Sejarah Internet • 1965 mulai dikenalkan Hypertext sebuah teks yang berisi referensi otomatis ke dokumen lainnya (hyperlink) • 1982 istilah internet mulai digunakan 1000 host yang saling terkoneksi • 1986 diperkenalkan DNS (Domain Name System) sistem pemberian nama dan alamat di internet
Alamat dalam Internet • Pemberian alamat internet menggunakan format IP address (Internet Protocol) • Menggunakan 32 bit bilangan biner (1 dan 0) yang terdiri dari 4 kelompok (setiap kelompok terdiri dari 8 bit atau oktet) dan setiap kelompok dipisahkan oleh tanda titik (.) • Untuk memudahkan pembacaan, alamat dilakukan dalam angka desimal, sebagai contoh : 128.3.1.133 atau 10000000.00000011.00000001.10000101 • Format alamat terdiri dari dua bagian yaitu netid dan hostid. Netid menyatakan alamat jaringan dan hostid menyatakan alamat lokal (host/router). • Contoh sederhana : Alamat Jalan Puspa III no. 5 III merupakan alamat jaringan dan 5 merupakan alamat host (nomor rumah)
Tujuan pengalamatan dalam Internet • Memudahkan sistem pengelolaan dan pengaturan alamatalamat • Memanfaatkan jumlah alamat yang ada secara optimum (tidak akan ada yang terlewat) • Memudahkan pengorganisasian jaringan di seluruh dunia dengan membedakan jaringan tersebut ke dalam kategori besar, menengah dan kecil • Membedakan antara alamat jaringan dan alamat host
Uniform Resources Locator (URL) • Manusia lebih mudah ‘menghafal’ kata dibandingankan dengan angka • URL digunakan sebagai alamat website, email, ftp server dan service lainnya yang terhubung ke dalam internet • Ketika kita mengetikan URL maka DNS (Domain Name Server) akan menterjemahkan URL menjadi IP address • DNS merupakan suatu database menyimpan semua alamatalamat URL beserta IP addressnya • Contoh URL : http://phys.unpad.ac.id/jurusan/staff/dharmawan

Beberapa komponen dalam Internet • www (World Wide Web) adalah sebuah sistem dokumen yang berisi hyperteks yang diakses lewat internet. Dengan menggunakan web browser kita dapat melihat halaman web yang berisi teks, video, video dan multimedia lainnya • e-mail adalah surat elektronik dalam internet, penulisannya mengikuti standar username@hostname .
