Přečtěte si pět krátkých textů. Na základě informací v textech vyberte k úlohám 24–28 vždy jednu správnou odpověď A–D. Did you know what colour Coca-Cola could be? Coca-Cola would be green if colouring weren’t added to it. Can you believe it? Although this fact is widely distributed throughout the Internet, it’s not true. At no time in CocaCola’s history has the beverage been green. The original formula called for caramel to give Coca-Cola its rich brown colour, and although the recipe has undergone some changes through the years, none of them affected the ultimate colour of the product. So if there wasn’t any colouring, Coca-Cola would only be a bit lighter! (www.didyouknow.it, upraveno)

ÚLOHY 29–38
The Mark Twain Boyhood Home & Museum really includes many different buildings. Buy one ticket and get admission to all of them, including the Interpretive Center; Huckleberry Finn, Mark Twain, and Becky Thatcher houses; Grant’s Drugstore; and the Museum Gallery. The Mark Twain Boyhood Home & Museum is located on Hill Street, Hannibal, Missouri on the west bank of the Mississippi River in the United States. It was the home of Samuel Langhorne Clemens from 1844 to 1853. Clemens, better known as author Mark Twain, found the inspiration for many parts of his stories, including the white picket fence, while living here. It has been open to the public as a museum since 1912. It became a national historic landmark on December 29, 1962. Buildings: There are six museum buildings as part of the complex. The museum recently bought the Becky Thatcher House. During the summer of 2006, the museum completed work on a replica of the Huck Finn House (home of Tom Blankenship, the boy upon whom Twain based the character of Huckleberry Finn). The Huckleberry Finn House: The house was destroyed in 1911, but the original materials were saved to build it again. Museum workers later found actual photographs of Tom Blankenship’s house to reconstruct it in 2005. The Mark Twain Boyhood Home: Mark Twain’s own home was built around 1843, and the family lived here for about 10 years. It was completely reconstructed in the early 1900s, but none of the original family furniture was saved. Today, the house is a gift shop, where you can buy the books he wrote, plus postcards, T-shirts and famous paintings. The Becky Thatcher House was the childhood home of Laura Hawkins, a real girl who Mark Twain used as a model for the character called Becky Thatcher. The rooms contain original toys, clothing, and furniture for children. There are large play areas where visitors can try using some of the toys themselves. It also serves as a bookstore and gift shop. Grant’s Drugstore was a real pharmacy when Mark Twain was growing up. Twain’s family didn’t have enough money to stay in their home, so they moved into rooms above this drugstore to save money. The 1st floor is built exactly like the pharmacy was, with shelves of medicines and other items that were for sale in Grant’s Drugstore, but it’s been a long time since the last customer came here. It stopped selling items in 1855. The Museum Gallery has exhibits that you can try for yourself, e.g. painting a wooden fence, exploring a small cave or riding a small ‘raft’. The upstairs rooms are built like the top of a steamboat. Here you can ring the warning bells and turn the great captain’s wheel, which was used to guide a real riverboat on the Mississippi River in the past. Things to remember while exploring the museum: Restrooms are located in the Interpretive Center and the Museum Gallery. Photos are allowed in all of the museum’s buildings. Your ticket is good for the entire day, so feel free to tour at your leisure! We suggest at least 1 to 1 1/2 hours to view the whole complex. (www.en.wikipedia.org, upraveno)

Přečtěte si dopis, který píše Matt své tetě Jessice. Na základě informací v textu vyberte k úlohám 39–43 vždy jednu správnou odpověď A–D.
Dear Aunt Jessica, Well, it’s raining today so I’m staying in and writing to you, after a long time. I think there’s no point in my apologizing, because you know me well enough to understand. So far this school year has been really busy. Last summer I started playing baseball for the first time, and we won the student baseball league at the end of October. We won 11 games and lost only one. And I must say that it was much better than winning a baseball game on the computer. In early November my brother Tim and I drove north to Toronto, Canada, to watch a game of the World Baseball Classic. We were lucky to have front-row seats. I could almost touch the players! I was hoping to shake a player’s hand, but of course they were too busy. But something exciting did happen. One of them hit the ball wrongly, and it came right to me and landed in my hands! Last September my girlfriend Christina started taking guitar lessons, and she’s pretty good. We took the train to nearby Columbus to see her favourite singer Taylor Swift in concert. We ate at a famous sushi restaurant, and then at the concert we had really good seats. In fact, when Taylor came through the crowd, Christina got to shake her hand! She was really excited. I had a good time because Christina was so happy. This winter I’m going to play basketball again, as always. I like watching it on television too. That won’t leave me too much time for homework, but I hope I‘ll find some time to get on the computer for some gaming. I guess you still haven’t learned to use a computer, or we could email instead of writing. Well, I guess that’s all my news for now. I hope this letter finds you in good spirits and good health. Have a nice Christmas, and maybe we’ll get out there to visit you sometime next summer. Take care, Matt (CERMAT)
