1. Introduction: Welcome to the international week! We are building a tradition of bringing multidisciplinary expertise together once a year, in order to inspire local and international students and share expertise and experiences as colleagues. As a student you will be inspired to work together in multidisciplinary teams and generate innovative but also appliclable ideas and concepts. The International Week will focus on Growing Green Cities; including the themes of Health, Social Cohesion, Green Tech and (Social) Entrepreneurship.
Growing Green Cities Increasing urbanization is driving us to search for alternatives to keep cities healthy and attractive, for now and for future generations. In 2022 the City of Almere is hosting the world horticultural exhibition, called the Floriade 2022. The Floriade will lead to a new green district in the center of the city: Almere Floriade. Growing Green Cities is not only the theme of the Floriade, but is also a movement underway in Almere. Thanks to Growing Green Cities, Almere is a local test bed where ideas can be put into practice! Windesheim University of Applied Sciences invites students & teaching staff to join this movement during the International Week 2016.

3. Challenges During the week all students will work in small multidisciplinary groups on one of the following challenges:
Health
1. Our society is rapidly changing. Citizens are expected to actively participate in society. Vulnerable citizens are in need of support, guidance and care. The way this is organized is subject to changes as a result of various developments like ageing and maturing. According to expectations, our current healthcare system could become prohibitively expensive. Ehealth is an upcoming phenomenon which is currently being deployed by several organizations. Challenge: How can e-health contribute to the lives of vulnerable target groups and in what way can e-health play a part in personally tailored care within the new district. 2. One hundred shelter accommodations for refugees with a residence permit will be situated in the new Floriade district. It is a fact that refugees struggle with health issues and the consequences of trauma. Research shows that refugees benefit from preventive treatment which could positively affect the current healthcare system. Challenge: What attention is necessary for the (psychological) health of refugees and how can this be organized within the new district?
Social Cohesion
3. Almere will develop a new green city district (Floriade area), a completely new area with new residents. Challenge: How can we ensure that inhabitants of this new neighborhood feel connected with their fellow residents and their own living environment from the very start? 4. There are institutes that can play a role in promoting social cohesion among the residents of neighborhoods of a growing city. Challenge: In order to strengthen mutual commitment, how can a school contribute to the development of social capital in a neighborhood?
Green Tech
This GreenTech challenge is about how inhabitants can climate proof their own neighbourhood, using SMART world principles, taking water-energy-food nexus into account. 5. Think about what a climate proof neighbourhood will look like? What types of technological and social change (trends) are needed to accomplish the above goal? What skills are needed? Challenge: Try to build a vision of what this Floriade neighbourhood will look like 10 years from now. 6. Imagine in an original yet feasible manner how the Floriade neighbourhood can acquire the technology , the social change & skills that are needed to climate proof the neighbourhood. Challenge: How can the primary schools contribute to innovative solutions and behaviour of people in relation to climate control and make people (including children) more aware of the need to change behaviour?
5
(Social) Entrepreneurship
7. Almere will develop a new green city district (Floriade area), a completely new area with new residents. This neighborhood will include several restaurants. The challenge is to create a sustainable business model for a new restaurant in the Floriade district. 8. The new Floriade district is also a place where entrepreneurship can be put into practice. The challenge is to Grow your own business; come up with a concept for a new product or service. In can be anything you can imagine, but do keep in mind that your business idea does not only generate profit but also takes the planet and people into account.

In support of your team and for consultation purposes, there are teachers and lecturers available for each challenge. Find out in which room you may find assistants for your challenge. Make sure to ask for the support you and your team need, that is what they are there for. It is up to you and your team to decide where to work on your challenge, although it may be to your advantage with all the facilities that Windesheim Flevoland University provides. It is not required, however, that you work at school. Questionnaire Growing Green Cities You have received a questionnaire about Growing Green Cities. Please fill in the list of questions together with your team, because it is important that you express your mutual thoughts. Allow for enough time to set up and for scanning purposes! Each team wil receive 20 “like” stickers. Each team will be divided in 2 groups, one group of 2 and one group of 3 members. The first 45 minutes, one group will walk around and give “likes” to the best products of another challenge where the other group members will stay at the standing table to present their product and try to receive as many “likes” as possible. After 45 minutes the roles will be reversed. One team per theme, with the most “likes” will proceed to the next round. There will now be 4 team winners, one per theme. A formal 4-headed jury consisting of the Wethouder van Onderwijs, the Programma Manager van Growing Green Cities, the Directeur van Urban Greeners and the Directeur van Windesheim Flevoland will select the final winner. The winners may participate in the study trip (free of charge) to Napier University Edinburgh (our partner University) in the spring break (from 29 February until 5 March 2016). Formal evaluation will be carried out by a team of lecturers. They will examine the results and determine if you have met and passed all requirements of the International Week. Please see section 7 of this document for the formal requirements of your presentation. After the award ceremony the international week will end. We hope you will have enjoyed an interesting and fun-filled week!

A list of useful sources is made with notes and references. Short summary of the possible solution is made, together with an explanation of the feasibility. The form of visual presentation is chosen. The final presentation is made and rehearsed. Make sure all the requirements are met.
