Key words: English conversation club, Eleventh grade students, Descriptive Qualitative English is the language used for global range. Mastering English will be useless without the mastery of speaking. Some schools, including MA NU Banat Kudus, have established a conversation club for all of the students in the eleventh grade as a media for the students to improve their speaking ability in English. This research is conducted to know the implementation of English Conversation Club at MA NU Banat Kudus. The objectives of the research are: 1) To describe the students and teachers’ classroom English used in the English Conversation Club at MA NU BANAT KUDUS in academic year 2013/2014. 2) To describe the students’ opinion when working in a group in English Conversation Club at MA NU BANAT KUDUS in academic year 2013/2014. This research applies descriptive qualitative research, aimed at describing the classroom English used by the teacher and student, and describing students’ opinion toward working in a group in the implementation of English conversation Club in academic year 2013/2014. Subjects of the research were 20 students. The data for the research are collected through observation, and questionnaire. An observation conducted for three meetings, it’s to describe classroom English used by the teacher and students. The observation sheet is arranged based on the Glyns theory. And the questionnaire was filled out by these subjects to describe their opinion toward working in a group in conversation club. The results of the research showed that the teacher uses more classroom English in each meeting rather than the students. However, the teacher tends to use the same classroom English in each meeting. For the first data, it is found that the use of classroom English in beginning the lesson have shown the majority of classroom English (55 %) are used by the teacher and the students just ( 27,77 %). Then in running the lesson it have shown the majority of classroom English (53,33 %) are used by the teacher and the students just (13,33%). In ending the lesson, it is found that the use of classroom English have shown the majority of classroom English (27,77 %) are used by the teacher and the students just (11,11 %). The second data is about students’ opinion toward working in a group in the implementation of English Conversation Club. Overall, when working in a group most of students feel happy although there are some obstacles that they feel in a group. The data showed that working in a group or group work has positive impacts towards the students’ learning.

From this research, it can be concluded that the teacher use classroom English more than the students do. Although, the teacher still used a little varieties of Classroom English in the implementation of English Conversation Club. Then, a group work activity in English Conversation Club has given positive impact for the students. In suggestions, for the teachers, it is better if they use more varieties of classroom English then applies it in the class. It can increase the students’ English knowledge. In group work, it is better if a teacher not only as an instructor but also as the facilitator for students. For eleventh grade students, following a club like English Conversation Club it will increase their English knowledge. For the next researcher, it can be reference for the next research, which related to the topic.

Menguasai Bahasa Inggris akan sia-sia tanpa adanya penguasaan berbicara. Beberapa sekolah, termasuk MA NU Banat Kudus, telah mendirikan klub bahasa Inggris sebagai salah satu media bagi siswa untuk mengembangkan kemampuan berbicara mereka dalam Bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui pelaksanaan klub bahasa Inggris pada MA NU Banat Kudus. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah : 1) Untuk mendeskripsikan bahasa Inggris kelas yang digunakan oleh siswa dan guru dalam Klub Percakapan bahasa Inggris di MA NU Banat Kudus pada tahun ajaran 2013/2014. 2) Untuk mendiskripsikan pendapat siswa terhadap kerja kelompok dalam Klub Percakapan bahasa Inggris di MA NU Banat Kudus pada tahun ajaran 2013/2014. Penelitian ini menggunakan descriptive kualitatif yang bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan bahasa Inggris kelas yang digunakan oleh siswa dan guru, dan mendeskripsikan pendapat siswa ketika bekerja dalam sebuah kelompok dalam klub bahasa Inggris di MA NU Banat Kudus pada tahun ajaran 2013/2014. Subjek pada penelitian ini adalah 20 siswa. Data untuk penelitian ini dikumpulkan melalui observasi dan kuesioner. Observasi dilakukan dalam tiga kali pertemuan, ini untuk mendeskripsikan bahasa Inggris kelas yang digunakan oleh siswa dan guru. Lembar observasi disusun berdasarkan teori dari Glyn. Dan kuesioner telah dilengkapi oleh seluruh subjek-subjek untuk mendiskripsikan pendapat mereka mengenai bekerja dalam kelompok (kerja kelompok) dalam English Conversation Club. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa guru lebih banyak menggunakan bahasa Inggris kelas daripada para siswa. Tetapi, guru cenderung menggunakan bahasa Inggris kelas yang sama di setiap pertemuan. Untuk data yang pertama, ini ditemukan bahwa dalam memulai pelajaran mayoritas bahasa Inggris kelas (55%) digunakan oleh guru dan siswa hanya (27,77%). Kemudian dalam menjalankan pelajaran menunjukkan mayoritas bahasa Inggris kelas (53,33%) digunakan oleh guru dan siswa hanya (13,33%). Dalam mengakhiri pelajaran, ini ditemukan bahwa mayoritas bahasa Inggris kelas (27,77%) digunakan oleh guru dan siswa hanya (11,11%). Data kedua mengenai pendapat siswa terhadap kerja dalam kelompok (kerja kelompok) dalam pelaksanaan Klub Percakapan Bahasa Inggris. Secara keseluruhan, ketika bekerja dalam kelompok banyak siswa merasa senang

meskipun terdapat beberapa kendala yang mereka rasakan dalam sebuah kelompok. Data menunjukkan bahwa bekerja dalam kelompok atau kerja kelompok mempunyai pengaruh yang positif terhadap pembelajaran siswa. Dari penelitian ini, dapat disimpulkan bahwa guru menggunakan bahasa Inggris kelas lebih banyak daripada siswa. Meskipun demikian, guru masih menggunakan sedikit variasi bahasa Inggris kelas dalam pelaksanaan klub bahasa Inggris. Kemudian, aktivitas kerja kelompok dalam klub bahasa Inggris telah memberikan pengaruh positif pada siswa. Pada saran, untuk para guru, alangkah baiknya jika mereka dapat menggunakan bahasa Inggris kelas lebih bervariasi kemudian menggaplikasikannya dalam kelas. Hal ini dapat menambah pengetahuan bahasa Inggris siswa. Dalam kerja kelompok, lebih baik jika seorang guru tidak hanya menjadi pelatih tetapi juga menjadi seorang fasilitator bagi siswa. Untuk siswa kelas XI, mengikuti sebuah klub seperti klub bahasa Inggris akan menambah pengetahuan bahasa Inggris mereka. Untuk para peneliti selanjutnya, ini dapat menjadi referansi untuk penelitian selanjutnya, yang berkaitan dengan topik.
