Karena saya gak menemukan cara untuk bercerita tentang buku ini tanpa memberi spoiler. Dan berhubung buku ini emang ceritanya dikit, maka yah...bercerita sedikit tentang buku ini pun sudah jadi spoiler. Saya ini penggemar berat buku anak, jauh sebelum saya suka genre lain. Buku anak yang saya maksud di sini tuh bukan yang karangan Enid Blyton ato Astrid Lindgren ato Roald Dahl (walau pun saya juga suka karya mereka sih). Tapi lebih ke buku anak yang buat anak TK - kelas 1 SD. Jadi emang tipe novel grafis. Dan yang paling saya suka adalah buku anak yang ditulis dengan unik dan witty. Dari semua penulis buku semacam itu, Shel Silverstein adalah favorit saya (yaaa selain Dr. Seuss sih). Kata-katanya indah, puitis tapi gampang dicerna, artworknya simpel dan gak ngeribetin. Lalu makna dibalik ceritanya itu bagus-bagus. Nah salah satu karya dia yang paling saya suka itu duologi Missing Piece ini. Buku pertama yang judulnya "The Missing Piece" menceritakan tentang sebuah lingkaran yang kehilangan satu piece dari dirinya. Kehilangan satu piece aja ternyata berpengaruh, karena dia gak bisa menggelinding dengan lancar. Maka dimulailah perjalanan sang lingkaran untuk menemukan bagian yang hilang.
Perjalanan itu gak mudah. Dia bertemu dengan piece yang kekecilan, berikutnya malah yang kebesaran. Pernah juga dia bertemu dengan piece yang pas, tapi karena gak dipegang dengan kuat eh terlepas lah piece itu. Dan si lingkaran pun terus mencari. Sambil mencari, dia menikmati petualangannya; bermain dengan lebah, becanda dengan bunga, bernyanyi, sampai ngerasain jatuh ke lubang. Hingga suatu hari, dia bertemu dengan "missing piece"nya. Awalnya si lingkaran bahagia, dia merasa hidupnya utuh. Tapi belakangan dia sadar, karena bisa menggelinding dengan lebih cepat, dia gak punya waktu untuk menikmati alam sekitarnya. Dia juga gak bisa bernyanyi karena mulutnya ketutupan si "missing piece" ini. (view spoiler) Ketika pertama membaca buku ini, saya sempat gak puas. Jiwa idealis saya protes : "Ih...kan dia udah dapat yang dia cari. Kok masih gak puas aja?" Apalagi kalo mau dipikirkan, si lingkaran itu bisa dianalogikan dalam hidup. Kita merasa hidup ini kurang lengkap, makanya kita mencari "missing piece" kita, our "significant other". Tapi ternyata, setelah ketemu, malah merasa seperti kehilangan kebebasan. Apa penulisnya mau mengajarkan bahwa lebih baik hidup sendiri tanpa orang lain? Nilai macam apa yang mau diajarkan ke anak-anak? Tapi membacanya sekarang, saya mengerti (memang sebaiknya membaca buku itu didampingi orang tua ya. Persepsi yang didapat jadi beda soalnya kalo nebak - nebak sendiri >.<) Buku ini memang bercerita tentang hubungan. Contohnya waktu lingkaran menemukan "piece" yang cocok, tapi karena gak dipegang erat, piece itu pun terlepas. Kadang kita juga gitu kan? Kita menemukan orang yang (mestinya) cocok, tapi karena gak kita jaga ya lepas gitu aja. Lalu saat lingkaran menemukan "piece" yang cocok, dia malah merasa jadi terlalu terikat, kehilangan identitas, dan terbebani. Menurut saya, Silverstein ingin memberi tahu bahwa terkadang hubungan yang kita pikir akan sempurna, tidak selalu berjalan sesuai perkiraan. Dan mungkin, kebahagiaan justru terletak dalam perjalanan kita mencari si "The One" itu. Dan endingnya? I love the ending.
