ABSTRACT “The Picture of Dorian Gray” is a story of a beautiful young man with his picture as a narcissistic man written by Oscar Wilde. The Picture of Dorian Gray is Oscar Wilde’s best and only novel, which describes Oscar’s personalities reflected on the major characters, Dorian Gray, Basil Hallward and Lord Henry Wotton. Basil Hallward is an artist, who makes the picture of Dorian Gray. This picture has made Dorian become a narcissistic man by the help of a witty nobleman named Lord Henry Wotton. The writer uses Biographical Approach to analyse the novel, focused on the personality. This story is quite complicated and attracts the readers to read deeply and understand the problem of men's personality, especially in term of narcissism and beauty adorer. The analysis finally finds that the main personality of the author, Oscar Wilde has a great influence to the three major characters. Key words: Narcissistic, Narcissism, Biographical Approach

ABSTRAK “The Picture of Dorian Gray” merupakan cerita tentang seorang pemuda tampan dengan gambaran narcissisticnya yang ditulis oleh Oscar Wilde. “The Picture of Dorian Gray” merupakan novel terbaik dan satu-satunya novel yang ditulis oleh Oscar Wilde yang berisi tentang kepribadian dari Oscar dan tercerminkan melalui karakter utamanya yaitu Dorian Gray, Basil Hallward dan Lord Henry Wotton. Basil Hallward adalah seniman yang menghasilkan hasil karya terbaiknya yaitu lukisan Dorian Gray. Lukisan tersebut telah membuat Dorian menjadi seorang yang cinta dirinya dengan bantuan dari bangsawan yang cerdik bernama Lord Henry Wotton. Penulis menggunakan pendekatan biografi untuk menganalisa novel, bersumber pada kepribadian. Cerita ini cukup rumit dan menarik pembaca untuk membaca lebih dalam dan memahami masalah kepribadian lelaki, terutama masalah cinta diri dan pemujaan keindahan. Analisa ini akhirnya menemukan bahwa kepribadian utama dari si pengarang, Oscar Wilde memiliki pengaruh besar terhadap ketiga karakter utama. Kata Kunci: Narcisisme, Narcistik, Pendekatan Biografi
