AN ANALYSIS OF PREPOSITIONAL PHRASE IN JANE AUSTEN’S NOVEL “PRIDE AND PREJUDICE”

ABSTRAK Skripsi ini berjudul “An Analysis of Prepositional Phrase in Jane Austen’s Novel “Pride and Prejudice” yang mengetengahkan pembahasan dan penganalisaan tentang frasa kata depan yang terdapat pada sebuah novel berjudul“Pride and Prejudice” karya Jane Austen. Tujuan dari skripsi ini adalah untuk mengamati penggunaan frasa kata depan yang dipakai pada kalimat-kalimat yang terdapat dalam novel “Pride and Prejudice”. Kemudian menganalisis jenis informasi apa saja yang banyak dipakai dalam kalimat-kalimat yang ada pada novel tersebut. Skripsi ini memakai metode deskriptif untuk memaparkan dengan jelas langkah-langkah apa saja yang dilakukan untuk mengambil data yang akurat. Data ini diperoleh dengan menggunakan metode “Purposive Sampling” yang dikemukan oleh Arikunto, dimana jumlah data yang dijadikan sebagai sampel analisis adalah setengah dari jumlah data keseluruhannya.. Dari hasil analisis, ditemukan bahwa ada 240 prepositional phrase yang digunakan pada kalimat-kalimat yand terdapat di dalam novel tersebut. Dengan menerapkan metode Purposive Sampling maka diperoleh sebanyak 120 frasa kata depan yang akan dijadikan sebagai sampel penelitian dan 60 frasa kata depan yang akan dinalisis dalam skripsi ini Berdasarkan informasi yang disampaikan ada enam jenis informasi tentang penggunaan frasa kata depan yang terdapat dalam kalimat – kalimat pada novel tersebut yaitu : Place, Direction, Time, Identification, Purpose/Reason, dan Possession. Berdasarkan data analisa, terdapat 6 jenis informasi mengenai penggunaan kata depan dimana yang paling dominan adalah frasa kata depan yang termasuk jenis tipe Physical Relationship yang fungsinya sebagai kata keterangan yang menerangkan keterangan tempat ( sebanyak 17 frasa ).
