Surat Lintang sangat singkat: ‘Ibunda Guru, ayahku telah meninggal. Nanti aku akan ke sekolah untuk mengucapkan salam perpisahan terakhirku pada Ibu dan teman-teman. Salamku, Lintang.’

Kami semua sadar, Lintang tidak punya peluang untuk meneruskan sekolahnya. Seorang anak laki-laki tertua dari keluarga pesisir miskin yang tidak memiliki ibu dan kini ditinggal ayah haruslah menanggung nafkah keluarganya, ditanggung sepenuhnya oleh anak sekecil itu. Kami harus melepas seorang jenius didikan alam. Murid pertama Bu Mus. Orang yang ingin sekolah ini tetap ada, orang yang selalu berusaha datang lebih pagi, sekarang harus jadi yang pergi lebih dulu meninggalkan sekolah ini.
