Developing English Teaching Material for Accounting Students Based on Inquiry-Based Language Learning (A Research and Development at the Tenth Grade Class of SMK N 1 Randudongkal). First Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Endang Fauziati, M.Hum. Second Supervisor: Dr. Suparno, M.Pd. A Thesis: English Education Departement, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Graduate Program, Sebelas Maret University Surakarta. This study aims at (1) investigating the quality of “Buku Bahasa Inggris Untuk SMA/K” textbook to teach English for the tenth grade students of accounting skill program at SMK N 1 Randudongkal, and (2) developing English supplementary textbook for the tenth grade students of accounting skill program at SMK N 1 Randudongkal. It is a Research and Development study. There are two steps in conducting this study. The first is exploration, which consists of library research, book analysis, and need analysis. The second is model development which consists of design the draft prototype, experts judgment, try out, and final product . The result of book analysis reveals that “Buku Bahasa Inggris Untuk SMA/K” has some weaknesses for teaching English for accounting students. The materials in the existing textbook are still general. The teacher should find related materials from other resources. Then, the researcher analyzed the needs of students through conducting interview and delivering questionnaire to accounting students. The result showed that the students need English materials specifically for accounting. Based on the result of exploration stage, the researcher decided to design English supplementary textbook for accounting students based on inquirybased language learning (IBLL). The reasons the researcher chose IBLL is that IBLL provides teaching steps which emphasize students as center of learning. Furthermore, it could engage students in teaching process and stimulates students to be more critical and creative in thinking. In development stage, the researcher designed draft prototype based on the result of exploration stage. Then, it is evaluated by two experts in TEFL. The researcher revised the draft prototype based on the suggestion from the experts. After it was revised, it was tried out to accounting students in order to get the feasibility of the draft prototype. At the end of the try out, the researcher conducted FGD and delivered questionnaire to know the students’ responses toward the draft prototype. The result of FGD and questionnaire were used to revise the draft prototype into the final product. It is hoped that the English supplementary textbook for accounting can help the teacher in teaching English for accounting students. The researcher also hopes that the students’ motivation and the situation of the classroom improve. S891408013. “Pengembangan Materi Tambahan Untuk Siswa Akuntasi Berbasis Inqury-Based Language Learning (Penelitian Riset dan Pengembangan di kelas X SMK N 1 Randudongkal). Pembimbing Pertama: Prof. Dr. Endang Fauziati, M.Hum. Pembimbing Kedua: Dr. Suparno, M.Pd. Tesis: Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris, Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan, Program Pascasarjana, Universitas Sebelas Maret Surakarta. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah (1) menginvestigasi kualitas buku “Buku Bahasa Inggris Untuk SMA/K” untuk mengajar mata pelajaran bahasa Inggris di kelas X jurusan akuntansi SMK N 1 Randudongkal, dan (2) mendeskripsikan pengembangan materi tambahan untuk siswa kelas X akuntansi yang berbasis inquiry-based language learning di SMK N 1 Randudongkal. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian Riset dan Pengembangan. Ada dua tahapan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Tahap pertama adalah eksplorasi yang terdiri dari studi pustaka, analisis buku, dan analisis kebutuhan Sedangkan tahap kedua adalah pengembangan produk yang terdiri dari pembuatan produk prototype, tahap validasi ahli, try out, dan penyempurnaan produk akhir. Hasil dari buku analisis menunjukan bahwa “Buku Bahasa Inggris Untuk SMA/K” memiliki beberapa kekurangan untuk mengajar siswa akuntansi. Materi yang terdapat di buku “Buku Bahasa Inggris Untuk SMA/K” masih terlalu umum untuk siswa akuntansi. Guru pengampu harus mencari materi yang sesuai dengan siswa akuntansi dari berbagai macam sumber yang lain. Kemudian, peneliti melakukan analisa kebutuhan terhadap siswa akuntansi melalui wawancara dan pendistribusian kuisioner. Hasil dari analisis kebutuhan menunjukan bahwa siswa akuntansi membutuhkan mataeri bahasa Inggris yang spesifik untuk akuntansi. Dari hasil tahap eksplorasi, peneliti memutuskan untuk mendesign buku bahasa Inggris pendukung untuk akuntansi berbasis inquiy-based language learning (IBLL). IBLL dipilih karena IBLL terdiri dari langkah-langkah pembelajaran yang memusatkan siswa sebagai pusat pembelajaran. Ditambah lagi, IBLL mengajak siswa untuk terlibat secara aktif di dalam pembelajaran dan menstimulasi siswa untuk lebih kritis dan kreatif dalam berfikir. Pada tahap pengembangan, peneliti mendesin draft prototype berdasarkan hasil dari tahap eksplorasi. Kemudian, draft prototipe dievaluasi oleh penguji ahli dibidang TEFL. Peneliti kemudian merevisi draft prototipe dari hasil validasi oleh penguji ahli. Dan untuk mendapatkan hasil yang lebih baik, peneliti menguji coba draft prototipe kepada siswa kelas X jurusan akuntansi di SMK N 1 Randudongkal.Untuk mengetahui respon siswa dan mengevaluasi penggunaan buku, FGD dan pendistribusian kuisioner dilaksanakan. Dari hasil tersebut, peneliti melakukan revisi untuk menyempurnakan produk akhir. Diharapkan bahwa buku bahasa Inggris untuk akuntansi ini dapat membantu guru dalam mengajar bahasa Inggris di kelas akuntansi. Finally, it is hoped that this study can be useful for the English teaching and learning process. Finally “English for Accounting” textbook can give contribution towards the teaching and learning English as a foreign language in Indonesia, especially for accounting skill program.
