Fitur-fitur WiMAX (1/3) OFDM-based physical layer •
Skema yang menawarkan resistansi terhadap multipath dan memungkinkan WiMAX beroperasi dalam kondisi NLOS.

Dengan lebar spektrum 20 MHz, PHY data rate dapat mencapai 74 Mbps. Dengan lebar spektrum 10 MHz, skema TDD, rasio uplink-to-downlink 3:1, PHY data rate dapat mencapai 25 Mbps (uplink) dan 6.7 Mbps (downlink).
Scalable bandwidth and data rate support •
Dengan mode OFDMA, ukuran FFT dapat disesuaikan berdasarkan bandwidth kanal yang tersedia. (Misalnya : FFT 128/512/1048 untuk bandwidth kanal 1.25 MHz/5 MHz / 10 MHz).
Adaptive Modulation & Coding (AMC) •
Mendukung sejumlah skema modulasi dan FEC, yang dapat diubah secara dinamis per user per frame berdasarkan kondisi kanal.
