Cross Border Life Science Education
BIOLOGICAL CHEMISTRY Bachelor (BSc) Curriculum Start of Programme: October 1st, 2007 Educational Aims Designed following the Bologna guidelines as an interdisciplinary and international study program in Life Sciences, this Biological Chemistry curriculum offers broad education in the areas of chemistry, biochemistry, biology, biophysics, and related key disciplines of the 21st century.
Professional Qualification • Researcher o at academic, private and public research institutions o in pharmaceutical industry o in bioanalytical and environmental laboratories o in biomedicine o in medical diagnostic laboratories o in biotechnology
• Public administration o local, regional and European Agencies • Continuation Studies (Master Programs) o Molecular Biology o Biological Chemistry o Bioinformatics and subsequent PhD (doctorate) studies
Curriculum Complementary competences are provided by the two participating universities: Johannes Kepler University (JKU) South Bohemian University (SBU) in Linz, Austria in Budweis, Czech Republic Faculty of Engineering Faculty of Biological and Natural Sciences (TNF) Sciences (BF) In addition to education in the core subjects (chemistry, biochemistry and biology) as well as in the fundamentals of mathematics, informatics and physics multi-disciplinarity, networked thinking and communication skills will be promoted implicitly within this unique curriculum. Classical lectures and practical laboratory exercises will be supplemented with computer assisted learning (e-learning) and teaching approaches. The syllabus expects students to spend the first year at JKU and the second year at SBU. The third year will include courses and the bachelor theses, which may be conducted at either location. After successful participation in all courses and the bachelor theses, the academic degree of “Bachelor of Science” (BSc) will be obtained.
Zahájení programu: 1. října 2007 Vzdělávací cíle Nový studijní obor ”Biological Chemistry” jako interdisciplinární a mezinárodní/přeshraniční studijní obor z oblasti věd o živé přírodě (Life Sciences) vychází z Boloňské deklarace a nabízí široké vzdělání v chemii, biochemii, biologii, biofyzice a příbuzných disciplínách 21. století.
• Veřejná správa o Místní, regionální a evropské agentury • Navazující studium (magisterské programy) o Molekulární biologie o Biologická chemie o Bioinformatika a následující PhD (doktorská) studia
Charakteristika oboru Obě spolupracující univerzity vkládají do oboru Univerzita Johanna Keplera v Linci (JKU) Fakulta technologicko-přírodovědecká (TNF) Rakousko
doplňující se kompetence: Jihočeská univerzita v Českých Budějovicích (USB) Biologická fakulta (BF) Česka republika
Vedle vzdělání v profilových předmětech (chemie, biochemie a biologie) jakož i v základech matematiky, informatiky a fyziky bude v rámci tohoto jedinečného kurikula dbáno na multidisciplinaritu, komplexní myšlení a komunikační dovednosti. Klasické přednášky a praktická laboratorní cvičení budou doplněny počítačově zprostředkovanou výukou (”e-learning”) a vyučovacími přístupy. Na závěr úspěšného studia, absolvování kurzů a obhajoby bakalářských prací, obdrží absolventi studijního oboru akademický titul ”Bakalář” (Bc) respektive ”Bachelor of Science” (BSc).

LOCATIONS
Johannes Kepler University was founded in 1966. The university‘s orientation is determined by multidisciplinary variety and interdisciplinary cooperation in close contact with business and society. There are three faculties: Faculty of Social Sciences, Economics and Business (SOWI) Faculty of Law (RE) Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences (TNF)
JKU is the only university in Austria to offer this combination within a single campus with three student residences immediately nearby. It is the largest research and teaching institution in Upper Austria and contributes significantly to the development of the region. JKU has close links with industry is embedded in a network of international partner institutions. Fundamental and application oriented research are performed at the institutes of the TNF.
The University of South Bohemia (Jihoˇceská univerzita) was established in 1991 in the regional centre of the South Bohemia Region, the town of Cˇ eské Budeˇjovice, about 150 km south of Prague and 120 km north of Linz in Austria. Faculty of Agriculture Faculty of Biological Sciences (BF) Faculty of Economy Faculty of Health and Social Studies Pedagogical Faculty Philosphical Faculty Theological Faculty Institute of Physical Biology in Nove Hrady Research Institute of Fish Culture and Hydrobiology in Vodnany The BF is placed on the university campus on the western edge of the town. The campus includes student residences and Institutes of the Biology Centre of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. Research at the BF is focused on biology and ecology in accordance with the concept of ”integrative biology”, which puts strong emphasis on the evolutionary aspects of modern biology and ecology including molecular biological and biotechnological approaches.
