bikin gigit jari, dan harap-harap cemas persiapan berbagai peluncuran produk. 4 tahun yang berisikan perbedaan pendapat, pertanyaan, uji-coba, bahkan kegagalan. Namun buat saya setiap momen itu sangatlah berharga…dan itulah yang menjadikan JC seorang rekan sekaligus pemimpin yang tak diragukan kehebatannya.
Since then, it’s been 4 years of corridor debates, coffee triggered strategies and aggression laden plans with JC. There were tense month end closings, nail biting market share fights and anxious launches. There were 4 years of disagreements, questions, trials and tribulations. But at the end of it all, it was always worth it- every moment of it …and that’s what made JC a great colleague and an undisputed leader.
Perjalanan CPD beberapa tahun terakhir ini telah menoreh status penting Indonesia di grup L’Oréal, namun suksesnya sebuah organisasi memerlukan seorang pemimpin - dan dalam hal ini saya mewakili tim CPD ingin meyampaikan bahwa kami sangat beruntung memiliki JC.
CPD’s journey these last few years have defined Indonesia’s status within L’Oréal, but success within an organization needs a leader – and I speak for the team, when I say that we have been lucky to have had JC. Behind our big growth lies more than a few big, tricky decisions.

There was one time during a meeting with retailer, JC was so energized that he was able to speak non-stop for a good 20 minutes (to our amazement)! JC has a natural gift with words – he has the ability to be subtle yet persuasive with ‘hints’ in his communication. Sometimes I do not know where he gets all the energy from, he manages to look fresh and alert all the time.
Kenangan lain bersama JC adalah saat kegiatan Citizen Day LLD tahun lalu. JC hadir di tengah-tengah kami karena saat itu divisi kami tidak memiliki GM dan itu adalah hal yang sangat manis buat kami! Dengan antusias JC membantu tim kami mengecat ruang-ruang sekolah (kegiatan sosial kami saat itu adalah untuk membantu perbaikan sebuah sekolah kurang mampu)…ia pun harus membersihkan cipratan cat diwajahnya dengan menggunakan kaca Lancome Compact Foundation - lucu sekali kami melihatnya!
Another memorable experience with JC was to also have his presence during LPD Citizen Day 2011 because we didn’t have a GM and he was sweet enough to join us! He was quite keen on painting the roof of classrooms (our charity was a makeover project for underprivileged schools) and he got paint bits all over his face – and he had to clean up his face using Lancome compact foundation mirror – quite a cute sight for us!

The following were only pleasures, challenges, and extra miles with smiles: • Pleasure: To be listened to and always be supported with a real interest and comprehension in whatever situation; • Challenge: To be at 7 AM at his place for breakfast with Ashwin to design the new Elseve sachet for Indonesia; • Extra-miles: To be with him at 6AM, 3627 meter above the sea on the top of Mount Rinjani (JC was exhausted but still smiling…).

Tanggung jawab baru yang akan saya hadapi ini menjadi suatu tantangan yang menarik karena zone ini berperan besar terhadap pencapaian misi grup L’Oréal untuk meraih 2 milyar consumen ke depannya.
The good news is that I will not cut the link, and my journey with Indonesia will continue! In my new role as CPD Zone Manager for South-East Asia & India, I will have the chance to visit you few times a year and continue to be an engine to your successful journey. With 2 billion consumers to look after, it’s a fascinating challenge ahead of me, while L’Oréal Group as a whole largely counts on this part of the world to grow.

Walaupun saya sudah mengenal Jean Christophe (JC) selama beberapa tahun, namun baru beberapa bulan belakangan ini saya berkesempatan untuk mengenalnya lebih dalam. Banyak manajermanajer hebat di L’Oréal pernah telah temui, namun pada JC saya temukan sosok profesional yang kuat, tajam dan tegas, yang memiliki ketelatenan untuk mengenal negara ini lebih jauh serta para karyawan yang bekerja dengannya. Kontribusinya membangun L’Oréal di Indonesia dan membuat Indonesia diperbincangkan di Kantor Pusat L’Oréal, benar-benar luar biasa. Selain itu JC juga merupakan sosok yang dermawan, ceria, ramah, dan hangat, serta tak segan berbagi pengalaman dengan tulus. Ia telah berhasil membangun brand, cara kerja, proses dan sistem baru yang telah membantu kita membentuk bisnis yang lebih kuat di Indonesia, dan tentunya juga membangun tim yang sangat kuat di sekelilingnya. Though I have known Jean Christophe (JC) for a few years, it’s only in the last few months that I have had the opportunity of knowing him more closely. While I have met a lot of good managers at L’Oréal, in JC I found a strong, sharp and determined professional who has the patience to understand the country and people he is working with. His contribution in putting L’Oréal on the map within Indonesia and L’Oréal Indonesia on the top of the mind within L’Oréal Headquarters is incomparable and absolute. He is also an amazingly generous and lively human being, happy to welcome people with warmth and share his experiences with complete sincerity. He has built brands, practices, processes and systems that will help us build a much stronger business in Indonesia but most of all he has built a very strong team around him, some of whom I have had the opportunity of meeting in the last few months. I am very happy to take the reins of the business from him and continue the excellent work in Indonesia, which is one of the most strategic markets for L’Oréal in the world. I am also honoured and looking forward to working with the teams that have been put into place by him.
I am absolutely confident facing the coming years in Indonesia, thanks to the strong foundations laid by this team under the leadership of JC. We will build one of the biggest businesses for L’Oréal in the world and acquire a very strong position in the Indonesian market. JC, I salute you and wish you the best in your career.

L’Oréal Indonesia telah mencapai tonggak sejarah baru sejak 2008. Bisnis kita meningkat 2,5 kali lipat dengan peningkatan pangsa pasar di hampir seluruh merek-merek yang dipasarkan. Pangsa pasar di Indonesia meningkat pesat dalam 4 tahun, dan kini kita menjadi perusahaan kosmetika terbesar nomor 3 di pasar Indonesia. Sungguh pencapaian luar biasa! Tidak hanya itu, Jean-Christophe juga berhasil mengubah lingkungan kerja L’Oréal Indonesia menjadi lebih baik lagi dan mengubah kinerja tim dengan pendekatan modern dan realistis. Ia pun telah mempersiapkan dan membangun generasi baru tim manajer yang lebih siap untuk menghadapi tantangan di masa mendatang. Seperti yang Anda ketahui, Vismay Sharma akan menggantikan posisi kepemimpinan ini mulai tahun 2012, untuk itu dengan gembira saya ucapkan kepada Vismay selamat datang di Indonesia dan semoga sukses dalam tanggung jawab baru ini. Dear L’Oréal Indonesia family, As Jean-Christophe is leaving Indonesia to take on new and important responsibilities for the Group, I want to thank him for the significant changes and improvements he has made during his 4 years as President Director of L’Oréal Indonesia. L’Oréal Indonesia has reached a new milestone since 2008. The business multiplied its turnover by 2.5 and gained market share on almost all of its brands and the Division’s brands. The market share in Indonesia has grown significantly in 4 times. Making us the third player in the Indonesian market. Excellent work! Not only that, Jean-Christophe has also transformed the working environment of L’Oréal Indonesia, modernized its organization and developed a solid team through his friendly approach. He prepared and developed a tougher new generation of managers which will be ready to tackle further challenges ahead.
As you know, Vismay Sharma will take over the position starting 2012, and I would like to welcome him and to wish him the best success in this new adventure. His experience with L’Oréal for the past 17 years will surely give him the confidence in his new role in the company. I personally would like to give my standing applause for both of them, for their loyal support in the L’Oréal journey.
