PENGEMBANGAN METODE UNTUK MEMINIMALISASI KESALAHAN PENGUKURAN FRF DENGAN EKSITASI IMPAK Oleh

sinyal eksitasi maupun sinyal respon getaran. Semakin besar nilai rasio redaman maka semakin berkurang kesalahan tinggi puncak.

ABSTRACT
DEVELOPMENT OF ERROR MINIMIZATION METHOD IN FRF MEASUREMENT USING IMPACT TESTING By
Noval Lilansa NIM : 33106302 Impact vibration testing is widely used to obtain FRF (Frequency Response Function) of a vibration system, mainly a light structure. The FRF obtained could be used to predict dynamic characteristics as well as exciting force on the system. The accuracy of these prediction results is mostly determined by the FRF error level. Nowadays, a digital frequency analyzer is often used to obtain the FRF. In the FRF measurement it is necessary to choose analyzer parameters. Two of them are most important, those are the frequency span and the number of spectral lines. If the values of these parameters are not selected cautiously, they could produce significant amount of error in the FRF results, which is caused either by a low frequency resolution in the FRF and lack in a record time of vibration response signal, especially in a light damping system. The low frequency resolution raises the spectral leakage, while the lack of the record time results in the response signal truncation. To suppres the truncation, a common way is to apply the exponential window function on the acquired response signal, which forces it to decay completely within the record time. Nevertheless, the use of this window function must be considered carefully since it could increase the error in the FRF generated by the analyzer. This research elicidates systematically the relationship between FRF error, analyzer measurement parameters and parameters of the system under test. Moreover, in the research a method is developed to minimize the FRF in the FRF measurement using impact excitation, which is intended to apply in the digital frequency analyzer. To develop the FRF error minimizing method, it is formerly to derive mathematical equations of the error, using continuous time as well as discrete time signal analysis. The results of both analyses show respectively basic description of and detailed FRF error behaviour. In the derivation following assumptions are used. The system under investigation is SDOF vibration system with LTI character and it can be modelled as a lumped parameter system. The system is excited by a half sine impact force. Both excitation and response signal are not contaminated by signal noise. Furthermore, anti aliasing filters and the ADC used in the instrument are respectively assumed to have ideal characteristic and no quantizing error.

Validity of mathematical equations derivation is then tested by both numerical and simulated experimental validation. The numerical validation is required to show an indication of derived equations validity, while the experimental one is used to indicate that the behaviour as well as FRF error level predicted by the equations are surely generated in the analyzer. In the latter validation, both the impact force excitation and response signal are substituted by artificial signals, in order to suppress errors due to inaccuracy in production of mass, spring and viscous damper. The validation results exhibit an agreement with phenomena and error level occurring in the digital frequency analyzer. Afterwards, this research is continued to development of procedure for FRF measurement with high accuracy. This procedure is able to guarantee that the FRF peak level error will not exceed a value excepted by user of the analyzer. The results of this research show that in the FRF measurement, both with applying and not applying the exponential window function, the FRF errors produced by the instrument contain two kind of errors, those are the natural frequency error, and FRF peak level error. The latter error is much more dominating than the former. Both errors decrease, as the ratio between the system natural frequency and the analyzer frequency resolution increases. Moreover, the peak level error fluctuates between maximum and minimum values while the natural frequency error swings from negative to positive values. The negative values mean that the natural frequencies obtained from the instrument are less than the theoretical frequencies, while the positive means that the obtained natural frequencies are greater than the theoretical frequencies. Although damping ratio variation affects highly the FRF peak level error, but the small damping ratio almost does not affect the natural frequency error. The larger the damping ratio value is, the smaller is FRF peak level error. In this research it is also revealed that applying the exponential window function on the noise free signal response will increase the FRF peak error. The faster the window function decays, the larger is the peak error. Based on the theoretical investigation developed in this research, which has been approved by numerical as well as simulated experimental validation, this research proposes a method to minimize the FRF error in vibration testing with impact excitation, which had been tested in the real and the artificial system. The testing results uncover that the proposed method affords to decrease the FRF error. Thus, in addition to understanding of the relationship between FRF errors, analyzer measurement parameters and parameters of system under test, this research has contributed in proposing iterative procedure to minimize errors in FRF measurement with impact excitation. With these contributions it would be expected that FRF with high accuracy resulted in the measurement could be obtained, so that dynamic characteristics of the system, its response and exciting force could be predicted with high accuracy.
