ABSTRACT A lot of small power sources (dispersed sources) are going to be connected into LV an MV distribution networks in Slovakia. According to Distribution System Operators the impact of each individual dispersed source on the distribution system before its real connection has to be examined. The article deals with some experiences achieved during the examination of dispersed sources impact on distribution power system. Keywords: Dispersed Sources, Distribution Power System, Voltage Level, Short-Circuit.
1 INTRODUCTION New energy policy of European Union and development of new green technologies in electric power engineering led to increased interest in dispersed sources. To achieve maximum potential benefits of these sources in electrical power systems a serious network analysis leading to optimal size and placement of these sources becomes an important factor. Influence of distributed sources should be considered not only in real time, i.e. operative category, but in categories of long-term development of the power system and grid. [1] Connection of these sources to the distribution grid is realized under specific conditions and with using suitable procedure. These procedures are in the Slovak Republic specified by the Electrical Distribution System Operators [2]. The important factor before a real connection of a dispersed source is to examine the impact of this source on distribution power system. Usually the study about influence of a connected source on distribution power system includes: • technical characteristic of the source with technical parameters of transformers connecting this source with the grid; • analysing of real and reactive power flow and voltage profile in normal and contingency conditions; • impact of the new source on electrical power losses [4], [6]; • impact of the new source on loading of power lines and transformers operated within the distribution power system [5]; • short circuit power and current analysis at a connection point;
• specifying of influence of the connected source on energy quality (flicker, higher harmonics, impact on a level of signal of centralised control of loads); • analysis of chosen reliability indicators [3]. This study specifies connection conditions and leads to optimisation of the operation of the connected dispersed source within the electrical network. Next chapters show some experiences achieved during the examination of dispersed sources on voltage level and shortcircuit level in the distribution power system.
2 DESCRIPTION OF EXAMINED NETWORK The examined network is 22 kV (HV) distribution power network which is feeding with 110 kV power system through network transformer. Configuration of electrical network is in the Figure 1. The important electrical parameters for the network analysis are listed in the following tables. 3 RESULTS OF VOLTAGE LEVELS AND ACTIVE LOSSES ANALYSIS Steady-state calculation was realised under consideration that node signed in Fig. 1 as N 0 is a slack bus. Voltage difference in percent was calculated using the following formula:
220
EPE 2010, BRNO, CZECH REPUBLIC
∆u % =
U after connection − U before connection ⋅100 % U before connection
(1)
The following figures show the voltage values in all nodes of 22 kV network and a change of voltage levels after connection of hydroelectric power plant into different nodes.
in electrical nodes situated in a greater distance from the electrical substation ∆u% can exceed a value 2 %.
4 EXAMINATION OF VOLTAGE DIFFERENCE CRITERIA According to [2], in a case when it is only one point of the connection of a dispersed source or some dispersed sources in HV network it is possible the term (2) to exam on the basis a ratio of short-circuit power in the point of connection of a new source(s) SkV to a sum of maximal apparent powers SAmax of all new sourced planned to be connected. This ratio is given by the following formula:
k=

(3)
If there is only one connection point in HV electrical network the criteria of voltage increasing (2) is fulfilled always when the coefficient k is greater than 50 or the coefficient d is less than 2 %, where S (4) d = A max ⋅100 % S kV Results of values ∆u% and d for the connection of HEPP in nodes 1, 4, 6 according to network in Fig. 1 are presented in the following part. 4.1 Results of „ ∆u % “ calculation
Fig. 3 Voltage change in the nodes of 22 kV network Results displayed in Fig. 2 and listed in Tab. 6 show that increasing of electrical distance of the point of HEPP connection from the electrical substation 110/22 kV in a radial network leads to better voltage profile and to decreasing of active power losses in network. Order of nodes according to electrical distance from the electrical substation 110/22 kV is the following: 0, 1, 2, 7, 8, 3, 4, 5, 9, 10, 11, 12, 6. The Fig. 3 shows that a increasing of electrical distance of the point of HEPP connection from the electrical substation leads to increasing of voltage change in network nodes. One of the criterions for giving of the permission for connection of a new dispersed source into a distribution power system is to fulfil the term that increasing of voltage values resulting from the connection of the new dispersed source does not exceed 2 %, it means [2]: ∆u% ≤ 2 % (2) According to mentioned results it is important to note that in practice can occur situation that in the node of connection of a new dispersed source the term ∆u% ≤ 2 % is satisfied but
The calculation of voltage difference was realised for two cases in the network according to Fig. 1: Case A: We take into account the impedance of network feeder and the impedance of network transformer (slack bus on the 110 kV part of substation) Tab. 7 Results for HEPP connected at node 1, 4 and 6 Node 1 4 6
Voltage [kV] 22,805 22,461 22,204
∆u% [%] 0,026 0,317 0,662
Case B: We don`t take into account the impedance of network feeder and the impedance of network transformer (slack bus on the 22 kV part of substation) Tab. 8 Results for HEPP connected at node 1, 4 and 6 Node 1 4 6
Voltage [kV] 21,951 21,590 21,322

4.2 Results of coefficient „d“ calculation To calculate the coefficient d for the nodes of HEPP connection the short-circuit powers in the network according to Fig. 4 were determined. Short-circuit powers were calculated for two cases:

5 SUMMARY The article was focused on the analysis of one of the criteria which is important for the examination of giving the permission for a new dispersed source connection. This criterion is about determination of voltage change in a node of connection of a new dispersed source compared with the state before the connection. Presented results confirmed the validity of the term mentioned in the beginning of the chapter 4. It means that values ∆u% are less than values d for all examined nodes of HEPP connection. The results also show that a value of d considerably depends on a fact if network impedance and an impedance of network transformer are taking into account or not. A value of ∆u% also depends on a selection of slack bus in steady-state calculation but this dependency is not so noticeable. During the examination of fulfilment of the term ∆u% ≤ 2 % it is important to consider not only a value of voltage difference in the node of connection but in all network nodes, because this value is higher in a greater distance from the electrical substation which feeds the examined HV network.
