In Memoriam Afgelopen vrijdag 24 mei is Hans van Leeuwen overleden. Hans was geen actief cricket lid bij Ajax, maar wel bij Groen Geel en SGS. Bij Ajax was hij donateur en vast publiek, zeker bij de wedstrijden van dochter Eugenie en zoon Alex in de tijd dat hij beter ter been was. Wij wensen zijn vrouw Charry, kinderen Eugenie en Alex en overige familie en vrienden veel sterkte toe. De rouwkaart wordt als aparte bijlage meegestuurd met dit @CN.
Ajax U10 – Hermes DVS U10 God, wat was het koud en vochtig. De U10 liet zich er niet door beïnvloeden. Met redelijk batten (veel minder uitjes tegen dan vorige week), goed bowlen en briljant fielden werd het grootschalig opgekomen publiek verwend. De spirit was fantastisch. Heel veel run outs! Met focus in het veld en aan bat, en enorm veel plezier wisten jullie Hermes eronder te houden. Ga zo door!
120 jaar jong Ajax SC 1 - VRA 2 – invalid result Our first team does very well for the first season in the 1st League (Eerste Klasse=EK). New trainer, lots of youth playing and winning several matches. After 4 matches Ajax is on 6 points (3 wins)! What happened to the 5th match against VRA? It says invalid??? VRA batted first and set a big score of 289 runs in 50 overs. Ajax did a good job, making 221 runs. VRA scored so many runs thanks to some good batsmen, who could also bowl. What they did not do was read the rules. It says that when you play in TK/HK/EK on Saturday you are not allowed to play in a lower ranked team on Sunday (because TK/HK/EK are mainly planned on Saturdays in the beginning of the season to make it possible for the youth leagues to play on Sunday and with this rule to prevent unfair play by playing stronger players in lower teams in a double weekend). The KNCB noticed that 2 (actually it were 3) VRA players who played against Ajax also played in VRA 1 on Saturday and therefore declared the match Ajax 1 – VRA 2 as “invalid”. According to the KNCB the match will be rescheduled and VRA will be fined for all 3 players. If so: we will let you know. A shame, that VRA Victor Lubbers’ maiden century was made in this match.

http://ajaxcricket.wordpress.com Ugly win Ajax Ladies against HilKamp Last weekend the Ajax Ladies played the combination team from Hilversum and Kampong, Hilkamp in Utrecht. What should have been an easy match soon turned into a nail-biter. The match got off to a good start when Pietje was presented with the “best fielder of the year award” from the KNCB for her performance in the field last season. After captain Evelien won the toss, Ajax elected to field, and with success. Evelien and Amber opened the bowling, and after an initially shaky start from Evelien, she bowled very well and ended up with 3 for 15 in 7, out of which two wickets on successive balls. She also took the first wicket of the day which was dedicated to Eugenie, who unfortunately could not make it to the match. Amber bowled a lovely line and length with 2-12 in 6, and Michelle took 1-12 in 5. There were two new additions to the team in the form of coach Brian’s daughters, who showed that playing cricket runs in the family. Jarni’s very accurate medium pace resulted in 2 for 16 in 8 including four (!) maidens, while younger sister Zahli showed that she can hold her own in the field. With these great bowling figures HilKamp was dismissed for 65 after 29 overs. After the lunch, Ajax took the field to bat. However, the batting side did not perform to their full potential. Pietje and Christine initially started a good partnership, until this was broken in the 5th over when Pietje was caught in the slips (0). Christine was dismissed a few overs later (9) and after that wickets kept on collapsing around captain Evelien. Suddenly it was very uncertain if Ajax would make the low total of 66 they needed to win the match. Evelien however, refused to be defeated and continued to defend her wicket while running singles. She was eventually supported @CN 2013-088
120 jaar jong by Margreet and together they collected the runs that were needed for a victory. Evelien scored 19*, Margreet 4*, and in the 26th over Ajax finally passed the total set by HilKamp in their batting innings. Captain Evelien was declared woman of the match for her great bowling and batting performance today, but also for showing great mental resilience and determination after facing a setback.

Tourists beat Mellis in the Dark De Ajax-toeristen van het Sniebal tour wisten op de eerste tourdag de omstandigheden optimaal te gebruiken om Mellis CC te verrassen. Nadat de touringparty na nog geen 2 uur op Engelse grond door droevige omstandigheden 2 leden naar huis zag terugkeren werd alles op alles gezet om een goed resultaat te behalen. Tourbaby Quincy werd aan de ground-staff van Mellis toegevoegd om het veld optimaal voor te bereiden voor de battings-innings in nog enigszins lichte omstandigheden. JanKees met 31* uit 24 ballen (6x4) en Jalder 16* uit 21 ballen brachten de toeristen naar 112-9 in 20 overs. In de 2e innings brachten de toeristen door een tactisch snufje te tegenstander van slag, de slowbowlers Jalder 3-14 in 3 en Arnie 2-10 in 3 waren zuinig en vreselijk effectief. Zodoende kwamen de gastheren in de problemen waar ze nooit meer uitkomen toen de duisternis aan het invallen was, het water terug kwam op het veld door het tactisch prikken van Quincy een paar uur eerder en er ook vangen werden vast gehouden. Mellis 105-8 en de toeristen winnen! De wedstrijd op zaterdag ging nipt verloren, toeristen 145-9 (Toca 54 (89b, 5x4, 1x6), Frank 30 (71b), Martijn 16 (14b, 2x4), Quincy 11 (29b 14)) verliezen van Wortham 147-5 (Arnie 3-62 in 9, Quincy 2-22 in 3, Snied 0-7 in 3). De 3e wedstrijd werd een enigszins eenzijdig partijtje tegenstander Kesgrave wist in 22 overs het totaal te overtreffen: toeristen 146-8 (Toca 40 (51b, 3x4, 1x5), Evert 32 (58b 3x4), Frank 11* (18b), Kerdy 9 (45b 1x4)) verliezen van Kesgrave 148-5 (Martijn 2-26 in 4, Toa 1-27 in 5, Jalder 1-29 in 3).

Zuid-Afrika in mei naar Nederland Nederland tegen Zuid-Afrika – 31 mei 2013 De Zuid-Afrikaanse ploeg verblijft in Nederland als voorbereiding op de ICC Champions Trophy in Engeland en Wales in juni. De KNCB en Cricket South Africa (CSA) hebben voor de tour in Nederland een programma van trainingen en activiteiten voor teambuilding opgesteld. The current priority is to install the clubhouse at its new location and renovate it to provide a focal point for our club activities. An artist impression of the bar is shown below.

Contacting Past and Present Members for additional contributions. Contacting local businesses for financial contributions in return for placement of logos on the website with a link to their website. The minimum for this will be €100. Providing an opportunity to local and other businesses to place logos on team shirts for cost from €175 to €400 depending on the position of the logo. Sponsoring of balls at matches. Individuals and members can sponsor the ball for each match at a cost of €20.
The objective is to raise a minimum of €5,000 with the above initiatives within the next three months. Therefore, the committee hopes all members will assist in this exercise by identifying and approaching potential sponsors to contribute.
