2012-ben két, nagyjából állandónak tekinthető állománya volt az országban, a Bükkben két-három példány, illetve az Aggeteleki Karszt területén egy család. A többi jelenlét csak időleges, a szlovákiai törzsállományból, főleg a téli időszakban átkóborló példányok. 2005 óta folyik az «After LIFE» monitorozó program, amelynek keretében a a Duna-Ipoly -, a Bükki- és az Aggteleki Nemzeti Park Igazgatóság területén különböző módszerekkel (nyomkövetés, hullaték gyűjtés, összehasonlító genetikai vizsgálatok és fotó- illetve kameracsapdás állománykövetés, vizsgálatok) vizsgálják a farkasok megtelepedését, viselkedését. A nagytestű ragadozók (farkas, hiúz) élőhelyének felmérése és élettani vizsgálatuk alapján közös jegyzék megfogalmazása (HUSK/1101/221/0036) Vezető partner: Aggteleki Nemzeti Park Igazgatóság Külföldi partner: Vychodoslovenské múzeum v Kosiciah A projekt megvalósításának kezdete: 2012.08.01. A projekt megvalósításának vége: 2014.07.31.
