A very warm welcome to all of you! It is with great pleasure that I welcome choruses and quartets from both Holland Harmony and DABS who will be competing this weekend. It will be an exciting competition with quite a few new choruses and quartets. You all know exactly what to do, how to do it and the only thing left is to really do it! So, go and have a wonderful time on stage! I would like to wish all of you the best of luck and I hope you will be able to just ENJOY being on stage. I would also like to extend a warm welcome to our barbershop guests from near and far, representing New Zealand, England, Germany, Spain, Sweden and The Netherlands. Thank you very much for being here with us, representing your respective barbershop organizations and/or performing in the shows, singing as mikewarmers and mikecoolers and bringing the best of barbershop to us. We are so happy to have you with us this weekend. I hope all of you, competitors and visitors, will have a fabulous time with us. From the bottom of my heart I would like to thank the convention team and everyone else who have done an amazing job to organize this joint convention. ‘Reach out and Touch’ is the theme and I hope you will do just that. Say hello to old friends and make lots of new ones. Sing with all your heart and let the music and joy fill your hearts. ‘This is the moment’ Dit is het moment waarover je twee jaar geleden zei: ‘Volgende keer …‘ Nou, laat maar horen, laat maar zien dan. Nu is het zover, de zaal zit vol, ze wachten op je. Ze zijn benieuwd naar je, en dat is andersom vast ook zo. Je weet waar het podium is, klim drop, haal druit wat drin zit, en geef ze waar ze voor gekomen zijn. ‘MAKE YOUR WORDS MEAN SOMEVerras ze, raak ze, ontroer ze. Maar vooral, geniet van je eigen podiummoment, zoveel je kan. Hier doe je het allemaal voor, elke week weer, voor het plezier dat jij uit jouw muzikale prestatie haalt. En gelijk heb je. Dat plezier vooral is maatgevend voor het succes van deze conventie, meer dan welk cijfer van welk panel ook. THING!’
Ff in verhouding (en om na te rekenen op een rustig moment): er zitten 50 uur tussen vrijdagmiddag 13h00 en zondagmiddag 15h00. Als elk uur 60 minuten telt, dan zijn er 3000 conventieminuten dit weekend. En daarvan tellen er zo’n 6 voor een deskundig oordeel, vast niet veel meer. Dat is 1/500 deel van het hele evenement. D ea r B a r be rsh op Friends! I am so happy to welcome you to the Holland Harmony & DABS barbershop convention 2011. With 21 competing choruses, 18 competing quartets and several esteemed guests you are all in for a memorable three days of excitement. The convention team is very excited to organize this convention, which is the 15th convention for Holland Harmony and the 13th for DABS. We are so lucky to have a team with an outstanding experience in organizing earlier conventions and they will be assisted by tens of enthusiastic volunteers. We could not do without them so I thank them already now from the bottom of my heart! I especially would like to thank our sponsors: Leerdam Druk for printing this fine programme booklet and Ferry Quik for printing our logo’s on banners and the advertisement boards. I am sure that you all will give so much enjoyment to others with your singing, and the more we do and the better we sing, the greater will be the impact on touching our hearts. INFORMATION AND HOUSE RULES: Convention passes must be worn at all times. No pass = no entry. Please hold your applause etc. until the last chord has been sung. Please switch off mobile phones and beeping alarms on digital watches. Entering and leaving during the contests is only allowed when the doors are open. Entry to the shows will only be allowed before the show starts, with the only exception that performers during the same show will be allowed into the hall with a ticket and only when the M.C. is on stage. Recording and photography are strictly prohibited during all shows and contests. Please remember this is a non-smoking event and smoking is strictly prohibited in the whole building, including the hotel rooms. If First Aid is required call Adrie Paauwe at +31 6 22 54 63 37 or ask any member of the convention team (red shirts). Holland Harmony and the convention center are not liable for damage to or losses of property nor are they responsible for any injuries that might occur during the Convention. AMERSHAM A CAPPELLA How thrilling to be invited to sing at Holland Harmony again - we made such wonderful friends the last time we were with you in 2009. Amersham A Cappella has been a chorus since 1982 when we were known as Chiltern Harmony. The chorus initially started as a group of ladies whose husbands sang in a male chorus and wished to do the same. We have come such a long way since then, and are now Gold chorus champions for LABBS in the UK. We hope you will enjoy our performances which are set to ‘reach out and touch’ all of your senses.
BELLADONNA – Vier Frauen a cappella We like to enchant our audience with charming and powerful performances. Since 2005 we have become known for our special musical repertoire and it is our greatest fun to offer individually shaped packages. We are very lucky to have a lead singer with a special talent to write inspiring German lyrics on women's issues. These songs are very popular and appreciated by our German audience. And we also have to offer something for our neighbours and friends in Holland: how about a Dutch speaking baritone!?! When LADIES FIRST was founded in 1991, little did we know that our name would also be a testimony of our success. Since the first biyearly German Barbershop Competition in 1993 Ladies First has taken first place eight times. We were the first German chorus to qualify and be invited to the Sweet Adelines International Barbershop Competition in Atlanta in 1999. In 2002 we won the German Choral Competition in the category ‘Jazz, Vocal, etc.’ And we are thrilled to sing at this Dutch National Barbershop Convention and to represent BinG! as the 2010 chorus champions! We proudly present our latest, brand-new project: Hands Up - Country A Cappella! Excitement brought to you straight from our saddles onto the sparkling stage in Veldhoven: Here we come! Yeehahh! Q-TONES was formed in 2007, when finding lead Simon Rylander on Youtube singing his well-known multitracks under the name FineyLeee. Q-tones are besides Simon, tenor Henrik Rosenberg, bass Kenneth Nilsson and baritone Johannes Bergman. In 2009 they released the highly acclaimed debut album Look At Us Now, which also was awarded as the 2nd best barbershop album in 2009 by the international a cappella organization CARA (Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards). If you don’t have the album yet, do not miss this opportunity to get it now, since its almost out of stock! This is Q-tones farewell tour, which will also take them to Norway later in April, the SNOBS Convention in (Falun) Sweden in May and hopefully to end in Kansas City in July. Many memories have been made through the years; the European Convention in Holland 2009, where the quartet placed 5th, was one of many highlights. ‘We love the Dutch Conventions and its open and fun atmosphere! So, dear audience, thanks for having us, let’s hope we’ll be back in some form, sooner rather than later!’

THE MUSICAL ISLAND BOYS 4th Place Bronze Medallist BHS International 2010 NZABS Quartet Champions 2004 / 2007 / 2010 BHS International Collegiate Champions 2006
The Musical Island Boys are from four small islands in the South Pacific, namely New Zealand (Aotearoa), Samoa, Niue and the Cook Islands. Based in Wellington, New Zealand the quartet is excited to be invited to attend the Holland Harmony Convention in 2011. The Musical Island Boys have been privileged to travel extensively around the world, sharing their love of barbershop music with audiences that span all walks of life thus demonstrating the transient nature of this art form. The Musical Island Boys' attendance at Holland Harmony marks the quartet's first ensemble trip to the European continent, and will be a wonderful opportunity to explore and discover the rich history and culture of the Netherlands and beyond. The quartet is most looking forward to reuniting with old friends and the prospect of making new ones along the way. We hope to share stories of our unique cultural backgrounds in the hope of learning more about life and society in what we understand to the somewhat 'liberal' community of the Netherlands, so to speak. We are also looking forward to hearing and sharing some wonderful, ringing harmony.

Het nieuws dat ik zou stoppen met de Shop, is nog steeds actueel. Ik zoek een assistente die ik graag wil inwerken en die dan in 2013 de Shop over kan nemen. Ik vind het nog steeds erg leuk, want ik kom altijd in een omgeving die gezellig is en waar veel gezongen wordt. Ook dit jaar zal ons winkeltje weer vol liggen met pitch pipes, speldjes, sieraden en muzikale cadeautjes. Gerrie en ik hopen jullie tijdens de conventie weer allemaal te ontmoeten. Daarom is Holland Harmony op zoek naar jou. Want het koor van vrijwilligers dreigt nu echt te klein te worden en niet alle partijen zijn meer (goed) vertegenwoordigd. En jij hebt je eigen, unieke noot waarmee je kunt bijdragen aan onze harmony. Holland Harmony! Een paar maten meezingen of het hele koor dirigeren: het kan allemaal. En je weet het: als het koor maar groot genoeg is, hoef je niet zo hard te zingen! -

Wil je leuke dingen doen, dan kun je niet alleen achterover hangen en consumeren. Dan moet je ook gewoon verantwoording nemen en meewerken Grégor Hustin, DBS; Wat ik er uit haal is een klein stukje erkenning, en heel veel energie. En met muziek ben ik met hele andere dingen bezig dan mijn dagelijkse werkzaamheden Gerard van Laar, Special Four; Ik zet me in voor het koor omdat het zingen me lief is en ik het voor mezelf en de andere koorleden zo leuk mogelijk wil maken. Ik krijg er een intensere beleving van mijn hobby voor terug en dat is waar ik het voor doe Ben Schut, DBM. DABS zonder vrijwilligers?! Realiseren de leden van de leden zich wel wat ik me realiseer Gommert Burger, GGG en medeoprichter DABS.

Dwarsliggen op een 4-kante pagina kan helemaal niet! Als de een dwars ligt, liggen alle anderen meteen ook dwars. Wij zeggen dan liever; DABS heeft eigen klank, da’s leuk, en dat klinkt ook meteen een stuk aangenamer. EIGENWIJS mag je het ook noemen. Waarom doe je niet mee?!
