Magyar Bál - Hungarian Ball Hongaars Bal - Bal Hongrois
Saturday, 12th February 2011 Concert Noble, Brussels
Minister for Foreign Affairs Republic of Hungray Ladies and Gentlemen Dear Guests The ball season has come again, but this year it is a particularly special time for Hungary. As you all know, a key element of carnival traditions is to introduce young men and women of marriageable age to society. Just like those first-time ball goers, Hungary is making its début on Europe’s dance floor holding the Presidency of the Council of the European Union for the first time in history. Our first steps may falter slightly but they are getting more and more steady. Surely we have come of age and are the centre of attention as a first time ball-goer and host. The country that holds the Presidency has a difficult but rewarding job. The Presidency poses a daunting challenge but also a great opportunity.
Carnivals and balls are held to have fun and to forget about our daily problems. This is a time to take delight in things such as fine wines, champagne, perhaps pálinka and, of course, delicious meals. We Hungarians break with the traditions of our predecessors slightly by giving these elements a pivotal role during the Presidency’s term. For we are all unique, even if this is not evident in the carnival’s cavalcade. In fact, this is what makes the entertainment exciting.
H.E. Zoltán Hernyes, Ambassador of the Republic of Hungary to Belgium
H.E. István Kovács, Permanent representative of the Republic of Hungary to NATO
There are cultural differences between us, but during the Presidency’s term we will strive to bring people and cultures closer together. Our ability and desire to enjoy life’s pleasures show that in essence our debates are only dialogues that may enable us to understand each other better. Every human encounter is an opportunity to understand one another. Our shared joy and merriment can help us discover the human side of others and make us capable of overcoming prejudices born in times of hardship and low spirits. This evening, ladies and gentlemen, for all these reasons, I wish you a wonderful time together. I hope this evening will positively affect our daily hard work and increase our mutual trust during our everyday encounters and reconciliations of interest.
H.E. Péter Györkös, Permanent Representative of Let the dancing commence; let the ball begin! the Republic of Hungary to János Martonyi the European Union
Herman Van Rompuy
Message to the Brussels Hungarian Ball 2011 Upon assuming the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, not only will Hungary's political talent be highlighted, but the richness of its cultural and artistic heritage will be brought centre stage.
This sets the scene for various activities and cultural events that will be organised throughout Europe, in particular here in Brussels, over the next 6 months. We can now, at art centres and museums in Brussels, discover these ancient and modern works of art by Hungarian poets, artists and directors. Each and every one of these pieces reflects the quality and vitality of the Hungarian arts scene both today and in the past. Allow me to welcome you tonight to the Hungarian Ball, the highlight of this series of events. Tonight will give you an insight into the different facets of this beautiful country and allow you to get to know better the rich cultural heritage of Hungary. I wish you a pleasant time. Palotás - Opening dance
The Palotás or Palace Dance has its origins in the 15th century, when it was performed in front of the King by young nobles. It comprises a dignified flowing dance, the Andalgó, then a quick section based on the Verbunkos. In the 19th century it became the traditional opening dance at formal balls. The dance to Utolsó Tánc from Ferenc Erkel’s Opera Bánk Bán was choreographed by Áron Schmidt, and taught by Veronika Jezsó, Bernard Herickx and Zsuzsanna Dákai. Performers Veronika Jezsó - Endika Bengoetxea Erika Lelesz - Csaba Babák Renáta Cserjési - Michèle Paino Zsuzsanna Dákai - Bernard Herickx Charlotte May-Simera - Philippe Druart Cécile Herickx - Philippe Macors Timm Rentrop - Marie-Ange De Preter Rossella Maresca - Benoit Mandy The men’s jackets were prepared by István Tóth at Méretes Tailors. The ladies’ dresses were prepared by Főcény Antalné.
Jenő Huszka - Annabál Waltz The notes of the Annabál waltz were provided by the Zákonyi estate by Dr Anna Ács, director of the Balatonfüred City Museum.
The Annabál waltz is the last composition of Jenő Huszka, inspired by the magic of the Anna Summer Balls in Balatonfüred. It was first performed in 1962 after the traditional Parade Palotás.
Performers: Lucia Duguleana - Stefan Leitzinger Dalia Murauskaite - Kestutis Balvocius Chrysoula Baltzaki - Evangelos Fanoulis Chiara Andreola - Luca Marcolin Adela Michea - Dan Daneasa Neva Sadikoglu - Marek Waskiewicz Alison Jane Bell - Jean-Louis d'Hoop
The waltz was choreographed by Timm Rentrop.
At the request of the Brussels Hungarian Ball 2010 the music of 'Anna-ball Waltz' was orchestrated by Zsolt Pethő, a Silver Cross and Pannon Award winning composer of Hungary. He has been the music director of the Pannonia Film Studio for 34 years. His name is associated with the composition of most Hungarian cartoons (Gustav, Vízipók, Pom-Pom, etc).
The priorities of the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union inspired the idea of a unique ‘double’ fashion show. Beside the enchanting attire of the talented contemporary designer Barbara Léber, the first Hungarian Roma designer, Erika Varga will introduce her unique outfits.
Participants: Orsolya Áder, Laura Adorján, Lauren Delee, Sarolta Hamedl, Vanessa Kiss, Edit Kónya, Andrea Nám, Katerina Rihova, Stephanie Schlesser, Melinda Szekeres, Dorottya Szűcs, Laura Tamás, Zsófia Udvarhelyi
The initiative and concept of the fashion show are the work of Gabriella Sipos and Emese Savoia-Keleti.
The hair styles are thanks to Éva Malic; the make up thanks to Andrea Urban Szabó, as well as on site by Shabana Khan. The music was edited by Lajos Domaniczky.

It was founded in 1764 by Maria Theresa, but in 1848, the Regiment joined the Hungarian Freedom fight. Today in Csíkszék and in Háromszék only, over 60 Hussars reviltalise the real values of the Hussars. Their most important events are the Hussar Academy and Hussar Recruitements.

Célunk a roma közösség sokszínűségének bemutatása, a roma közösségeken belüli identitás erősítése, az ehhez kötődő kulturális termékek terjesztése, ismertté tétele a társadalomban.
