About Deddy PAW Deddy PAW was born in Magelang, Central Java, Indonesia on October 18 th, 1963. He paints actively since 1999. The graduate of Painting Study Program from the Faculty of Art of the Jakarta Arts Institute formerly was an art journalist of Daily Media Indonesia. He was the Artistic Editor and Editor of Art for 16 years since 1989 of this nationwide newspaper published in Jakarta. Since 2003, the theme of “enigmatic apple” has been the foundation of his works creation. The term enigmatic is used based on consideration of the nature of symbolic expressions in his works which provoke questions, mistery, or riddle around apple in context of human existence problem. The symbolic meaning of apple is related prominently to the messages of goodness attached to apple's image with human universal context (love, passion, enjoyment, peace, hope, etc.), as well as the aspects of evil and temptation beyond its beauty potential. Deddy's paintings have set out dominantly from still-life area (the apple fruit), with symbolic language point of understanding. The phenomenon of shape has been approached as a system and symbolistic code of representation. Shape and space later inclines to present as organization set in various different context.
In Deddy's works, apple does not stop merely as a model as is often the case with still-life paintings of the Western tradition. And, in Deddy's works apple is not just apple (a fruit), but it may symbolizing mankind or human being, a nation, a country, a principle, a teaching, an idealism, a hope, an ideal, etc depends on context to be ‘discussed’. The painter who had won many art awards had more than 100 times engaged in group exhibitions in Indonesia. He had also participated in more than 20 exhibitions in Art Fair and Biennale outside his country. Some of them were in Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, South Korea, Taiwan, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, China, USA, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Egypt, and French. This 2017, he is going to join several group exhibitions, among others, in Taipei (Taiwan), Singapore, and Gardur (Iceland). Deddy PAW had eight times arranged his solo exhibitions in prominent galleries in Indonesia. In 2009 he had a solo exhibition held at Art Seasons Gallery in Singapore.
