Ada beberapakarakteristikdalamtulisanilmiah, salahsatunyaadalahpenggunaanhedges. Hedges dapatdiartikansebagaisuatuekspresi yang digunakanolehpenulisilmiahuntukmengemukakanpendapatdengancara yang lebihhalusdandapatditerima (Hyland : 115). Penelitianinibertujuanuntuk: 1) mengidentifikasijenis-jenishedges yang digunakan di bagianKajianPustakapadaskripsimahasiswa Program StudiPendidikanBahasaInggris, FKIP UMK, 2) mengidentifikasijenisjenishedgesyang digunakan di bagianMetodologiPenelitianpadaskripsimahasiswa Program StudiPendidikanBahasaInggris, FKIP UMK. Penelitianinitermasukjenispenelitiandeskriptifkualitatif. Data daripenelitianiniadalahtipe-tipehedges di bagianKajianPustakadanMetodologiPenelitianpadaskripsimahasiswa Program StudiPendidikanBahasaInggris, FKIP UMK. Sedangkansumberdatanyaadalah 10 bagianKajianPustakadanMetodologiPenelitianpadaskripsimahasiswa Program StudiPendidikanBahasaInggris, FKIP UMK daritahun 2007-2011. Dari hasil analisis data diperoleh simpulan bahwa ada tujuh tipe hedges yang ditemukan di bagianKajianPustakadanenamtipehedges di bagianMetodologiPenelitianpadaskripsimahasiswa Program StudiPendidikanBahasaInggris, FKIP UMK. Tipe-tipeituadalahmodal auxiliary verbs, modal lexical verbs, adjectival, adverbial and nominal modal phrases, approximators of degree, quantity, frequency and time, introductory phrases, if clauses, compound hedges. Frekuensitipehedges yang ditemukan di bagianKajianPustakapadaskripsiadalahmodal auxiliary verb (58.9%), modal lexical verbs (4.9%), adjectival, adverbial and nominal modal phrases ( 2% ), approximators of degree, quantity, frequency and time (18.8% ), introductory phrases (9,2%), if clauses (4,6%), compound hedges (3,5%). Sedangkantipehedges yang ditemukan di bagianMetodologiPenelitianpadaskripsiadalahmodal auxiliary verb (64%), modal lexical verbs (11%),approximators of degree quantity, frequency and time (4% ), adjectival, adverbial and nominal modal phrases ( 2% ), introductory phrases (9%),if clauses (10%).Sedangkantipe Compound hedges tidakditemukandalambagiantersebut.Hasiltemuantersebutdapatditarikkesimpulanbah

waparapenulisskripsilebihsukamenggunakanmodal auxiliary verbketikamenuliskarenamerekainginmenunjukkankepercayaandiriterhadapkebenaran informasi. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian yang diperoleh, peneliti mengajukan saran-saran sebagai berikut: 1) Setiap mahasiswa dapat memahami dan menggunakan hedges dengan tepat tidak hanya dalam menulis skripsi tetapi juga dalam menulis jurnal, artikel, essay, dsb. 2) Dosen harus mengajarkan kepada mahasiswa bagaimana mengidentifikasi dan menggunakan hedges dengan tepat tidak hanya dalam menulis skripsi tetapi juga dalam menulis jurnal, artikel, essay, dsb. 3) Bagi peneliti selanjutnya yang tertarik dengan topik hedges disarankan tidak hanya menganalisis tipe-tipe hedges tetapi juga menganalisis fungsi hedges di bagian lain dari skripsi seperti Pendahuluan dan Pembahasan dan juga menganalisis jurnal, artikel, essay, dsb.
