Introduction
In September 2010, the questionnaire “Overwegingen bij het doen van boodschappen” (Considerations with regard to going shopping) was fielded in the LISS panel for the second time. The questionnaire was presented to 929 panel members aged 18-60, who have not yet retired and possess a driving license. During field work period an additional 496 repondents were invited to fill out the questionnaire. Of the selected respondents, 613 fully completed the questionnaire (response percentage 65.0%). The questionnaire had two conditions (E-commerce and Risky), the first introduces an online store as one of the possible 'store locations. The Risky condition lacks this option and also underlines the more difficult situation in the scenario described. In this condition a new employer comes along for dinner and the respondent needs special ingredients that he or she doesn’t have at the moment. Only the CNET procedure (Causal Network Elicitation Technique) was used during this survey. No attributes or benefits were shown to the respondents, they had to type in their own arguments for each dimension (Choice of mode of transport, shop location and time of shopping), which then were matched to the list of attributes and benefits using an algorithm. For each answer they entered they then either got a list of similar attributes or benefits, from which they could then choose the option closest to their own answer. All panel members were shown the introductory screens in the same order (Time, Location & Mode of transport), though the content differed per condition. Besides this all attributes and benifits of the different subjects were randomized. For a full overview of all attributes and associated advantages (plus matching labels) see Chapter 4.

Codebook
This codebook contains the questionnaire as administered to the LISS panel. Variable names: The variable names are printed in bold and correspond to the names in the dataset. Routing: The questionnaire routing is printed in italics for each variable concerned. Open: answer box (no limit to the length of the answer). String: answer box allowing a certain number of characters (standard is 255). Numerical variables: If ranges were used, these are printed in italics in the codebook if the respondent could not see them on the screen. If the respondent was able to see the ranges, the variables are printed in normal letter. Integer: If a question is not subject to any limit (integer), no range is indicated. ‘Fills’ (variable text) are given between straight brackets []. If a respondent was not obliged to answer a question, this is indicated in the codebook as ‘empty’. Variables in between curly brackets {} are not part of the dataset, but the corresponding questions or text were part of the questionnaire. nomem_encr1 Number of the household member encrypted. random variable eb10b001 Experimental condition2 3 CNET e-commerce 4 CNET risky eb10b003 Decision variable to which either the attribute or advantage is linked. 0 A-B-link is added in the subsequent step 1 choice of mode of transport 2 time at which to go shopping 3 choice of shop location

{intro1} Welcome to this study This study is about the considerations people have when making choices with respect to mode of transport shop location time at which to go shopping, when it comes to the daily grocery shopping on a normal week day. Please complete this questionnaire in a single sitting; it is not possible to take a break from it. Also, in this questionnaire it is not always possible to go back one or more steps to change an answer. {intro2} What is this about? When, on any regular week day, you need to plan your activities, you will also need to made decisions regarding mode of transport, location and time. We would like to know what considerations play a role in making such decisions. Important: we are not so much interested in the actual decisions, but in the considerations that lead up to them. if eb10b001 = 4 Time of going shopping Suppose you started a new job in another town and you had to move to that town as a result. The map displayed on the left shows the location of your new home and of your new work place. You have a job for 8 hours a day with a flexible starting time, and you can take a lunch break of one hour at most. Tonight you have your new boss invited for dinner at your home. For the dishes you prepare for this special occasion you need special ingredients that you do not have at the moment so you should buy them today. You are free in the choice of time of shopping: during the lunch break directly after work later in the evening What are your considerations when choosing the time at which you will do your daily grocery shopping?

if eb10b001 = 4 Location of grocery shopping
Your town offers three locations where you can do your daily grocery shopping: a small shop in your neighborhood a large supermarket in the suburbs a weekly market in the town center The products on your shopping list are available at each location and throughout the day.
What are your considerations when choosing the location where you will do your daily grocery shopping? if eb10b001 = 4 Mode of transport Assume that you have at your disposal a car, and a bicycle. All locations can furthermore be reached using frequently running buses. Each mode of transport lets you use a direct route without major detours, with a travelling time of between 10 and 15 minutes. What are your considerations when choosing the mode of transport? There’s a car and a bicycle available to you. Besides this buses run frequently. With every vehicle you can take a direct route without long detours with a journey time of 10 to 15 minutes. The weather is nice.

What are your considerations when choosing the mode of transport? eb10b004 - eb10b006 Which decision will you make first? As you see, the overall task requires several decisions. It is up to you to determine which decision comes first, which comes second, and so on. Please indicate below in what order you would make these decisions. Use the mouse to left-click on a decision and drag it up or down to the place where it belongs. If the decisions are already placed in the right order for you, then you just need to briefly move any one decision to another spot, and then put it back in its place again to continue with the questionnaire.
