1. THE ACTIVITIES OF THE FOUNDATION IN THE YEAR 2007 1.1 Our results in 2007 The CSODALÁMPA Alapítvány was founded in 2003 and the first wish came true in November 2003. The number of realised wishes increased year by year and in 2007 we made 223 seriously sick children happy.

The wishes are documented – text and pictures - on our homepage from the moment we receive them until they are fulfilled. See www.csodalampa.hu According to the domicile of the children we fulfilled wishes from all over the country as we did in the past years. The place of residence and the place where the wish was fulfilled can be different as there are cases when we can only deliver the present in the hospitals and, in some cases; celebrities visited the hospitals to make the wishes come true. In 2007 there were five wishes fulfilled which belonged to children of Hungarian origin living outside of Hungary but having medical treatment here. Some of the wishes could only be fulfilled abroad. These wishes were exceptions where we needed additional help to reach our goals. The next chart shows the distribution of fulfilled wishes by domicile. The detailed list of the wishes can be found in Appendix 3.

In 2007 there were more wishes for material items than before. The world of children receiving medical treatment is very often limited to objects e.g. the toys and games that are found in the hospital or can be seen in TV commercials. The children often wish to have those objects that the family can’t afford to buy but provide a connection between the family and the children such as a mobile phone or laptop, which were requested mostly by older children before entering the ’sterile room’ for months. Thanks to our sponsors, this year we were able to provide 42 PCs 26 laptops and 7 mobile phones in addition to other material presents such as 9 bicycles, dolls, etc. One of the main goals of our foundation is to give hope and strength to the children and their parents with the fulfillment of an “unimaginable” wish and to enlarge the closed world that sick children live in day by day. Due to our strategy that was established in 2005, our volunteers visit patients several times, sometimes in hospitals, to discuss their wishes. In lots of cases the real wishes are different from the ones that first came to mind. Maybe instead of a PC, a visit from a favourite sports player or actor would be more appreciated.

Despite our efforts the number of wishes “to get something” increased from 66% in 2006 to 78% in comparison to the total number of fulfilled wishes. The high number of requests for IT equipment is due partly to the fact that it provides a facility to keep in touch with family and friends. Most of the children are private students and this equipment provides help to follow lessons and write homework.
1.2. Media relations, competitions and the 1% campaign 1.2.1 Media appearances
In 2007 Csodalámpa was in the national media several times promoting its wishgranting activities. You can see on our website that there were more than 50 appearances in media publications including the Internet, N k Lapja (Women’s Weekly), Zsaru Magazin (Cop’s Magazine) and MR1 (Hungarian State Radio 1). Our homepage – www.csodalampa.hu reflected all our major appearances: from the 20-30 visitors per day – the average of last year- increased by ten times in 2007.

The positive effect of our media appearances can be felt in lots of cases. The companies which we have asked for help have already heard about Csodalámpa. There were numerous cases when, after mentioning the name of our foundation we got positive feed back and moreover substantial discounts. The variety of our media appearances is thanks to our PR advisor, Prominent Communications Kft.
1.2.2 The result of our 1% campaigne in 2007. 1 As a result of the 1% campaign our foundation became the 30th – in comparison with 88th place last year – among about 21,000 organisations, which can receive funds from the 1% of the tax. This result shows that our media campaign outlining our goals and activities was successful. We were able to use the funds for the campaign very efficiently due to our sponsors and media relations. The short film that was prepared for the campaign was seen in numerous cinemas in Budapest, most of the shopping centres throughout the country and at some petrol stations thanks to our sponsors. The only newspaper advertisment was “Helyi Théma” (free local paper) as it was distributed in each and every district during the campaign. The HUF 20 million, which we received as the result of the 2006 1% campaign, is an essential part of our income and will have a significant impact in funding the 2008 wishes. The HUF 6.5 million, which was received in 2006, was used to fund the wishes in 2007. The 1% campaign will have a strategic role in 2008 as well and therefore we expect to receive a higher sum than in 2007. 1
In Hungary the private taxpayer is entitled to direct 1% of his/her - after the previous year - paid income tax to a civil organisaton (NGO) of his choice.

1.2.3 Tenders We have few possibilities for public tenders due to the fact that our model is ‘one wish = one project’. In 2007 our tender with the Nemzeti Civil Alapprogram (National Civil Baseprogramme) for operating costs was, once again, successful. The Hungarian Telekom’s Donation Line (this is a number you dial and directly donate 100 HUF to the foundation) sponsored our foundation in November and December 2007 due to the tender that we won. The results will be transferred to us only in 2008. We are going to screen further possibilities in 2008 as well and we would like to take all the chances to win new sponsors for our activities.
1.3. International relations In 2007 there were 14 wishes that could only be fulfilled abroad and we were successful in meeting these. The countries included: Croatia, France, Austria and the wishes varied from seaside holidays to caressing dolphins and London sightseeing. These needed a lot of organisation. Most of the costs were covered by our sponsors who helped us on a ‘project basis’.
1.4. Events in 2007 There were numerous events organised in 2007 either for fundraising or for PR reasons. -

Bringónap2: on Margaret Island – as usual! – the Bringohintó company made it possible that for one day our volunteers could run the business and the total income of that day was donated for running our foundation. We were able to continue to develop Csodalámpás Könyvsarkok (Wonderlamp reading corners), thanks to one of our sponsors - Libri Könyvkereskedelmi Kft. With their help we were able to open reading corners at the two Childrens Clinic inBudapest and at Pécs and Szeged. In addition we were able to refresh the reading corners, which we opened in last year and where the books have became worn over time. By the feedback of the hospitals’ staff we achieved our goal of providing alternatives to children to kill time rather than watching television. The reading corners have become popular among young and older children to pass the days while they are in hospital.

We particpated in the highly popular N k Lapja Hétvége (Women’s Weekly Weekend) on Margaret island, where we were able to introduce our foundation to hundreds of visitors. Teatime for our sponsors In November, for the second time, we invited our sponsors (private people as well as the CEO’s of the companies sponsoring our foundation) for a friendly discussion in the Royal Café - thanks to the owners of Szamos Marcipán. There were more than a hundred participants. We presented the yearly results of our foundation and thanked them for their help over the year. To organise this successfull event we got help from all our volunteers around Budapest and all the Directors and Members of the Supervisory Board.
1.5 Volunteers The number of volunteers working for us within the county regulary is still around 35 – 40 people. At the end of the year we have represetatives in Szeged, Debrecen, Miskolc, Pécs, Szombathely and Gy r. The heads of the regions are constantly in contact with the local childrens’ clinic, doctors, children and local sponsors. Our goal is that, within 2008, to make their work easier by providing a mobile phone paid for by the foundation for the organisation of the fulfillment of wishes.
2. Operating conditions in 2007 Our office is running in the same place with the same conditions. There were no large-scale investments in 2007. It is our volunteers who maintain and develop our IT system but in this field we struggle with a serious lack of capacity. The foundation operated with 2 full time staff (the managing director and an adminstrator), but this is obviously not enough due to the increased number of the wishes and the administrative obligations in the second half of the year. Based on the decision of the Board, from 2008 there will be an additional half time worker hired. The new administrator will take over the coordination and management of our volunteer network. We hope to be able to solve all our management issues with this increase in staff. The salary of the Managing Director was financed in 2005 by a sponsor. This was settled in advance for 3 consecutive years. The unutilised part of this sum will be used as a provision against future costs. The administrator’s salary was paid from the foundation’s own funds. There was no other salary payment or other personal costs covered in 2007 to anyone by the foundation. The funds for running the foundation were raised from successful tenders, the Bringónap and from private and institutional sponsors. The 1% of the income tax was not used to cover operational costs. 7
8 In 2007 we introduced a new income earning method. The 4M Kft. used the logo of Csodalámpa under licence as a trademark on Christmas charity cards. There were more than 20,000 cards sold, which not only gave an income to the foundation but had significant PR value as the cards were received by thousands of new potential partners.
2.1 Report about the usage of the Foundation’s funds (shortened) We have spent 10.8 Million HUF (43,000 EUR) (invoice value incl. VAT) of our own funds on wish granting, plus we have received and used donations and services “in kind” of about 6.4 Million HUF, that could not be put into our balance sheet. This means that in 2007 we have “transmitted” about 17 Million HUF (68,000 EUR) value to our 223 wish-children. Considering the average costs of a wish granting on “market price” level it has reached about 77,000 HUF/wish, WITHOUT the operating costs (like phones, travel, wages, etc.). The average cost, based on invoice value only has been 48,000 HUF (192 EUR), considerably higher then last year, mainly because of more expensive “to get something” type wishes and wishes involving travelling abroad. The gross average cost of one fulfilled wish – including all operating costs - in 2007 reached 136,000 HUF (544 EUR).

9 In 2007 we received more than 21 Million HUF (84,000 EUR) in donations from private persons and companies that enabled us to fulfil the wishes at a higher quality level, including the purchase of new PCs and laptops. In 2007 the foundation received 40 Million HUF (160,000 EUR) in donations as new funding, that figure includes, of course, the 19.7 Million HUF (78,800 EUR) that has come from our 1% campaign. The funds not immediately required have been kept in guaranteed assets, like treasury bills. Due to this policy we have earned 772,000 HUF (3,088 EUR) as interest income.
2.1.2 Operating costs The operating costs of the Foundation reached 19.5 Million HUF (78,000 EUR) in 2007. The biggest “burden” is, of course, the wages and compulsory taxes (pension, healthcare, income tax payable by the employer) almost 8 Million HUF, the costs of communication (telecommunication, marketing and PR) and the travelling costs directly related to wish granting. The total salaries include the salary of the Managing Director, which has been covered by a special donation in 2005 from UniCreditbank Hungary. This year we have used 5.6 Million HUF for this purpose, the funds are being kept in a separate account. Looking at the details, the average telephone cost of one fulfilled wish was about 8,000 HUF and the travelling costs about 5,000 per wish.
2.2 Supports from the state budget or local authorities The Wonderlamp Foundation received 19.5 Million HUF funds from the 1% campaign in 2007. The Foundation receives no support or funds from local or minority authorities or their agents. Through an application for a grant from the NCA (National Civil Base-programme) the Foundation has been granted an amount of 2.9 Million HUF for operating costs that will be fully used and accounted for during the first half of 2008.
2.3. Allowances of the Directors and Members of the Supervisory Board The Directors and the Members of the Supervisory Board received no allowances either monetary or in kind - in 2007.

2.4 Simplified financial – public beneficiary - report for 2007 Unlike in the simplified financial report for 2006, the Foundation shows among the “other expenditure” the direct costs of wish grantings, and shows the income from the “1%” among the deferred other liabilities.

The goal of the Foundation (excerpt from the Charter): The goal of the Foundation is to fulfil wishes of children aged between 3 and 18 years and suffering from a life threatening illness and whose family is not able to fulfil these wishes due to the lack of their own funds. The Foundation tries to ensure that a child suffering from a serious disease, will be happier and more carefree for a while, and through this the child and the family will regain their belief in recovery from the disease. The Foundation’s activities are in accordance with the Law CLVI. 26.§: social activity, family help, children and youngsters’ protection.
