Key words: Writing ability, narrative text, Think Talk and Write strategy. The ability to compose the narrative text of the eighth grade students of SMP 1 Kalinyamatan Jepara is still low. Most of the students cannot develop their idea. When they want to start to write, they are confused to express their idea. Think Talk Write is a learning strategy which includes think activities seen when the student read the text, talk activities occurs when students interact in groups to discuss the contents notes and write activities seen in the process of writing the results of think and talk. This strategy in the form of open ended questions. Think Talk Write (TTW) Strategy is used to develop writing and practicing the language fluently before writing. The purposes of this research is to find out wether there is a significant difference between the writing ability in narrative text for the eighth grade students of SMP 1 Kalinyamatan Jepara in the academic year 2011/ 2012 before and after being taught by using Think Talk and Write Strategy. The research is done at the Eighth Grade Students of SMPN 1 Kalinyamatan Jepara. The design of this research is Quasi-Experimental research by using test instrument. The research subjects are the 36 students. The instrument used to collect the data is written test. All of students are given a pre-test, a test which is given before using Think Talk Write strategy, and after they get the treatment, the writer gives a post-test. The result of this research shows that: a) The writing ability in narrative text for the eighth grade students of SMP 1 Kalinyamatan Jepara before being taught by using Think Talk and Write Strategy is low. (Mean = 45.94 and Standard deviation = 10.28). b) The writing ability in narrative text for the eighth grade students of SMP 1 Kalinyamatan Jepara after being taught by using Think Talk and Write Strategy is good. (Mean = 67.72 and Standard deviation =15.02). There is a significant difference between the writing ability in narrative text for the eighth grade students of SMP 1 Kalinyamatan Jepara before and after being taught by using Think Talk and Write Strategy. (t0 = 7.19) The difference between the writing ability in narrative text for the eighth grade students of SMP 1 Kalinyamatan Jepara in the academic year 2011/ 2012 before and after taught by using Think Talk and Write Strategy is significant. So, using Think Talk Write in teaching writing ability in narrative text needs to be applied increase the student’s ability in writing. After knowing the result of this

research that the writing ability in narrative text of the eighth grade students after using Think Talk Write is higher than that before being taught by using Think Talk Write strategy. The teacher can use Think Talk Write as the one of the strategy to teach writing ability in narrative text.

Sebagian besar siswa tidak dapat mengembangkan ide mereka. Ketika mereka ingin memulai untuk menulis, mereka bingung untuk mengekspresikan ide mereka. Think Talk Write adalah strategi pembelajaran yang meliputi kegiatan berpikir yang dapat dilihat ketika siswa membaca teks, kegiatan berbicara terjadi ketika siswa berinteraksi dalam kelompok untuk membahas isi catatan dan menulisnya dalam catatan kecil dari hasil berpikir dan berbicara tadi, dan strategi ini membentuk materi dalam bentuk pertanyaan yang berakhir dengan pola pikir yang terbuka. Think Talk Write (TTW) Strategi ini digunakan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan menulis dan praktek berbicara dengan lancar sebelum menulis. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah ada perbedaan yang signifikan antara kemampuan menulis dalam teks narasi bagi siswa kelas delapan SMP 1 Kalinyamatan Jepara pada tahun akademik 2011/2012 sebelum dan sesudah diajarkan dengan menggunakan strategi Think Talk Write . Penelitian ini dilakukan pada Siswa Kelas VIII SMPN 1 Kalinyamatan Jepara. Rancangan penelitian ini adalah Quasi-experimental research (eksperimen semu) dengan menggunakan instrumen tes. Subyek penelitian adalah keseluruhan siswa, yang terdiri dari 36 siswa. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data adalah tes tertulis. Semua siswa diberi pre-test, tes yang diberikan sebelum menggunakan Think Talk Write strategi, dan setelah mereka mendapatkan pelatihan, penulis lalu memberikan post-test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: a) kemampuan menulis dalam teks narasi bagi siswa kelas delapan SMP 1 Kalinyamatan Jepara sebelum diajarkan dengan menggunakan strategi Think Talk Write adalah rendah. (Mean = 45,94 dan Standard deviasi = 10,28). b) Kemampuan menulis dalam teks narasi bagi siswa kelas delapan SMP 1 Kalinyamatan Jepara setelah diajarkan dengan menggunakan strategi Think Talk Write adalah baik. (Mean = 67,72 dan Standard deviasi = 15,02). Ada perbedaan yang signifikan antara kemampuan menulis dalam teks narasi bagi siswa kelas delapan SMP 1 Kalinyamatan Jepara pada tahun akademik 2011/2012 sebelum dan sesudah diajarkan dengan menggunakan Think Talk Write Strategi. (T0 = 7.19)

Perbedaan antara kemampuan menulis dalam teks narasi bagi siswa kelas delapan SMP 1 Kalinyamatan Jepara pada tahun akademik 2011/2012 sebelum dan sesudah diajarkan dengan menggunakan strategi Think Talk Write adalah signifikan. Jadi, dengan menggunakan strategi Think Talk Write dalam kemampuan mengajar menulis dalam teks naratif perlu diterapkan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam menulis. Setelah mengetahui hasil penelitian bahwa kemampuan menulis dalam teks narasi siswa kelas delapan setelah menggunakan strategi Think Talk Write itu lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan sebelum diajarka, guru dapat menggunakan Think Talk Write sebagai salah satu strategi untuk mengajar menulis kemampuan dalam teks naratif.
