In de grotezaalproductie In common is het publiek observator, in We are still watching deelnemer.
FR - Dans l’œuvre d’Ivana Müller, le titre dévoile chaque fois le concept du spectacle : How Heavy Are My Thoughts, Playing Ensemble Again And Again, 60 Minutes of Opportunism et While We Were Holding It Together.
EN - As part of the programme on ‘the collective’, Kaaitheater presents two productions by Müller, both on the same evening. The fundamental question they ask is what happens when people come together, how do we relate to and in a group? In the production In common the audience is the observer and in We are still watching it is the participant. In Ivana Müller’s work the title always contains the concept of the performance: How Heavy Are My Thoughts, Playing Ensemble Again And Again, 60 Minutes of Opportunism and While We Were Holding It Together. Müller always manages to give shape to the power of language to influence our reality, in a way that is both playful and philosophical.
WE ARE STILL WATCHING NL - In We are still watching staat het publiek centraal: een uitgeschreven script leidt de toeschouwers langs onverwachte scènes en situaties. EN - In We are still watching the audience plays a central role: a written script guides the audience through unexpected scenes and situations. By spending an hour together and making only joint decisions, a community is formed and acted out. In this miniature society created over and over again, everyone slowly but surely acquires his own role.

EN - Ten performers present countless variations on what a ‘common body’ can mean. While the players seek a movement unison, a consensus between all these different bodies, they get caught up in positions and problems that are found in any democratic system. Can a group of people represent one idea? What we represent and how we are represented are the central questions in this piece, in which a series of choreographic rules make up an ingenious game that revolves around our society.

"We are still watching is een doorleesrepetitie. Finally together on time is deels lezing, deels performance. Dans is beweging.
THE IDEA BEHIND WE ARE STILL WATCHING “The idea for We Are Still Watching came in 2011 when in The Netherlands and in some other countries in Europe some serious changes in the cultural policy happened. While writing the script and imagining the communities that will read it, we were trying to reflect on the idea of theatre and its place in the contemporary society and at the same time we were working with the problem of « participation », both in theatre and outside of it. In Dutch, and many other European languages, the word « voice » is the same as the word « vote ». In general it is believed that to « vote » means to be political, or at least to be civic. That is what most of contemporary democracies promote. But curiously, and somewhat paradoxically, with the act of voting we give our “political voice” to someone else… someone who we don’t necessarily know or often someone that is least bad on the list of names we hardly know. We give our voice and then we possibly become politically mute… In We Are Still Watching the role of spectators-readers coincide with the role of citizens-voters. One of the questions that we kept asking ourselves when working on this performative proposition was: How to stay political in an extremely scripted and seemingly “well organized” society? How to observe differently in order to have different ideas….”

• ZOO / Thomas Hauert MONO In MONO Hauert once again proves himself to be a master in mixing composed and improvised passages. He is accompanied on stage by six dancers from his company and the violist Noémie Bialobroda. Together they provide the sound and movement in a space that endlessly rearranges itself. They cause a short circuit in our rational thinking and immerse us in a sensitive and empathic experience. Dance - 18 & 19/03/2014 - 20:30 - Kaaitheater • Jonathan Burrows & Matteo Fargion Show And Tell + Rebelling Against Limit Jonathan Burrows and Matteo Fargion present two lecture concerts, unravelling and questioning the ideas that sustain and confuse them. Show And Tell is about performance itself, exploring the hidden influences that have led to a growing body of duets made together over many years. Revealing the vital role that mimicry plays in creative process, Burrows and Fargion compose a presentation of formative images and sounds. Rebelling Against Limit is the flip side of the coin, being a rant about structure, accompanied by live piano pieces and disintegrating cartoons.
